players that should be given a go only if they show some improvement or tallent! franchina, fevola, freeborne, plunkett, houllahan?mckernnan!&
players that might go although deserve to stay, hickmont, mackay.
my opinnion why from seson 1999-till now mistakes of carlton
from second best side in afl 2000 to bottom now
problem, john elliot! paying kouta 1m contrct disturbed other players our sallary cap went to peices
2-getting ridd of definite future champion in carlton if stayed hammill

I get what your saying georgee! I think most of what you say is true...I dont think you can blame Wayne Brittain because the team did very well last season under him.
By the way Thrawn..the only reason you dont understand it is because u carlton fans only undertand Italian and Greek :P :P Only Joking mate!

I dont understand...but!! What makes you think Murphy would be out in 2003!!?? Why would he come back to Carlton if he wasn't going to stay! And he is too young for retirement!

Okay... I am going to take some time out, and painstakingly summarise this "post" by Georgee:

My list of senior players who should be out in 2003:

Murphy
Mansfeild
Bradley
Christou
Manton
Hotton

All these players listed above should definitely be out. Some should retire now, personally all of them. Players that should be given a go only if they show some improvement or talent:

Franchina
Fevola
Freeborn
Plunkett
Houlihan
McKernan

Players that might go although deserve to stay:

Hickmott
McKay

This is my opinion of some of the players from season 1999 until now. There have been a lot of mistakes made at Carlton recently:

1 - From the second best side in AFL in 2000 to the worst now. Problem: John Elliot! Paying Kouta a $1 million contract disturbed other players' salaries, and since then, our salary cap went to pieces.

2 - Getting rid of definite future champion in Carlton if stayed: Hamill.

3 - Getting rid of young talented ruckman Porter.

4 - Bad, bad recruiting.

5 - Not getting a qualified senior coach.

Believe me, if they played like in the eighties and Carlton were second best in 2000 they would have won the premiership in 2001 and being a force to be reckoned with. What went wrong? Coach? Injuries? What? Just look at the attitude of our players on the field. Look at the turn around from senior players this year. For example how many times did Braddles pass to opposition players this season? I can easily record 10 times. How many times has he done that in the last 10 years? I do not remember any! Campo is getting caught more, Ratten is getting tired more, Lappin is hot and cold, there is something wrong and I believe it's from the coach and up! That's my opinon anyway!

Think about it! How can a side with still some good senoir players who were a threat last year play so badly? Remember Freo only had 1-3 good players when they won the wooden spoon. Collingwood had only 1 good player when they were rebuilding and near the bottom, and they were not as bad as us! If we are to rebuild let's do it now, and at least be competitive! I do not want to be a Melbourne, Richmond or even a Western Bulldogs team when they were doing badly. We should rebuild to win flags and be a force like we were for the last 40 friggin' years, for we were always hard too beat! I cannot remember in 40 years when we were easy beats and believe me, I'm not lying! Even in '98 we were competitive!

Okay... I'm tired now!

thanks for helping me out ,the spelling is notoriuos, any way i love carlton football club and im just mad and frustrated!if feel we have enough talent to choose from,to at least be more competitive, and win some games i do not like going down with out a fight, its not carltons style, why are we starting now!
and if we need to make some drastice changes lets do so for the sake of our future!we could easily start struggling like melbourne since the sixtees, and richmond since the early eightees!if we are too have a spell in the bottom half of the eight at least have a 1-2 year spell while we are rebuilding, not a bloody 10-20 year one!

I think you will find that there will be around 10 changes to the playing list in my opinion.

Bradley & Mansfield will retire.
Houlihan, Fevola, Freeborn, Franchina, Plunkett, Hotton, Christou, Doering, Cranage, and possibly even Fletcher will be traded or delisted !!

The players I reckon we need to eradicate are

Cranage
Fletcher (but if he keeps up the good work from last week then he should be given a second chance)
Mansfield
Freeborn

why the hell did carlton re-draft Cranage in last years national draft ???

TheSheik
18 Jun 2002, 16:19
Redrafting him was a bit like one of those "Mystery Bets" you can get from the TAB, you just don't know what you've got and it's usually a waste of money anyway !!

What do u think will happen to the rookie list players ?

i think that Thornton and Doering will be given permanent elavations to the senior list

Bray & Davis will spend a 2nd year on the rookie list

Matthews will be delisted

Good question. I wondered the same thing myself. Definately one of life's great mysteries.

Thornton will certainly be placed on the senior list permanently, Davis may be given another year on the rookie list but the other two will be traded or delisted.

Sorry Tony, I'm just not one of his fans. There are a lot of others who are extremely excited by him but I am not one of them. There is no doubting he has terrific skills but I don't think he applies himself hard enough for the full 100 minutes of the game. His defensive skills are virtually non-existant and his refusal to give chase is frustrating & extremely annoying. Unless he is kicking 4-5 goals a game, I believe he is a liability.

I think Jimmy Plunkett will be around next year, he's done more than a lot of players from what I've seen on Imparja's pathetic AFL coverage here in the Centre.

Very disappointed with Spudda Murphy, I thought he would have given us a lot more. Another disappointment for me this year has been Matty Lappin after a great year last year.

Bradley has to go, The few games I've seen Christou has done OK, I was surprised when he was dropped. Mants and his bolt have to go as well.

I'd say Jimmy Plunket will definately be around the club for quite some time. He's a great little player and will get even better with time.

I can't understand how people want to get rid of Houlahan!!! He is only very young and with a bit of persistance, will turn into a great player.
