As far as I am concerned this is Waite's year to take that next step and become a star. He has the strength, speed and skill to be a great CHF. I will be really disappointed if he doesn't have a great year.

I really really really hope so. have been watching him closely since he's been drafted. He was promising at the start and showed signs of exploding in a few games along the track. Hopefully with the arrival of Judd and support from Fev he can breakthrough this year.

There is going to be no-one fighting him for the CHF position, so he is going to have 22 chances to do it.

Waite is not a natural defender, and I just hope we can use him in the forward half more. He's awesome at CHF and is going to get a heap of quality delivery with our talent-loaded midfield. :)

I don't want him to play like a true CHF, I would much prefer him use his athletic ability and get up the ground onto the wing like Riewoldt does.

He's much more suited to play up at CHF in that roaming type role. Has really teased up this year, so hopefully he can become a little more consistent next year.

Reckon his confidence has soared lately
ie. the dribble GOY.
Unfortunately it can still get him into trouble
ie. taking on 13 players at once whilst on a bouncing burst.
But that's what you get with brilliance
ie. Jared Brennan.
Sometimes it wins you games, sometimes it don't.

if carlton use o'hAilpin in the backline there will no longer be need for waite in defence and therefore should have a successful season playing in his natural position- the forward line.

If he is to play forward, he has to improve his goal-kicking big time. Take a leaf out of Fisher's book. The 2nd game against pt adel. this year Fisher probably played his best game.

We don't need him to be a star...Fev is our star up forward.

Waite's best is brilliant almost unstoppable however, his worst is bad and can go missing for large portions of the game.

What we need from him in 2008 is to bridge the gap between his best and worst and somehow find some consistent form, which he has been doing slowly

i know he's more suited to CHF of CHB, but i'd love to see him have a run on the wing. he's got the tank and the agility to roam about, even if its only for 10 minutes a quarter.

I noticed a subtle but definite change to his kicking technique in the last 2 games.

The flamboyant ball drop had gone and the right hand was more aligned and starting the drop from a lower point. The technique was very similar to that of Ratts himself, and he hit his target every time.

I hope this is a sign that Ratts is sucessful in teaching actual skills to players

Yeah Waite should do well, a consistent year is all it takes.

Throw in Gibbs, Setanta, Walker to pick up their level and have an impact.

I never rated him quite as highly as other Carlton supporters (don't get me wrong - a big fan [was my buddy player :)]), however, I feel some probably expected too much from him which will lead to disappoint. I've always taken a conservative approach with my expectations from Waite and was definitely surprised with his 07 season.I thought his 07 was very positive - not star quality, but was above average. He had an up and down first half of the year - was moved up forward mid-season and had a fantastic 6 weeks where he kicked 18 goals 10.

Towards the end of 07, he just seemed to development a presence about him - signs that he was growing in confidence. To me he's primed for a big year in 2008 (barring injury) - not the 1st time we've said that about Waite, but his 2007 season was genuinely promising. His best is star quality - as we saw when he kicked bags of goals up forward mid-season and also his job at CHB on Lucas, Riewoldt etc. His worst is borderline shocking - footskills let him down at times and he's gone missing up forward and also beaten by lesser players at times in defense. Some consistency in his game will take him a long way.

He has potential to be a very, very good player for us - and after his 2007 season, I expect him to go on to bigger and better things next.
