"ALL heart" is how Buffaloes coach David Ross described last night's thrilling one-point victory against NTFL rivals Wanderers at TIO Stadium.

A goal from half forward Dion Grant in the final second snatched victory from the Eagles after a wayward last term from Darwin.

That victory, that finish was all heart," Ross said.

"A lot of things about the way we play can be improved on but they proved that this Buffs side still knows how to dig deep."

Darwin showed the attacking promise that was missing from its 99-point loss last week.

Forward Shaun Derschow capitalised on Darwin's very first surge forward, slotting a major in the first two minutes.

Wanderers first move into the forward 50m sawMark White notching the Eagles first.

A confused Buffaloes allowed Wanderers to hit back in the dying moments, cutting the deficit to five points.

Buffs' Nathan Grant was kneed in the head, requiring a trip to hospital.

A frenetic period immediately after the first break included goals to Darwin's Kalem Ronberg-Bray and Wanderers' Ben Aitchson.

The Eagles strung together the best phase of play for the match late in the first half.

Brilliant running from utility Mark-Lee Thompson turning boggy defence into an Adam Whitlam goal.

Wanderers hit-back after the major break, to take the lead 10 minutes into the third term.

A sea-sawing contest ensued into the final break with Wanderers leading by two points.

More twists were to follow with Darwin midfielder Liam Philpott giving up two 50m penalties, allowing the Eagles a seven-point lead with only four minutes to play.

Darwin youngsters Chris Laouris emerged to play a hand in the dying minutes to set up a dramatic Buffs win.
