View Full Version : 2nd Rounder Mids
The Royal Sampler
22 Oct 2007, 14:13
Obviously as my team's first pick is #31 this is of special interest to me, but there'll be plenty of clubs looking at mids with their second pick ;)
Let's say hypothetically that the likes of:
Cotchin
Morton
Masten
Ebert
Palmer
Veszpremi
Rioli
Selwood
Grimes
... all go in the first round. What order would you put the following in?
Marlon Motlop
Patrick McGinnity
Patrick Dangerfield
Callan Ward
Sam Reid
Andy Otten
Levi Greenwood
Mitch Farmer
Ryan Normington
Vez, Grimes, Selwood will be sliders and wont be taken until the 2nd round, a lot of KPP will be taken in the first round.

Grimes is one that could go anywhere between 10 and 35. Vez probably between 20 and 40

is that because Richmond have a priority pick at 18? Is that counted as first round?
Richmond's draft pick to start the second round is 19. 2nd round goes through to 35.
Bulldogs own pick 19. Richmond traded it.

Matt De Boer from Claremont has been spoken to by Collingwood.

I'd say he'd be getting considered with a later pick - Not surprising we've talked to him though.
With a full-time WA recruiter now we'll probably talk to a lot more WA boys.

When I read about the appointment of this recruiter the report said he would be full time, but splitting his time between WA and SA.
Know if this how it panned out ?

Nope - He ended up being full-time WA, AFAIK.

I wouldnt rule out someone taking him in the 30's.

Thats correct. Think WC would have preferred it if he spent more time on recruiting and less time spying at our training sessions.
He was at every one of our preseason sessions, taking very specific notes. We record all the sessions, I remember one day Suma yelled "hey Rossy, we'll just send you a copy of the tapes so you can have a sleep in". Neil just replied with a big thumbs up.

Pretty sure it's confirmed. He didn't even participate at DC apparently.

Its unusual but not a one off. Arrowsmith declined several overtures from clubs to nominate for the draft last year so he could complete Year 12.
He was probably fortunate footy wise that he finished the year off well otherwise it may have backfired on him.
Is De Boer a pretty good student?

I was a tad surprised when I heard about De Boer not nominating, because (correct me if I'm wrong), but don't you generally finish year 12 as a 17 year old in WA?

yeah you do macca
I think the lack of interest from the WA clubs might have swayed De Boer aswell.
Just an interesting piece of trivia, you know he's engaged to Lana who was on Australian idol this year. She went out in the first 3-4. Young girl with dark hair, quite pretty.

I agree, and that is exactly where I have him at the moment. Nice little footballer - very neat.

Bit of a surprise there.
Confirmation would be great.

Had exams so decided not to go.
Was tested at WA state screenings.

Sounds like a classic Collingwood "hideaway" job.

Maybe, but if he's played Colts and Champs, it's going to be pretty hard to hide him from the WA clubs.
I gather no-one is game to tackle the OP?

Won the Richardson Trophy for B&F at Claremont too, so IMO he's a certainty to be picked up - assuming that he wants to. I've heard nothing today to say he isn't nominating.

Me, but I don't think he's very pretty and I wouldn't think he's De Boer's type. :p
Reid has a remarkable work rate and really good hands in traffic. I'm a fan.

I only saw one game of McGinnity where he tagged Cotchin and did a very good job. Is McGinnity as genuine midfielder, or will he start as a tagger?

Here is the real deal.
It was his older brother who was engaged to the girl on Idol.
Matt has not nominated yet but may still do.
Neither WA club has spoken to him as yet,
although they would certainly be aware of him.
His main focus at the moment is his Yr 12 TEE exams.
He may be too academic for the eagles?

Bah, I'm really confused now. No point getting into this guys personal life on a forum, especially since you know him personally. Must have got my wires crossed, I heard it from 3 different people so I am trying to put it back together in my head.

She is one of my sister's good friends. I never realised she was engaged though! **** me that is way too young to be engaged.
She is pretty hot in a bottom draw kind of way.

why would you not nominate, all these boys that work there arse off to try and get to this level, then someone who is lucky enough to be at the level accredited to get you drafted and you give it up and dont nominate, thats crazy
