Futurama is an Emmy Award-winning animated American sitcom created by Matt Groening, who also created The Simpsons, and developed by Groening and David X. Cohen for the Fox network. The series follows the adventures of a former New York City pizza delivery boy, Philip J. Fry, after he is accidentally cryonically frozen at midnight, January 1, 2000, and is revived one thousand years in the future.

In the United States, the series aired from March 28, 1999 to August 10, 2003 on FOX, although its timeslot was regularly interrupted and pre-empted by sports events, and eventually went out of production.

Fawlty Towers is a British sitcom made by the BBC and first broadcast on BBC2 in 1975. Only twelve episodes were produced, but the series has had a lasting and powerful influence on later shows.

The show is set in a fictional hotel Fawlty Towers in the Devon town of Torquay on the "English Riviera". The series was written by John Cleese and Connie Booth, both of whom played main characters, and was broadcast in two series: the first, in 1975, was produced and directed by John Howard Davies, and the second, in 1979, was produced by Douglas Argent and directed by Bob Spiers.

In a list of the 100 Greatest British Television Programmes drawn up by the British Film Institute in 2000, voted for by industry professionals, Fawlty Towers was placed first.[1] It was also voted fifth in the BBC's "Britain's Best Sitcom" poll in 2004.

A nice little montage if you can ignore the music.

If Fawlty Towers doesn't win over the remaining shows, just proves that todays viewing audiences have NFI.

The fact that three of the shows shouldn't even be in the finals is bad enough, plus two are animated. There should have been two sections, one for animated & one for shows with actors.

Does the fact a show is animated make it less of a comedy?

Does the fact a show is animated make it less of a comedy?

Probably not. But I think it holds a bit of an unfair advantage over a "live" sit-com, for obvious reasons

Yes agreed.

If people whinge about Futurama or The Simpsons because they're just animated shows, then it shows they are too out of it and have NFI. The Simpsons is cutting edge stuff, as is Futurama but not quite as good (ar at least as popular). Fawlty Towers is a classic, but to discount shows just because it's a cartoon is folly. No show has entertained such a wide audience, yet retained it's place as a smartly written sitcom than Simpsons at it's peak.
