View Full Version : Football Operations Manager
I have heard we are the only club with enough $$$ that doesn't have a Football Operations Manager.
What exactly do they do?
Would having one benefit the club?

We do...
And his duties are split over two people.
Travis Auld and David Calthorpe.

In short -
Auld looks after all the financial, contractual and TPP requirements.
Calthorpe looks after all the player requirements. Welfare, appearances etc.

calthorpe certainly looks after the appearance..is at the Melton Country Club when players do appearances there..its too bad he pays more attention to the free parma and chips than the players:)
Is it true last year Sheedy wanted Balme for the role and the board said no?

Auld knows what he`s on about. calthorpe can suck me dry. He has hopped from one job to the other, much like his football career. Suprise, suprise ,I`m not a fan.

Calthorpe, Dodoro, Barnes, Dimmattina anyone else I forgot to mention. I find it funny, absolutely hilarious, I mean these guys would be great clubman no doubt, but would these guys be at Geelong or an interstate team, or would Dick Pratt cash them up and convince them to go to Carlton. The list is getting a workout at the moment, maybe they should revisit the Football Department or whats left in it too. Only my opinion !!

Completely agree (except Dodoro).
It's embarrassing really for Essendon that John Barnes is involved down there.
Calthorpe not any better.

I agree. For all the financial clout and previous success, Essendon really needs to market itself better. From a sponsorship perspective, he have a reasonable basket of backers. However, it's nowhere near the caliber that Collingwood have.
Internal operations and marketing at Essendon really need a lot of work in order to compete in these very professional times. We're just treading water and not exercising any real clout.

Look cheap, sound cheap and probably have the jobs because they are cheap.
