Williams, Boyle and McGlynn are trade bait..
Hmmmm
People forget how good Williams is. If he goes it must be for a gun and a good pick or 2 top picks.
Willow! Lets hope his knee is bung or Ill kill somebody.
Dont mind the other two on the block though

The other two I am not fussed. But a BIG NOOOOOOO! to Williams

Just heard that and nearly choked on my dinner.
Boyle - 50/50
McGlynn - 60/40 Pro purely due to disposal.
Willo - FFS!!! 100% against!
Short of Willo being a naughty boy or wanting to head back to WA, NO WAY!!!
Mark Williams is the one player in the AFL I'd want taking a 50 metre kick after the siren for my life. Nice bloke, super talent and really hasn't reached his peak yet. Kicked plenty of goals already and has plenty more in him being young.
For Boyle I'd be expecting a 15-30 pick or fringe player and 40ish
For Willo- I'd be expecting a top 10 pick or a 10-20 pick plus a young player.
Fremantle or West Coast better be prepared to get their arse handed to them in a trade. IF we lose Willo, I want the kitchen sink as well as picks and players.
DON'T TRADE WILLO!!!

3AW have just reported that Richmond's Danny Meyer is talking to Hawthorn!
OMFG No!
I say no to all of them. Boyle's been good for most the year in his real first year back. His last 5-6 weeks were pretty ordinary but we need to also remeber his early season form.
McGlynn is a little dynamo and will only improve; Only Clarkson's love of Vanderberg kept him out f the side late in the season.
I'm looking forward to seeing Williams next year as the small forward with three other big targets up front.
if we were to trade willo, which id rather not, i wouldnt mind mckinley and one of theyre early second round picks.. Mckinley would fill the hole left by willow and would not require to much altering to the game plan.
Id much rather keep willow, unless he has asked to move on..

If we don't give up alot, I wouldn't mind it.
He's got silky skills, yet hasn't been able to use them at Richmond.
I think, for the right price, he'd be a shrewd pickup.

Hell no!
I'm sure we'd be interested in Williams.
I remember those rumours about his knee being gone beyond repair. Was the bs? It might be a reason why your looking to trade him?

Can't see us gettign rid of both Willo and Boyle, but one seems reasonable and that should be Boyle, for mine.
I suspect there will be all this rumour nonsense and come Friday afternoon, nothing will have changed for us.

If we were to trade Willow the team enquiring would ask for reports on his knee and may have to complete a physical to prove he is ready for 08.

I agree. They would not even consider trading Willo unless there is something seriously wrong. I hope Willo is healthy and stays. He would add enormous variation to our forward line.
Let's not forget Willo knows how to kick goals and from difficult angles.
Channel 7 is sh*t.
Its channel 7, dont believe them! I bet they found it on a bit of paper in a gutter!!!!

Pelchin won't be trading anyone unless it's for an absolute steal that meets our needs - right now everyone is a required player.
Willo would only be traded if he wanted out or we were offered a top 4 pick.

Oh God, Pelchen is the most overated person at the Hawthorn Football Club.
You do realise he traded Brad Sewell our 07 Peter Crimmins Medalist for Melbournes Ferguson? If Ferguson didnt decline the trade we would have lost our B & F winner for a hack. He is not as great as everyone wishes to pump him up to be.

surely the hawks will not trade williams
he is the missing piece to the hawks puzzle as they have superb tall and medium forwards...
a fit and firing williams and they are going to be nye on impossible to beat...its scary

I would take rumours on Williams knee with a grain of salt, last yr the big rumour was that Stevie Johnson's ankles were shot and 12 months later he is an all Australian and Norm Smith medalist. I think clubs perpetuate these rumours to appease their supporters when a proposed trade deal falls over.
And just for the record, I am not in favour of trading Williams, as you do not give away a small forward who is a proven matchwinner, and is capable of kicking 60+ goals a season.

that was in '05 and we desperately needed a defender, Ferguson had a great year for the demons and sewell was only serviceable - nice use of hindsight.
Have a look at what we got for Hay and Lonie and where they're at...

Is that Pelchen's great dealing or other teams stupidity? A good trade is picking up some one every one writes off and then develops to a star, not suceeding on other teams recruiting mistakes.

Brent Guerra - Most consistent in '07
Stephen gilham - Most improved in '07
We also went for thornton - in the end it forced carlton to double his salary.
also important to note the model the club went for meant we traded off some higher paid exprienced players for national draft selections. eg Birchall & Bailey.

First you bag Pelchen for a mistake he didn't make then you refuse to acknowledge the brilliants deals he has completed.
Interesting.

Who do you think had the pull in getting Guerra and Gilham, Pelchen or Clarko?
I think Clarko convinced them.
I have never said Pelchen is a dud, I have said too many people over rate him and talk like he is a God amongst men. Where he has had great success he very well could of had his fair share of failures.

From what I read from our guys quotes, on the day 2 summary of trade week.
I think there's every indication that we are listening to offers for those 3 players. Thats totally different from throwing them up as trade bait.
If we can get a deal that benefits our club, no matter who is involved, or what it is, then that's all that matters.
I would request a key defender though so i can fill in my premiership 18 in 2009-2013.

I never said he was a god, just implied given previous dealings, that he would not do certain trades unless they truly benefited the club and we were seen to be ahead on the deal.
Can only measure a recruiter by the strength of the list - our list has improved since he returned. plain and simple.
Did he run over your cat?

Find it hard to believe a forward we've taken 5 years to build would be traded away (boyle, williams).
Williams is 100% pure class and quality...he is a must keep.
McGlyn is persistent, like a dog with a bone...or is that my golden retriever? McGlyn is free to leave the nest and if between he and boyle we could land an 'A' grade key defender then bring it on...

Like it or not there have been guys Pelchen chased that werent good. Even in Fergusons supposed good year, Rivers was their key defender. Some fans think he cant do no wrong, where i rather keep fans honest and make them realise that he can do wrong. He has been great for us, but he isnt perfection and everything he does, does not gaurantee success.

Would hold onto Mcglynn, he's a little gem. Fell away in terms of form towards the end of the season, but i guess it was his first full year at AFL level, so you can't be too harsh on him.
The Hawks should not trade Williams unless they get a QUALITY defender for their backline. Williams could be a very big addition to your forward line after being sidelined in 2007.
Boyle - well, imo he should be shopped around. Had a good season, but he can be replaced with the many forwards you have waiting to get a chance in the reserves. He's impressive on his day but can be a bit lacklustre from time to time. If the hawks get a player that they are missing from their lineup, or a decent pick in this years draft, then they should take up the offer.

recruiting isn't easy - only 25% of top 20 picks go on to become anything. Discards from other clubs probably less than 10%.
All recruiters do wrong. No one is perfect in the recruiting game, never have been, never will be, but there are variables that can be controlled - one of which is bargaining and he does it very well..another is planning and modelling, he's meticulous in this area and so far it is progressing well for us.
And yep he has been great for us.

its funny that one of the most sensible posts in this entire thread comes from a carlton supporter.
Well done BD, completly agree with you.
Keep Mcglynn - we need someone to fill vanders shoes and he is that someone.
Williams - is the missing link in our foreward line, and would give buddy a bit more time to run. The only thing i would trade him for would be a very very good defender, and if he wanted to go.
Boyle - as much as I like him and want to keep him, he's a great playeer and has good trade value at the moment. Our foreward line is great and we have some youngsters coming up who would get more of a chance if Boyle wasn't there. I wouldn't go around trying to sell him for all means. But if someone came to us with a really good deal we should consider it...
thats my 2 cents...
Channel 7 is sh*t.
yeah, Channel 7 have as much credibility as SEN. The guy that reported today's update on trades was Tony Sheehan, who is a guy that appears to just read whatevers on bigfooty. Yesterday, he was the guy who said Roughie was on the table, and now we hear nothing.
To be honest, there is a whole lot out there that is bs.
I mean half of our bloody list is apparently being put on the table, yet you'd be lucky, I mean bemused, to see anymore than 1 being traded.
Sit back, relax, and wait for the end of the week, and I'm sure you'll find that list is nearly exactly the same it was before the trade week.
