Seriously Real, dumb move. You couldn't possibly expect to win this thread, regardless of which movie you think is better.
At least you could have posted Ebert's old review of FC to try and sway some people .
Fwiw, both are strong films and neither is deserving of harsh criticism.

You really needed to do that a day after South Park just beat MASH in a sitcom contest? Come on now.
Obviously something that was out more recently will have been seen by more people and thus get more votes.
This isn't just a 90's thing - If I put "The Great Dictator" (30's) up against "The Pink Panther" (60's), the latter would win every time, courtesy of having been seen by more voters. It's pretty simple, really.

pretty silly reasoning. that is like saying Ricky Pointing is a better batsmen than Sir Don Bradman because more people watched him play.

What an absurd question.
Vertigo is one of the greatest, most complex films about love, Hitchcock and film itself.
Fight Club is a very good film but unfortunately revels in its own superficiality for my liking even though it purports otherwise.
Essentially you have one of the greatest films of all time that usually cracks a Top 10 on most lists with cineastes in Vertigo and a great film which is usually rated by people who like to drool at cool.
To even want to rate these two films together dishonours Vertigo.

Citizen Kane>>>>>>all of those you have listed, it appears to me that you are a hollywood tragic living a bit in the past.
how so?? what makes it better??
To me Vertigo was just another murder mystery and was a bit too long, in saying I still very much liked it(4/5).
Fight Club deals with issues affecting society and satiricly spins them in a both comedic and scary sense.
Now movies arent just stories either, if they were there would be no point in them existing and I think its safe to say that Fight Club's cinematography>>>Vertigo's by quite some way, and not only coz it was made 40 years later but for the time it was released it was quite innovative.
Finally the acting in Fight Club is more entertaining, and after all isnt that what an actor is supposed to do??? entertain??(except in Bio's and true stories perhaps)
Anyway that is my response.

Amelie
Pulp Fiction
A Clockwork Orange
Fight Club
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
City of God
2001: A Space Odyssey
well firstly you say a fight clubs cinemotgrahy is better than Vertigo cause it was released fourty years later.
And the point of acting is to make you believe that the story you are watching is real.

Okay, well obviously it is becoz it is 40 years more modern.
You could argue however that Vertgo's cinematography is as good if not better for the time it was made, but my point is that Fight Clubs cinematography was innovative for its time which is why I rate it higher than Vertigo's.

Again, you seem to think that your opinion is the sole light of truth and that one elses opinion counts on the matter. Egocentricism is a sign of undeveloped personality. Learn to accept that people will have an opinion different to yours and you may actually even make a friend one day and not have to abuse people on a message board to have someone to converse with.

If your alking about the top 100 film of all time magazine.
The new one is voted by the public that's why popular movies like Pirates of the caribean and X men 2 make the top 50. Last year they released a proper top 100 selected by a proper panel.
Fight Club was fourth, Vertigo was second.

It means absoluely nothing that I think Vertigo is one of the finest films ever made an that Fight Club was nothing short of awful.
The only reason I'm bothering with this thread is to state that it is a sad indictment on this forum that Vertigo is being treated in such a manner - no, being compared to Fight Club does not bother me, although (my opinions on their respective qualities aside) how those two films can have much of anything in common is beyond me.
No, instead I'm just disgusted that this is the sort of thread that passes for debate on these boards.
It demeans Vertigo and yes, as much as I hate the film, it demeans Fight Club too.

I voted Vertigo, as I love Hitchcock, but the thread starter is being a knob.
FC is an amazing film, the cinematography, lighting, editing even visual composition of the first half (yeah chrissy, I know something about films) is amazing, the start credits are perfect (the bit when the camera winds through his head), so if anyone has seen both, and yet calls FC better, I can understand that, it might have nothing to do with the film's ages, it might just be they like FC. Both movies are great in their own right, if someone votes for FC after seeing both, that's perfectly fair, Vertigo isn't god. It isn't even Hitchcock's best film. Vertigo is one of the best films of all time, yes. But to say that anyone who votes for FC doesn't know anything about old films is the height of film snobbery. Vertigo has flaws, believe it or not. It's too long for a start.
My favourite film is apocalypse now, which was released in 79, I'm not one of those noobs who only likes current films.

Yes, North by Northwest is an excellent, five star film. Psycho, Rear Window, Strangers on a Train, The Birds, Marnie, Rebecca, Shadow of a Doubt, The 39 Steps. All good and plenty I've missed but I like Vertigo the most, it's my fave film along with two others.

PS: wHICH DO THINK IS hITCHCOCKS BEST??? I like North by NW
I voted Vertigo simply because I thought the poll should be more even and because technically it is a better film, which is what the question asks. Yet I like FC better, and is higher in my favourite films than Vertigo. If the op had have asked which do you like, Vertigo or FC, I would have said FC. For a thriller, it is way too long, and the last 30 mins drag out for me. But technically, it is better. I think I have you confused with real, real's gone now so this is pissing in the wind. Voting for FC is no shame.
