MELBOURNEfc is pleased to announce that Sean Wellman has signed a two year deal with the Club as an Assistant Coach.

During his 12 year playing career, Sean played 212 games with both Adelaide and Essendon. He was a member of the 2000 Essendon premiership side, and was an All Australian on two occasions (1998 and 2001) as well as an International Rules representative. Since retiring as a player, Sean has spent the past two years at the Western Bulldogs as an Assistant Coach.

MELBOURNEfc Coach Dean Bailey told melbournefc.com.au, “We are thrilled that Sean has agreed to join our coaching team as our backline coach. He brings with him a wealth of playing experience in the backline area and will be an excellent teaching resource and mentor for our backs. Sean’s energy and passion for coaching will add to the diversity, skill and knowledge of our coaching team.”

Wellman said, “I am very excited to be a part of the Melbourne Football Club. We have a young promising list, and I look forward to the opportunity to help develop our players.

Was the forward coach at the Dogs. Yes I know he is a backman. They had a fairly good record for getting scores with the talent they had so should do well with us.

Mmmmmm more coaches at the club with a bad case of hair loss. I like it:thumbsu:

Hair loss breeds ugliness, ugliness breeds ridicule, ridicule breeds anger, anger breeds strength, strength breeds premierships

The cleanout had to happen, I'm just glad we've got a bloke at the helm willing to make the changes.
Never liked Wellman as a player, but hopefully some of that mongrel rubs off on our boys.

Great pick up for the club, He'll give our backline some much needed kick out smarts ,which we sucked hard core this year personally I hope he designates Daniel Bell or Wheatley for the kick outs not Carroll.

Don't worry Carroll never has and never will do kick outs. Wheatley is the incumbent when in the team, Whelan has done it before and midfielders always try to do them. I wouldn't want Bell doing it, he gets confused under pressure. The main thing is to work on our quick kickouts, which are the worst in the league.

Yeah good point ,It's probably the weakest facet of our team ,I just hope that when it comes to a kick out situations ,we don't go short .I'm a sucka for the long kicks down the guts to a target ,or finding a quick running player off the HBF ,Davey or Pettered getting it quickly into our 50.
