The younger brother of fellow Port Adelaide player Peter Burgoyne and son of former Port Adelaide player Peter Burgoyne Snr., he made his AFL debut in 2002. He has previously been a steady contributor across the forward line for the Power, before becoming a rebounding defender to great effect.

After a series of scintillating midfield performances that culminated with selection to the All-Australian Team In 2006, he was described by retiring Port player Josh Francou as being "as good as Judd".

I had to be the first to post in this thread because this man is my favourite afl footballer.

Everytime he gets the ball he makes a damaging possession. give me 20 of his touches over 30 of pretty much any other player's touches in the afl. in terms of natural talent, this man leads the afl's midfielders, and with increased cardio workout, can become the greatest in terms of week in week out consistency (ie improving his disposal count, which this season from my viewing was low 20's at 100% efficiency)

I have to only partially agree Power King. Junior's my favourite player as well, and his touches are quality, BUT he's still struggling to break away from taggers. Maybe that is aerobic fitness, but it's what's stopping him taking his game to the next level.

natural talent, he is undoubtedly one of if not the best, 'natural talent' eg skills and what not, its evidenced everytime he gets the ball

only problem is shaking the tag, which like you and i both said could be aided with further fitness (not that he isn't already, but it can certainly be improved). this would put him from one of the most naturally talented, to outright leading the best midfielders in the afl.

Fantastic to watch play the game. Smooth, effortless and pure class.

I think he is also naturally a very aggressive player, gives out some great bumps but I also think after the Lenny Hayes "bump" last year he became very worried about what he can and cant do it that regard. At times he looked like he was caught in two minds about how to approach the contest.

Regarding his fitness, I tend to believe he wont ever become an elite level midfielder purely because of his fitness level. I dont think his fitness has much to do with his lack of effort, more so along the lines of he is an explosive athlete more so than say a conventional run all day type. Gary Ablett Snr was much the same.

Still young and could be anything at all. He has the football world at his feet IMO.

Shaun seems to really struggle with close attention to the point where at times he looks like he is sooking, that isn't cool and hopefully maturity and an increased awareness of what is required will see him become one of our greatest players.

Just love watching this guy play when he is up & running. The game he played against the West Coast Eagles at AAMI during the 2006 season was as good as it gets from anyone IMO. Just brilliant.
