Has been strongly linked to Sydney in the trade talks so far but was thinking maybe we should offer something to Adelaide for him (maybe Egan). Of course I would prefer we grab Wood (or another able ruckman) before we do this but just hang it out there for Adelaide to think about.
I think he would slot straight into our backline.
Thoughts?

No! Only trade target we should consider is Wood- unless there is something else out there that is worth something to us.
Mattner is just an upgrade on Lonie. Not interested.
Egan is worth holding onto also and has more talent than Mattner. Our back-line will be fine- we don't need another medium sized defender.

I did mention I'd prefer the Wood trade to happen first but just put the idea in Adelaide's head so that they don't go through with any Sydney deal while we thrash out a deal for Wood.

i strongly disagree, i dont have the stats with me (because i dont have that much time on my hands) but marty mattner is one of the best tacklers in the comp, something that ryan lonie could never dream of being (due to peaheart syndrome) he provides more run and dash out of backline and is a good user of the pill on the run, long kick of the footy too. hes what we need for when heater finally goes on the ball as a midfielder (heres hoping)
Stay away... I thought he was good, but is nothing more than an average player.
Rather would keep a draft selection!!

Mattner = Reasonably good wingman/Flanker...not needed at Collingwood IMO.
Mattner was traded to the Swans for pick 28. Just saw on main board.
