The Australian team is not expected to change with the struggling Brad Hodge expected to keep his spot in front of Brad Haddin.

... why?

Does Australia want to lose?

This is ridiculous.

Maybe they're compensating for not giving him an opportunity as much earlier in his career?

Why not? If Hodge should be dropped then so should Gilly and Haddin could take his spot, oh no reserve batsmen so Hodge stays in :D

Maybe the selectors are looking further than 2 matches ahead, give Hodge a whole series to show he still deserves the reserve batsmans spot (Which he practically sewed up with his stunning form earlier this year) because Haddin cant have it as there will be a keepers spot available very soon

Australian selection historically gives guys chance after chance after chance...think 2005 Ashes and Hayden, Katich, and Martyn and Clarke to a lesser extent...Aussie team is hard to get in and hard to get out

Even though I was unhappy that Haddin had to make way for Ponting while Hodge stayed in the team, it was probably fair enough to give Hodge a couple more games to try and prove himself down the order.

I cant believe that after another couple of poor perfomances that he is still in the side. I htink if he plays in the next game that it would surely have to be his last chance, another failure and he would have to make way for Brad Haddin.

Don't be silly. Eddie made a good comment - hadn't thought of it that way myself, actually.

Fox Sports and objectivity don't mix.

Don't sweat though folks - I've got a sneak peak at their newest article/piece - entitled,

"It's time for Clarke to captain the team - Thornley knocking on door of test team - Ponting under pressure"

Why? He came in for Ponting and went out when Ponting came back, just as Hodgey has done many times

Looks like Hodgey will keep his spot for the next game as he wont get a bat tonight

Seriously mate, clearly you're a Hodge fan, but surely you can see that on form Haddin should be in the team miles ahead of Hodge right now

Not really, the Aussies have always had their preferred lineup and stuck with it through a series, most times when hodge has been the reserve batsman deserving a go, its the Aussie way, about time he benefited from it

Haddin has to now learn that patience is the key and for him he knows within 6 months a full time spot will open up

Well he better get some friggin runs today because Haddin scored more in one innings than Hodge has got all tournament. I'm willing to give him one more chance but for me, he is a brilliant first class player but at international level so far he has struggled with the swinging ball outside off stump.
And getting caught at short leg late in the day against South Africa off Nel nearly made me put my foot through the telly. That was just village

Yeah and then Ponting decided that was a weakness and spent 2 hours with Hilfenhaus attacking it last year allowing Hodge to smash Tassie all over the MCG :D

He has struggled in the subcontinent and made runs in the West Indies, NZ and Australia, 3/4 aint bad

But when it comes to a Victorian only the most recent innings seems to count rather than what they did before that, thankfully the selectors have longer memories than the Anti Vics

But it doesnt look like he will get a chance to bat today

Lol its funny how some supporters jump the gun, a lack of faith and commitment to the players representing our country. How about a little bit of support.

I remember last summer Hayden was struggling with form, everyone wanted him gone for Jaques. Yet the selectors stuck with him and he has made the most runs by an Australian in a calander year in ODIs this year and has been our best batsman.

Hodge has proved he is up to international standard with a number of great innings particularly his 97* at the MCG last summer another occasion when fans wanted him gone yet produced a match-winning innings.

both fringe players. lets face it , it's hard to cement a place in the aussie odi side. the top 7 are solid when everyone is fit. hussey and watson are out at the moment.

hodge and haddin may well get more of a go (providing we rotate the odi side over summer again) and perhaps the end of hayden and gilchrist in colored clothes.

Haddin will be more than a fringe player once Gilchrist retires. Imo Haddin is still in the best 4-5 WK/Batsman in the world with Gilchrist, Dhoni, Sangakkara. Poor guy has to sit it out when he shouldn't have to. England would kill for a keeper like Haddin.

It's disappointing however, that Haddin, who is playing much better cricket is not given priority at this point in time. Jaques had not played last summer in an OD game so it was debatable as to whether he was going to be able to perform. Haddin and performed in BOTH game's against India while Hodge has failed on four occasions.
