Just thought id let you guys know that we are apparently interested in acquiring his services for the short term. The match committee feel that with getting Judd it could be handy to get an experienced ruckman that may see us seriously challange for a finals spot next year.

Im not very interested in him as i think his best footy is past him and i don't want to waste my time on another ruckman who is not up to it.

Just wondering what your opinions on him are, and wether we should get him or not.

My source is a current player at CFC

I don't think the players would know much more than we do at this stage of the week. I highly doubt we'll go for King.

Would be an excellent pick up - allow the Hammer time to develop

He's a premiership ruckman and a former AA.

He's not quite past it yet, and SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better then anyone else you have.

King isn't a dud..he would be quite handy next season

The problem I see with that is there would be limited opportunity for Aisake and Hampson.

Not to mention the amount of ruckmen on our list.

Cloke, Ackland, Kreuzer, Aisake, Hampson, Jacobs + king that would be 7

Personally i'd rather see Aisake and Cloke doing the ruck.

I think you would be quite surprised just how much some players are in the know, or in fact want to be kept up to date on operations

I am with you, he would take pressure off Hampson and Aiaske.....could be a good option for a couple of years....I thought his leadership and ruckwork was great in the GF, definetely worth the risk.....

Would take him in the PSD if it means that Ackland never plays another game for Carlton.

Would be a bit worried about his body and ability to remain on the park for the whole season, however if we can get 2 years of service out of him whilst Aisake and Hampson play second fiddle to him, it will give those guys a better chance to develop instead of being thrown straight into the deep end.

He would be a good paper weight on swann's desk. Lets keep him

IMO King would be the best ruck option we have had since Matty Allan's awesome year of 99........

Since Allan left we have had French, Mott, McLaren, Ackland and Cloke as our rucks and King >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> All of them!

I know it could hinder on development of Hampson, Aisake, Kruezer etc. but they would benefit a lot from his input. We also have to remember that ruckman take longer to develop than KPP players due to the fact that it is the toughest position (strength wise) on the ground and most blokes dont hit their physical peek until around 26. So it is essential to have an older ruckman on your list because otherwise our young blokes will just be ragdolled and our star studded midfield's job will become twice as tuff because they have to start roving off opposition ruckman the whole time.

I firmly think that with a fit King for 2-3 years would see Carlton playing finals no later than 2009, perhaps even next year!

Play Cloke in defense. King+Ackland ruck combo would go alright. Hampson and Kreuzer won't learn anything by playing 1's at the moment. They just wont be strong enough for it.

I'd be comfortable signing on King for 2 years. That way in 2 years time we get rid of him and Ackland and let the the kids have a crack.

Hampson, Aisake and Kruezer have miles more talent than any rucks on your list. I'd prefer to keep developing our own talent. :)

King would be great for our young rucks, Ackland is at the moment our most experienced ruckman. Yes it is a short term fix but King would a great pick up

I'd take him for a year or two, especially if it meant that Ackland didn't get a game next year. Hypothetically, we could have King/Cloke in the ruck, with Hampson as a back up.

You don't think King could help with the development of some of these guys?

If he was available in the PSD than I'm all for it - however, I wouldn't be giving up anything big nor putting him on a large contract. Realistically, given his age and injury problems, we're only looking at 2-3 years, by which time our young rucks will hopefully be physically ready to compete at AFL level.

But again, unless we can get him for nothing (PSD) or very cheap, I'd pass.

Cats premiership ruckman Steven King was again overlooked by rival clubs yesterday and in the likely event of him not being traded today, the 28-year-old is contemplating retirement.

He'd be perfect while our youth develops... PSD... If he comes over u could pretty much insert us into the finals '08 now...

If any of those blokes end up All Australian, B&F, captain AND premiership player, you can start talking like that pal. Until then, you have no leg to stand on.

I sincerely hope we find a way to keep Kingy on our list, not for his on-field input so much but because he could have a massive role to play in developing our young rucks. Your kids aren't going to develop themselves. They'll be so much better so much quicker if they have a senior teammate to guide them, coach them and teach them, and I can't see anyone on your list doing that with the rucks. Plus as he showed in the GF he's still an extremely useful on-field player while those youngsters are developing.

If I were you I'd be praying for King, and as soon as I had him I'd be dumping Cloke and Acland like a shot.

But that's just my opinion.

I agree King is better than Ackland, but Ackland is a short term ruck, and wil be phased out over of the next 12 months. King is 28-29yo, and won't be part of our future. I'd rather invest time into Hampson, Aisake, and Kruezer who will all be doing some second ruck duties in 2008, even if they're not as effective as King would be in 2008. We are a developing side, and so we don't need a short-term fix. King would be good for a side that has already peaked, and wants more output from their rucks for the next year or 2 e.g. Saints. :)

At the end of the day, King is a lot better than anyone else we'll put on the field until Hampson etc develop and would be a good teacher for the kids. I am nervous about leaving it up to Ackland and CLoke to mentor those blokes

If he doesn't get traded, do you think he'll get a game at Geelong next year? Surely they rate him highly enough to include him in the GF... why does everyone assume that he'll be dropped for Blake (who clearly is rated as inferior).

At the moment we have Hacland as our no1 ruck, do u want this guy teaching and leading a good bunch of ruckman coming through??????

I don't, King was an AA, he was a captain of an AFL team so has leadership qualities and is only 28 yo......Ruckman can play on until they are in their early 30's .....He looked great in the GF last year and would be instrumental in developing Aiaske and Hampson, I would love him at Carlton for a couple of years.....

We are screaming for leadership, we will have 3 new leaders next year, Judd, Stevo and King.......If u read SOS biography he says in '95 they had a about 10-11 leaders, how many do you think we have atm.....our captain can't even be disciplined enough to get his weight right.........

I say we get him!!!

Steven King's best is still pretty damn good and if he was able to get his body right, he could easily take it up to the Lade and Cox type ruckman.

I would be happy to offer him 1 year if he'd take it, or 2 if he insisted. He could play an important role in the developement of Aisake, Hammer and Kreuzer rather than be a poor example like Ackland.

He's not too happy at going to St Kilda. They got him for nothing too (pick #90 or something with another player).

The Saints seem like they are building up a nice collection of past their prime rucks in the last few years.. (will Gardiner play next yr?). I could say it's similar to our last few years in the PSD, but those guys never reached their prime.
