WOndering if anyone out there has a copy as the afl wont release it to dvd for some reason

There isn't one apparently. Spent some time and effort looking for one last year. The TV stations dont have one, name a game hasn't got it, channel 7 says theirs is "incomplete".:eek:
Unless someone has an old video tape of it there is a piece of history missing.

saw a copy of vhs on ebay last yr go for 20 bucks but the tape ran out in the last ten minutes, when we kicked 8 or 9 goals to record a victory in our first game, so it would have been the best part. Funny thing is that last quarter record still stands today.
oh well was worth a shot
theres quite abit of the game on the dvd "best of western derbies"

I believe it's a hard game to source as ABC had the rights to the VFL in 1987 due to a contract dispute with 7 IIRC.
I saw highlights in one of the "history of west coast" you-tube videos. But I don't think there was much to see.
Very sad that the club does not have footage of this game. I mean some of the other teams have footage from way way back.
I guess we can say we started in 1991

Have read in the programme from the game that it was screend live into melbourne ... There must be some sort of copy around?

Have just read another add from the programme and it says channel 7 were to screen the wce vs ess game from r2 1987 live into perth?

I have two games from the Eagles first season on VHS (havent checked in a while that they're still working!) which were our narrow wins over high-flying Carlton and Hawthorn.
But unfortunately I don't have the first game v Richmond on tape :(
Although I was at the game, standing on the grass at the PMH end! Murray Wrensted won us the game with a blistering Q4 as we ran all over the Tiges! :thumbsu:
Even though ABC had the TV rights in 1987, Channel 7 telecast the games in Perth. Unbelievably, the home games used to be replayed late at night (around 10.30pm?) with the telecast hosted by Dennis Cometti and Eric Sarich.
The Essendon v West Coast game you speak of was a CRACKING MATCH, and I do recall it being shown live/near live into Perth in the afternoon.

Has anyone contacted ABC Melbourne or the Tigers? Either of those may possibly have the game. IF ABC played it in Melbourne with it being replayed here, it should be available there you would think. The Tigers may have had better systems in place than the Eagles about saving copies of the games as well.
I assume someone has already contacted the club.

I tried to get this game last year. Name a Game told me that can't get a complete version of the game but didn't advise how much was incomplete. I have been told that West Coast do have a complete version of the game but won't release it to the public.
I did ask a contact at Channel 7 Perth to see if he could get me a copy, so far he hasn't got back to me so on seeing this thread I will chase it up tomorrow and see if I can hassle him for it. If I get a postive result I will report back and see who is interested!!!
