I reckon this is a great movie but for some reason it only has a rating of 5.3 over at IMDB.com. In general very funny and probably the birth of Will Ferrells career. Its a shame Jim Carey wasnt in the movie too. When he was playing the character on Saturday Night Live he had it down to a tee. Alot of good quotes came from that movie. My fav

Doug Butabi: So anyways, I was standing there waiting to use the pay phone.
Steve Butabi: Yeah, he was, seriously.
Doug Butabi: And this guy who was on the phone, turns around and tips his hat like this.
Steve Butabi: And who do you think that guy was?
Doug Butabi: Emilio Estevez.
Steve Butabi: The Mighty Duck man, I swear to God, I was there.
Doug Butabi: Of course you were, you were the one who yelled the Breakfast Clubber's name.
Steve Butabi: I was like, "Emilio."

Another great quote

Mr. Zadir: Dooey, did you just grab my ass?
Dooey: Sir, from where I'm standing, that's a physical impossibilty.
Mr. Zadir: Oh, I know your tricks, Dooey!

I still cant believe it only has a 5.3 on IMDB. Some people have no taste in comedy

Great movie

Doug Butabi: Why got out for a burger when you got steak at home?
Steve: Yes, we should go for lunch after this.

I am surprised to hear it rated so low at IMDB. It's a brilliant movie, very very funny. Has that other bloke been in any movies since? I would have thought he would have done a lot of other work but haven't noticed him. Obviously, Will Farrell has become a superstar since that flick.

I will never hear What Is Love without bobbing my head to the right ever again.

Love the scene when Steve has to unwrap his new diary to check if he's free.

Molly Shannon makes anything hilarious too.

imdb ratings are generally pretty decent - but there are many, many exceptions.

example - dumb and dumber has something ridiculous like 6.3 -

something widely regarded as one of the great comedies of all time - and one which set a standard other like comedies of modern times have been unable to match/replicate.

should easily be > 8.

I rate movies I've seen when I look them up on there and very few of those I rated have a '10' - but Dumb and Dumber is one of them.

I've seen it 1000 times now - so it has no serious comedic effect on me anymore - but I still appreciate its genius.

a flawless comedy really - and if you rate movies based on what they are - and what they aim to be - and how successful/close to the mark they get in attempting that - then Dumb and Dumber can in no possible way be given a low-rating.

And another example -

Goldmember -

one of the worst pieces of trash I've ever sat through. the first two were decent. the third? just terrible. absolutely terrible. nothing even remotely funny throughout the whole film.

if you laughed at anything - then you're purely and simply an idiot. unless you were laughing at just how pathetic the film was.

----

On topic though.....

A Night At The Roxbury is about a 6 or 7 for mine.

so a rating of about 6.5 would be much fairer/more accurate.

Some people dont like it because of the simplicity of its humor I guess. Would of been ten times better if Jim Carrey was in it as he originally was supposed to be but such is life
