He is gonna cop so much abuse from all teams spectators.
It will be one of his biggest mistakes of his playing career for being to cocky.

I remember Nathan Brown, when he was playing for the Bulldogs, was running into an open goal and turned around and showed the ball to all the Geelong players. Our boys then said after the match (which we came back and won, btw) said that was pretty much THE defining moment, that got them over the line.
Yes, Tredrea did it when they were like 1,000 points up against North, but still it was very much a case of "what goes around comes around". ;)

I know!! Couldn't believe what I was seeing to be honest. IIRC, that goal only put them up like by 24 points or there abouts, early in the last quarter? Hardly a match winning lead... we then ended up winning by seven points or something. (much to the delight of Browny)

I think it might have been the 3rd quarter from memory, which is probably a tad too early to act like that. Especially in a tight game.
I seem to recall him doing it another time for the Dogs against North (waving the ball to the crowd as he kicked a goal), and they lost that one too. You'd think there would be a lesson there.

Can't recall that game. Must have been one that wasn't televised in Sydney (like so many). What year and round was it?

Ah, yeah it definitely could have been. Was at Optus Oval too! One kick out of the centre and you're in front of goal.

Not really, Wayne Carey played up the arrogant personality beautifully, when he'd cop abuse he'd do something magical and turn around and give the guys in the front row a cheeky smile with his tongue out...
Additionally, Ablett Snr would often take a one-hander whilst holding off his opponent with his other arm... only to hold the ball in the palm of his one hand about 10cm from his opponents face. He also outbodied michael brennan WCE in 1995 and ran past and messed up his hair to rub it in that he was completely owned.
As mentioned, Nathan Brown held the ball out to us in 99 (sure we got the last laugh), Ronnie Burns would always distrespect his opposition when he would kick a seemingly match winning goal only to give the double-barrel dulling celebration to the crowd... yet more often than not we would lose the next centre clearance and we'd conceed a goal.
Arrogance happens so much in football its not funny, sure its fun to kick players like Treadrea and Cornes when we've thrashed them - but what we are effectively doing is showing them no respect. I'm sure Port will at some stage in the future have the last laugh on us... and the Port fans will rub it in to the Geelong fans because we showed them no respect.
As happy as I was to rub it in to the Port boys on the day, after 2 weeks I am officially over bagging them... arrogance is bliss... it happens all the time.

I'll go for round 5, 1999. And Shell was spot on, Optus Oval. Nice sunny day if I vaguely recall. Right at the height of Brett Spinks' career.

And i cant agree with it being the height of Spink's career either, his career finished in round 22 1998. Jason Mooney was the Brett Spinks of 99, before David Mensch 2000, before Kingsley 01-04.
What a trade week it was in 1998... we traded for Simon Arnott (Syd), Jason Mooney (Syd), Scott Bamford (Bris), Tristan Lynch (Bris) and Tom Harley (PTA). Funnily enough, the only player I didn't rate was Harley... :o - he shut me up from 2000-2007.

I can remember Harley's first game for Geelong. We were playing Adelaide at AAMI and Tom had kept Darren Jarman to one goal in the first three quarters.....then had 5 kicked on him in the last as we got thumped by 11 goals. I think Scarlett had half a dozen kicked on him in his first game too playing on Matty Lloyd. Who'd have thought the best part of a decade later they'd be the two players we have built our defence around?
