Moves for Hawk Tim Boyle

HAWTHORN forward Tim Boyle continues to attract attention from opposition clubs as AFL trade week enters its third day.

Three clubs have sounded out the club about Boyle and young forward Jarryd Roughead.
Grant Birchall and Jordan Lewis are among other players who have attracted interest from opposition clubs, but they have been told the pair are off limits.
The Hawks have said Roughead is not trade bait, and while Boyle signed a new contract this year, they are prepared to listen to what clubs have got to offer.
Hawthorn recruiting and list manager Chris Pelchen said last night the Hawks wanted to retain Boyle and had not put out the for-sale sign.
"It's like if someone walks up to you and says, 'Would you like to sell your house?' " Pelchen said.
"You might not want to sell your house, but if they put an offer in, then you might listen to what they have to offer."
Pelchen said while the Hawks had an open-minded attitude, he did not have any great expectations of doing any deals.
Boyle was a key player for Hawthorn early in the season, but struggled for form after returning to the side following a hamstring injury.
The retirements of Joel Smith, Ben Dixon and captain Richard Vandenberg have left extra room in Hawthorn's salary cap if the club wants to pursue a ready-made player.
However if it does a trade deal, it is more likely to seek an early draft selection.Burchell & Lewis shows what talent we have i wonder what they would be worth:thumbsu:

Reading that article one would think other clubs are coming to Chris and ask if he wants to sell the Hawthorn Football Club.

We exist to play football not run a meat market.

Reading that article it appears HFC have not considered anyone for trade but have had approaches from other clubs for specific persons.

I personally do not believe we should be trading this year - time for consolidation and loyalty building.

But I can also understand why we would listen to offers. You never shut the door completely on anything.

They live in lala land over there.

Give you boiled lollies for your prized cattle and want gold sovereigns for their fatty mutton.

Thornton is not worth the trouble. We have Danny Jacobs, we need a proper full back.

You seem to have conveniently forgot we picked up hodge and mitchell through trading.

In todays football no club can improve there list without considering trading to fill the odd gap - look at the effect ottens has had for geelong.

Further it can also be fairer for the player involved as they may have limited opportunities to play senior football at a particular club.

Agreed, BB. The thrust of my sarcastic line was aimed at the cheek of looking at Birch and Roughie. They are regulars not ones given few opportunities.

True.

Part of the problem with these reports is I think some in the media are trying to give the impression that we treat our players like meat when in truth we are acting exactly like any club does (and would in our position).

If someone says I want to buy X, and you say what would you offer (which you always should if just to find out the market) it does not mean you are seriously thinking of selling X.

We have too many forwards with Willo and Thorp to come into the line up this season! We need a quality tall backmen!
