Dear fellow Essendon members,
As we enter a new era for the great club we support, i would like to take this chance to bridge the gap between the supporters group who stand in the standing room area behind the Cheer Squad. I have been a member of the cheer squad for a number of years and have been on the inside of a number of things that have transpired. Now our two groups have not had the best of relationships, and this is a genuine shame. We are all at the football for one reason and that is to support the team on the field. Now i know we have had a number of run ins in the past due to a perceived (and sometimes rightly) lack of cheering from our area, I know at least one of your group who was once a member of the CS and i say to you, you know what it was like on the inside (and its only got worse since you left). This will change from next year!!!! The Essendon Cheer Squad will be hanging out the "under new management" sign, and we hope to see an end to the draconian measures used by our former dictators to brow beat and destroy the spirit of the loyal supporters who what to enjoy our time at the football and give our boys the support the deserve and give the enemy a bit of $h1t.

In the spirit of this new era in the CS and the EFC in general, i ask that we try to put aside our differences and band together to make the Bourke St end of the Dome, the most intimidating place in football!!!! I am not asking you to join the CS if you don’t wish to, I do ask that we try to get together before next season and try to get our groups on the same page. For instance, let’s share the various songs / chants we all use and see if we can’t all be cheering the same thing together. I know a number of you will probably flame me for this letter, however it is done with the utmost respect for your groups members and is something that I believe we should try to accomplish as it will only strengthen the support (our team gets) and intimidation (our opposition feels), when playing at the Dome.

Let’s show the football world what a united Essendon force can achieve and finally make the Dome the home ground advantage we deserve by making it the loudest place on earth!!!!

I thank you all for your time, and I look forward to this new era of the EFC,

Regards,

Rat

First of all you call them the group that stands behind the cheer squad - don't you even know their name after all this time ? The Grog Squad, and they leave our sad and sorry "cheer squad" for dead. I have never seen an Essendon FC Cheer Squad so lack lustre, lacking in leadership, and so quiet during games.
There are too many older supporters sitting behind the goals in pre-ordered seats, who contribute nothing to the fanaticism and noise one expects of a Cheer Squad, and let's face it, the cheer squad is for the young - at least it
always used to be - and should still be so.
If the Grog Squad outshine you - as they appear to - why not adopt their chants and get into the spirit of things with them ? (no pun in the use of the word 'spirit" intended). :D
There are many thousands of fanatical kids who follow the Bombers, so why aren't they being approached to join the cheer squad ?

Isn't that what this thread is about?

Cheers Rat. If it's fine with you, I'll copy this and place this on Blitz, where there's been more widespread comment..much of it vindictive in reality and I'll await the response. Have things actually changed at last down in the CS? My god...that is a turn up!

Best of luck with this rat. Good to see that things are changing there and not too soon either. I know who you are and people like you leading the "new Management" can only be a good thing. Best of luck bridging the gap. The only problem you might find is that the people in the grog squad like standing and there will be a big gap between the cs and the gs. Also language and alcohol which might stop some littler ones joining the cheer squad.

Keep up the good work. Good to see you havent lost the passion

Jules..I could tell you some stories of my times in the CS at the end of the 90's till after the end of the 02 season. PM me if you like, because I don't really want to bore everyone about it on here to be fair.

On the Blitz forum at the moment (besides the talk about people's grammer) they are brining up some of the old chants that used to be sung by the Cheer Squad.

Comebackdimma mentioned "Cops shoot cops at sunshine cop shop - do, da, do da, etc..."

Plus there was what parody version we used to do of the Blues Theme song.

An idea that was raised was that maybe there should be a thread (or website?) with all the Grog Squad's chants - so everyone can learn the words.

Thoughts?

Pazza... it's probably not right to go dissing people in a PM on a footy forum where the dissee has no right of response to the disser. ;)

If anything - I just told what I remembered..both good and bad. All true too.
