Whatever happened to this brilliant alignment. I remember back in 2000 i went to many of their games and even bought a jumper (the old fitzroy one that is)
I know that Coburg had money problems and had to align with an AFL team but why couldnt they keep the Fitzroy name and jumper
i.e. they could still be called the Coburg Fitzroy Lions and have the Fitzroy jumper AND still be aligned with Richmond
Or alternatively why didnt Brisbane Lions step in and help them
Also are there any plans for a concept like this in the future?
like a team in the VFL or something similiar or another alignment with a VFL club?

I think you'll find Richmond demanded Coburg become the Tigers, Coburg needed the cash, so Fitzroy was casted adrift after 1 season.
Always hated Richmond and that sealed the deal. Love it when they can't win a game.

yeh i have always hated Richmond and will continue to hate them well into the future
Why do you hate them? Is it because they didn't want their VFL allignment to carry the name of a partly defunct rival club?
While I watch my team in the AFL, you can watch your team in the VAFA Division 4 or whatever they are in.
I'm trying not to troll but it seems a stupid reason to HATE a club.
Alot of people hate Richmond.
Gives me more reason to love em..**** off all you Richmond haters.

After watching some d***head supporters burn a Fitzroy jumper after the last game at the G it sold it for me, Richmond would only ever be thought of favourably when they were playing Collingwood... and then just barely...

Don't worry JDC, I don't hate your club 'cause of any probs the Tiggies may have had with the Coburg Lions connection. I've embraced the Brisbane Lions so you could say I've moved on from the demise of the Roys. But one thing I'll never lose is my utter contempt for the Tiggies. Simply, I, and a great many other former Roys supporters, detest your club because:
a. The Tiggies deliberately targeted, then raided, Fitzroy's player list in the early 1990's, right after their 'Save Our Skins' fundraising campaign. And to think I contributed - what an idiot!
b. Leon Daphne, Richmond head-honcho at the time, played a major role in scuttling the North-Fitzroy merger. He was sitting alongside Oakley, Brennan and Gordon when the merger with Brisbane was announced!
And then there's the Tiger 'faithful'. They are, by and large, the most fickle supprters of any in the AFL, full of invective and self hatred towards their club. Collingwood supporters put you lot to shame - they stick by their club through thick and thin.
As far as I'm concerned yours is the one club I trully wish would disappear from the face of the AFL.

To start with thanks for the SoS funds but thats where the kindness ends.
Wow you're right.
Record membership in a wooden spoon year.
Highest wooden spoon "winners" total game attendance in history.
We're top 4 in the attendance for Victorian clubs for the year if I remember correctly.
We had our third best all time attendance.
And you say we dont stick by our club through thick and thin. :o
Turn it up you bitter man.

That's where they lost me too. It was actually their club officials laughing at Fitzroy for playing kids like Jamie Elliott & Doc Wheildon in the seniors, then trying to poach them as soon as they proved they were any good. They not only tried to poach 1 or 2 players, they approached about a dozen!

Did Jamie Elliot play for Richmond? Yes. He was apparently approached by a Richmond official, while he was jogging near Brunswick St Oval, as part of a rehabilitation program for his injured shoulder. The players I'm talking about didn't all move to Richmond & I don't even know all the names, but I believe they included Wheildon, Hawking, Caven & Wynd.

Burning a Fitzroy Jumper, What Fkucing idiots. Richmond the club, that former Presidemt Dapne hleped kill Fitzroy, by scuttling the merger btw North and Fitzroy. Richmond the club with perhaps the worst record in the last 27 years.

Richmond Forever!
Jealousy doesn't enter into it & nothing against you guys personally, but I'd rather not have a team than barrack for Richmond.
I couldn't think of a team I could barrack for rather than the mighty Tigers.
A richmond captain invented the game ffs.
Jack Dyer!
Richmond forever mate!!!
and I couldn't care less if we won 5 spoons in the next5years.
I stick by em through thick and thin!
Both my uncles played for Fitzroy.
The one on my dads side played for the seniors so I really hAVE NOTHING AGAINST THE ROYS.
Don't tarnish the Richmond supporters with the same brush mate.
I'm born a Tiger and I'm staying a Tiger.

Does anyone know if Dyson Hore Lacy is still connected to FFC. Read the other day he has taken up a role with another ammo club?

That's how I feel about Fitzroy. Footy supporting means different things to different people, but this is the sort of loyalty & commitment that I respect in other supporters.

As far as I know he's still President of Fitzroy. He's also now President & Chairman of Selectors at Old Trinity. Another Royboy, Brett Chandler is coaching Old Trinity.

Thank's F.P. By the way I was just looking in Roar of the Lions and there was a cigarette card of Jimmy Freake, dead spit of Johnathan Brown. Uncanny.

I think in one year Richmond took Dundas, M Gale and Elliot. These three players were major cogs in out team at the time (especially since we had already lost most of our senior team). They also poached Broderick a year or two before. Looks like they are thick with this tradition - go down to Brighton beach in the early hours of the morning and you can see the Richmond board poaching abalone! It's their disease.
Just about every Fitzroy supporter i know detests them for this reason.
I was also p!ssed off when Fitzroy drafted Ben Holland and he knocked us back and stayed in Adelaide for the year only to come back to Melbourne the following year and ask to be traded to the Tigers....

I'd love to see Fitzroy join the VFL, could only happen if they joined forces with another club though. But it would be nuts if they managed to get into the league on their own.

Typical Tigers supporter would remember the result and conveiniently forget that you were playing a team that had already been given it's death sentence, the players were physically drained and mentally as well.
Then you go and forget Round 22 when you lost and missed the 8.
I thought that was brilliant and what your mob deserved.

Not bitter, just wish DC's like you and all the other Richmond people who visit our board would nick off. Always the most fickle of all supporters - spitting on players, ripping up membership cards etc...scum....
One of the few pleasures I get out of AFL since the Roys bit the dust is seeing Richmond get belted more often than not...

If you check here at this Richmond site they advertise a Restaurant called "The Wooden Spoon", how appropriate

Sad day when Fitzroy died and were merged with Brisbane, but in all it saved both teams IMO. Sure Fitzroy aint around but atleaST Brisbane still show the Lions colours at times.
And to answer someone who asked who we got from Fitzroy in the 1990's, the list is:
Jason Baldwin - joined 97 managed 2 games
Paul Broderick - joined 94 managed 169 games
Matthew Dundas - joined 94 managed 14 games
Jamie Elliott - joined 94 managed 9 games
Michael Gale - joined 94 managed 91 games
Matthew Manfield - joined 97 managed 6 games
Mark Trewella - joined 91 managed 4 games
In return we gave Fitzroy:
Jeff Hogg - went to Fitzroy in 1994, managed 40 games and kicked 41 goals.
Damn... Really though, we only got two good players out of that list, being Broderick and Gale, the rest never came to much.
Hogg only played those games because we had no one else.... The crew that used to go to the footy with all couldn't stand it.
OggOggOggOgg's 40 games wasn't worth a pinch of s**t to us when compared to one of the better on ballers of the era (broderick)

Fitzroy had a lot of great players go through them and end up at other clubs, if they had kept guys like Alastair Lynch, Paul Broderick, Michael Gale, Paul Roos, Gary Pert, Richard Osbourne and many more that actually had talent, they might have lasted for a couple more years yet but I think with most of them leaving between 1992 and 1994, Fitzroy just lost its edge and went to bankruptncy :(.
