View Full Version : Is knights on a hiding to nothing
i can see it in 2 yrs time, Essendon still struggling at the bottom end of the scale and the natives getting restless and asking why was sheedy sacked.
Sheedy was sacked i beleive cause he felt he could win another flag with a ageing list and continually topped it up with has beens like allan, Zantuck, heffernan, Murphy, campo, Cole etc when he should of been rebuilding again.
i feel sorry for Knights as i would be surprised if u guys make the 8 in the next few yrs and i feel u still have abit of work to be done on ya list.
what r most Ess sup[porters feelings on this issue, i like the appointment of Knights but i hope he doesnt get treated badly if things dont go well next few yrs remembering Sheedy has really stuffed up in my opinion the last 3 yrs.

God, I'm sick of this nonsense.
Most of those players were acquired via the PSD, except for Allan (pick 60) and Cole traded for pick 23.
If you look at the players that have come via the PSD we have done quite well with those selections. Compare that to the crap we probably would have picked up in the 4th or 5th round in the national draft if we had not chosen them in the PSD and we are miles ahead.

I cant see where all this negativity with our list comes from, we have arguably the best fwd line in the comp, before Davey and Jetta get going,
our midfield ranked 4th for centre breaks, another pre season into young legs and we will improve,
all we need in our defence if for someone like Johns to stand up and take FB and halve the number of turnovers, then look out,all those so called footy experts will be saying here come the Bombers.
This game is a game of inches

We're on a long-term plan where we are building for a premiership in 2044 after 44 years of nothing. Then, in October 2004 all our bigfooty members will jump on everyone elses boards and arrogantly bag their clubs despite having never previously tasted success in their lifetime.
Sound familiar?

what are with all these trolls on our board lately?
Thanks for your concerns, champ, but it's a bit rich for your mob to win one in 44 years, then think you can tell us how to go about it

I cant see us battling, seeing as our youngsters are the most underrated in the league.
He likes the appointment but can see us struggling in 2 years? I think he confused himself before he started.
Knights has been given a 3 year contract, in that time he must fast track the developement of our top young players, he will make the hard calls on fringe players stright away, which will certainly give more resposibility to the younger guys to step up. He will take a no bullshit approach with all players. I think Sheeds was too sentimental with fringe players, and that to me was his biggest weakness. He would not throw the kids into the Essendon line up early enough in the season and for a sufficient amount of time for them to get used to that level of footy. In other owds he held them back somewhat.
We have the potential, and with the latest retirements, the young guys will know that positions in the team are theres for the taking, and will push hard to make the grade.
I think in those 3 years we will become a far better team than most think.

Dear July 2007,
you forgot to pull the price-tag off your scarfe.
God, I'm sick of this nonsense.

Was Cole really traded for pick 23?
If so that is a joke...

I personally didnt think it was the recycled players, more bad / unlucky (call it what you will) draft selections during the period 2000 (none left on list) and 2001 (only 1 player left (A.Welsh)).
If those players were still on the list they would approx be 100 game players now and in their prime, that is what we are missing at this point, we are roughly 2 years off where we could of been had those years being better at the draft table. If you dont believe me look at some of the players taken after our picks.
2000
17-J.Davies
27-T.Richards
32-S.Hunt
47-J.Bannister
63-M.Bullen
74-M.Davis
Notable players taken after 17 from 2000
18-D.Kerr
20-K.Cornes
50-D.Cassisi
52-A.Bucchanan
56-D.Cross
+ others
2001
18-S.Harvey
31-J.Reynolds
34-S.O'Keefe
47-A.Welsh **
50-P.Salmon
64-D.McAlister (redrafted-orignally pick4, dont get me started here)
Notable players taken after 18 from 2001
36-S.Mitchell
38-A.Hansen
46-J.Waite
58-D.Swan
+ others
Its not the recycled players, its our drafting, and since 2002 we have been alot better at selecting with last year, IMO, being our finest performance.
However some of the recycled selections have just been plain stupid, not all though.(Allan was to help out ruck stocks, at the time not good, Campo and Heffernan came with high hopes (injuries hurt on both counts.)
In regards to the appointment I can only hope to compare it to another highly unfavoured coach
Alastair Clarkson

im sick to death of these clowns who say our list is crap.....sure we have had a bad 3 years but everyone goes thru this......we may have stuffed up in trading or holding onto players but every club does to.....our list is good and remember we werent far off this year ,i reckon we are 12 to 18 months away from making a real charge for the flag.....
