I have to say, I'm very excited about Mark Harvery being our coach. A premiership player that learned from the best; Kevin Sheedy. Looks like a real leader that you can see going the same way as Mark Thompson. I think there are exciting times ahead.

Couldn't be happier, I think we may finally have picked up a diamond.

Where have you been?

I've been excited about Harvey ever since the guy came over as an assistant! Not knocking CC but Harves is the type of coach we've craved since our inception :thumbsu: His seven weeks in charge showed he's got the skills and with a full preseason to implement his style of leadership, game plan etc...watch out!

Bring on 2008!

Premiers

2007 Cats - Bomber Thompson (Half Back)
2006 Weages - Woosher (Half Back)
2005 Swans - Roos (C half back)
2004 Port - Williams (Centre)
2001-3 Lions - Matthews (rover)
2000 Dons - Sheedy (Back Pocket)
1999 Roos - Pagan (Back pocket)

I can not tell you how happy I am to see a defender as coach.

I played as a defender in my later years and I really think it gives you a great appreciation of what is important.

Go Harves.

Just look what he has done for our defense from 05 to 06 there was a significant increase in quality and less mental errors. Hopefully he can do the same thing for the whole team.

Spot on Avid, I wanted the guy here when he was on that White Line Fever show. He said some very good things about us and you know he just has the mongrel to not accept mediocrity from players that should be doing better. Exactly what we need!

Combine that with IMO a stronger hold on the media than CC and we have a winner. Hope we have a bit of luck at the beginning of 2008 and we'll be off and running!

Getting led to the ball by a quality FORWARD will teach you a bit.:thumbsu:;)

The thing that interests me the most about the coaching issue is, are more people glad that CC is gone or Harvey in

In my case I was playing on the ball in a country league, I then moved to a much bigger town and found myself down back.

Seriously I then really appreciated the guys who worked back to help cover, I also understood a lot more to keep offering when the ball was coming out of the back half and finally how damaging you could be if you had a lazy forward who would not chase you. Nothing better than running free down the outer wing and not having a player within 30 m's.

;) you don't need to teach running forward for mids.

I really think the backline is a great learning spot as you suffer when the other side scores more than anyone.

Yes I am excited about Harvey! :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

I wasn't a CC hater by any means, but he really had our team under perform in '04, '05 and this year '07. We should have made the finals in all three of those years. He also seemed to play favourites. Guys would be able to have up to 5 or more average/bad games before they felt the pressure to be dropped. He seemed very re-active. His saving grace was he was a nice guy and it kept him around longer than he probably should have been.

Harvey on the other hand, won a lot of support from me for firstly saying in the Worst in the last week of the season how Des after coming back from injury was not an automatic starter in the team. He has to earn his spot like everyone else and that may mean coming back via WAFL. CC would never have done that with one of his 'stars'.

Secondly when Harvey dropped the infamous 'round 22 six' for various discipline reasons, that told me he wasn't gonna take no crap. The individual was not bigger than the team, and the wake up call for those guys we were missing is that with 1/4 of our team missing we were 4 points down at 3/4 time v Port. I dont think it would have played out much different with those guys in the team

Harvey seems to be unconcerned about reputations at the club. He seems uncompromising in his approach. He aint the salesman CC was, but we dont need that. We need wins, and I think he will get the players playing at their potential. With him and Wallis and Chris Scott(?) on the coaching team we'll have the toughest bunch of coaches in the league

I completely agree, most of the reason people were upset with CC wasn't because we didn't make the GF every year, it's just that to most people the team underperformed for half of CCs contract. Even in 04, I was fully supportive, but by the end of 2005 I was off his bandwagon.

For whatever reason (of which there are many proposed theories) he just couldn't get the players to play consistently enough for him. I like Harveys perceived hardness (I don't know him personally, but he comes across that way) and how he was willing to try multiple things during a game when something wasn't working (which I barely saw in the years with CC). So I am optimistic about 2008 given what I saw in 2007.
