You would have to think one of the shepp sides would be trying to get Mat Pianto and Steele Sidebottom, saw them play in the murray league grand final at tocumwal they are wasting there talent, seriously, they dominated the game, and they would more than likely hold their own in the Goulburn Valley Under 18s competition

i would say Habib6 should be a good inclusion to GV in 08?

Echuca will be strong again, they will keep a few good players including conners, straughn, morris, pearson, Gorman and joyner. The un16 team whent through the season undefeated key players steeping up are Williams, Phillips, tonni, Evans and leauge b and f ismail. Depending on Pios echuca will be a force in un 18

Without doubt Echuca will be the team to beat this yerar. Keep a watch on Benalla though as they had alot of bottom age players from this years team that will still be around.

might be tough getting a game at the swans this year i hear (not referrring to your chances). apparently have got a very strong intake of good young under 16 footballers from last year many whom played interleague last year. They have been very selective and recruited far and wide. He is no dill their coach.

agree totally, nicho is a very good operator. Look to see the swans as big improvers in 2008. At least one of his boys will be coming up fromU/16's next year also.

Hey Merc, not too sure if that is the case. I believe that they have chased a few from 16's but they are also chasing the same players that United and Bears are chasing. The look like they have picked up Poustie, Knaggs, Magee and Preece (he is a gun) but others are yet to committ or make a decision as to which club they will join and a lot of ordinary players have committed as well. Swans will improve but they will stil be a long way from top 6. They need to pick up nearly 30 new players as last years list was poor and Hamilton and Lewis are too old this year. Do you know what other interleague players have committed. I know they chased Trevaskis but he has committed to United?

Agreed :thumbsu: They will improve but still wont make finals.. They need a whole team of new players just about. and even tho they have picked up a few handy players from u16s those boys wont all be able to be gun players at u18s level to be able to have a top side or have the bodies for it compared to what an echuca had last year. i hear preece is a gun, never seen him play but look forward to seein how he goes next year

yeah, i do. Magee went to tally last year half way thru the year and i dont think he is coming back. they have another guy who is doing pre season with the bushies who has signed. he didnt play much last year but is a gun. been in the u15 schoolboys and under 16's last year. three from shepp high have signed , at least three from wanga and about nine or ten from notre dame are going there. other players are coming also from murray league. cant say a lot else. jordo has committed to united.
doubt if the bears will pick up many top liners - thats why they are chaseing under 16 kids like young, thompson, etc etc

Speaking to a United connection and they are confident of the squad being stronger next season with the possibility of some top players joining. Possible players he mentioned were Gribbons, Mellington, McCluskey, Dickson, Collins, Handley, Tuckett, Doyle, Goodwin, Burness, Trevaskis, Odwyer, Muggleton, Kantakous O'Sullivan, Normington(Highlighted have difinitley committed already). It would be great if they signed all these which would give them some big players which they missed last year and they need them as they lost half their list from last year to the senior grades next season. A few of these are from Congupna, will they all come in? I suppose they all need to be cleared as well. I am pretty sure that there are also other players also committed to United for next year. Can anyone confirm or add to this list?

True True, no one is a certainty until the paperwork is done and they are cleared. So we will have to wait and see. But from what I hear and see it looks like United will recruited the better players for season 08 compared to swans and bears. But lets wait and see. Still a long way to go until the first game.

I heard that they have picked up Chris Grant, Tom Preece and Jesse Finnen for sure. If this is right then they have got some quality there as all 3 are very good players. They must also have Poustie (family is at the club) and Knaggs. I have heard rumours that they have picked up some of the lesser known Notra boys as well. Can anyone confirm this. Also heard that the ever reliable Joe Fui is back in town, any chance of them getting more then a few games out of him this year lol.

Glad to hear that as I saw both these boys during last season and they can play. I hope Tuckett does sign up with United as he will be almost impossible to match up on and would probably kick 30 to 40 goals as a flanker. I really rate him as a potential matsch winner. And the golden greek could be anything, speed to burn, silky skills and dynamite disposal. He will also be a top player in the United side if he signs. Can anyone confirm if these two, Dickson and Muggleton will be moving to the dees? I heard they might be remaining at the Road?

Who would want him. Your right about the other three but there are 5 others that played interleague last year going there plus some other very good footballers from around the area. might be the surprise packet this year.

ppl keep saying that swans are goin to be the surprise packet this year?
how is this gonna happen when from what iv read on here the good players they have are all bottom agers and there is only about 5 of them?Chris Grant, Tom Preece, Poustie, barolli and Jesse Finnen.. all good players for there are but they are not all, if any goin to dominate at this level when they've just come up from u16s.. its a fair bit of a step up in pace skill and the boys are alot bigger... unless alot of there bottom agers from last year step up then i cant see how 5 good u16 players are gonna make them the surprise packet?
just my opionion, anything could happen now untill the start of the year!

true a lot of the boys are bottom agers but others coming are leaving Under 17 competitions. A lot of the players they recruited this year played a couple of games with the swans last year and performed ok. what i did say was that 5 others played interleague (excluding the three you have mentioned) were going to the club. seeing they finished on the bottom last year and marked improvement is on the cards with the recruits that i know that are going there. how far they can go is the question - a rough final chance i believe. anyway time will tell.

Having seen these guys play last year I have no doubt they will be good players for the swans. all can play and together will provide a good base to build a side. I aslo agree that Swans will be the big improvers with United also being a formidible side. Still hard to see ant side really pushing Echuca though.

Echuca have not won any games , started training, qualified for the finals or won the premiership. Sides that work hard and take the least amount of shortcuts win flags-all sides are in the starting blocks and thats it at this stage.

A fair call though i would point out some of the obvious reasons why they are the side to beat. They retain a large number of the side that was beaten in last years Grand Final and added to this they have a group of extremely talented players coming up from the 16's which were undefeated last year with no side coming within 6 gaols of them all year. They have talent across the board and no obvious weaknesses.
Further they have a good coach who 1: Wont take short cuts 2: Will work the group hard and 3: Already started training. You don't need to be Einstein to figure out with sort of mixture they ARE THE TEAM TO BEAT this year.

Agree with you, I think Ky will be the big improver. Edwards, Beck and Guieny are really good players. Add Oggie, Pryde and Lovison and Ky will have a strong onball squad. The only concern would be the other positions. Last season I felt they had too many ordinary players to match it with the top sides.

Difficult to say how they will go, Edwards and Beck would have to be a chance to play seniors at some stage, Oggie is still only u/16 Pryde never got a touch last year and lovo is big hearted but skills ordinary. Ky didn't make finals last year so will have to i9mprove lots from where i sit.

Kyabram will be a force this yr, most of the team from last yr were first yr players and with some very good players from under 16's the bombers will be right up the pointy end of the ladder

Who are some of the other teams which will be strong this year?
Me think that Shepp United, Seymour, Tat, Ky, Echuca will all be very good sides this year
I think that Shepp Swans will surprise a few teams this year as well and even better next year
What are your thoughts?

Without doubt Echuca are the team to beat(see previous postings for reasons) United will be strong with a talented list, benalla will also prove a handy side with Seymour up there as well. Don't know about Ky, they didn't make finals last year though do have some talent coming up from the 16's

Ky are the interesting side I think. They have a new coach which will help heaps and have made an early start to the pre season from what i've heard. the ky boys feel that they will be in for a good year however they need to improve lots to be in the mix for finals. Echuca without doubt are premiership favourites.

I'm not sure whether No Heart is right for your log on, probably no brains is a better option, or is it that all associated with seymour are just simple. As for stating the bleeding obvious re Echuca that is my opinion, which is why we have this thread. Calling me a pin head REALLY HURTS but only shows you up for also being a head , but its not a pin. Grow up.

He's just winding you up jaggo, must have been bored. Not quite sure how Seymour will go this year, i think about half the team from last year will still be around and the next group of players coming up are apparently fairly handy. Might struggle at times due to lack of height.

good solid player.. dunno where youve seen him play any games this year, as he hasnt played in any... lol maybe last year?
has had a shocking run with injuries which has set him back.. last year he only played a hand full of games because he broke his colar bone so bad it went under his sternum or something pretty bad like that.. and this year hasnt been able to train with the bushies or bears due to shin splints... hope he can get it right for the 08 season

How do you guys think Adam Lovison will fare in the 3rds this year. Was a dominant player last year in 16's reckon he will make the transition into 3rds and have an impact this year?

He has a big heart and gives 100% every contest. His skills, mainly his kicking continue to let him down, though training with the bushies may improve him in this regard. Should play ruck at Ky though I have heard they have a number of talls which gives them a number of options.

seymour will go pretty good towards the end of the yr wen they get all their players back from assumption bushies etc. like last yr and also there r a few players who are coming up from the younger age groups.
lions will go back to back and the seniors will go back to back to back to back.

United seem to have picked up some handy first year players in Doyle, Burness, O'Sullivan, Tetley, Trevaskis, Shaw, Wright, Hall, Normington and Goodwin. They all seem to move fairly well from the couple of times Ive seen them train.

How many are on United's final list? What do you feel is a workable/manageable number of players to have on a thirds list? Interested to hear your responses here.

Actually will not be too many rotations as the list includes a couple of bushies and 3 or 4 players that will be playing seniors. The coach and team manager have told me they will have a list of 32 when after you take half a dozen out for bushies and seniors drops the list to 26 which allows for a few injuries and unavailabilities. 30 to 32 is the right size. Past two years they had 28 to 30 and were one or two short.

Hi Jaggo United will have 32 on list.(See previous comment). 30 to 32 seems to be the right number if you look back over the last few years. United had around 28 to 30 last year and ran into trouble with numbers and at one stage had 4 permit players over a three week period. 28 is not enough and over 32 is too many. 32 gives you a good list plus the opportunity to cover any problem that might come up.

thanks for the details, but what happens to the 10 guys who miss out on a game when everyone is available? there would have to be some guys who would rather play regular footy each week.
