View Full Version : Arden Streets Phantom Draft (First Round)

Arden Street
25 Oct 2007, 15:52
1. Matthew Kreuzer (Carlton)
Carlton decide to go for best available and pick Matthew Kreuzer. Not only will he add to Carltons ruck stocks, he may even be able to fill the gap left by Josh Kennedy at CHF.

Other players they may consider here are Cale Morton, Trent Cotchin.

2. Trent Cotchin (Richmond)
Richmond were tossing up between Trent Cotchin and Cale Morton, but they decided to go for Cotchin the best midfielder available in the draft. Cotchin should add depth to the tigers midfield and bring a lot of class aswell.

Other players they may consider here are Cale Morton and Rhys Palmer.

3. Rhys Palmer (West Coast)
With the departures of Chris Judd and Ben Cousins from the West Coast midfield they will be looking for a replacement for the future. West Coast select Rhys Palmer he is a ball magnet who loves to run and carry the ball and is capable of kicking goals.

Other players they may consider here are Trent Cotchin, Cale Morton, Chris Masten.

4. Cale Morton (Melbourne)
Melbourne go for Cale Morton the versatile youngster with a bright future ahead of him. Will probably start out his career as a wingman/flanker but may develop into a KPP as his body develops.

Other players they may consider are Rhyce Palmer, Lachlan Henderson, Brad Ebert, Chris Masten, David Myers, Ben McEvoy, Alex Rance, Pat Vezpremi.

5. Lachlan Henderson (Western Bulldogs)
Is argueably the best genuine KPP available. The Western Bulldogs will be delighted to get Lachlan Henderson at pick 5 because he suits their needs perfectly.

Other players they may consider are Cale Morton, Rhyce Palmer, Brad Ebert, Chris Masten, David Myers, Pat Vezpremi, Alex Rance, David Gourdis, Jarrad Grant

6. Brad Ebert (Essendon)
It will be interesting to see if Essendon go for a midfielder or a KPD here.. only time will tell i quess. My guess is they will take Brad Ebert a strong bodied midfielder, with good skills, leadership qualities and is capable overhead.

Other players they may consider here are Rhys Palmer, Lachlan Henderson, Chris Masten, David Myers, Pat Vezpremi, Tom Collier, Alex Rance, Cyrill Rioli, David Gourdis

7. Chris Masten (Fremantle)
I think Fremantle will probably go for a midfielder with Pick 7. Chris Masten is a ball magnet who has great endurance, work rate and leadership skills.

Other players they may consider are Rhys Palmer, Brad Ebert, David Myers, Pat Vezpremi, Alex Rance, Cyrill Rioli, David Gourdis.

8. David Myers (Brisbane)
They probably need a KPD here but may just go for best available like last year. With the retirements of Chris Johnson and Chris Scott, David Myers might be a good selection here. He is a medium defeder/wingman who would be well suited to a quarter back role.

Other players they may consider here are Brad Ebert, Chris Masten, Ben McEvoy, Pat Vezpremi, Tom Collier, Alex Rance, Cyrill Rioli, David Gourdis.

9. Ben McEvoy (StKilda)
Although StKilda have recently drafted Steven King as a quick fix ruckman, they ideally need a young up and coming ruckman for the future. Ben McEvoy could be the man.. he is a ruckman who is a strong mark and is good around the ground and he is also capable of playing forward and kicking goals.

Other players they may consider here are Lachlan Henderson, Brad Ebert, Chris Masten, David Myers, Ben McEvoy, Pat Vezpremi, Tom Collier, Alex Rance, Cyrill Rioli, David Gourdis.

10. Patrick Vezpremi (Adelaide)
With Adelaides ageing list and with players such as Andrew McLeod, Tyson Edwards and Simon Goodwin coming towards the end of their careers it suggests to me the Adelaide will be looking to find replacements for these players. I think Pat Vezpremi would be a good fit. He is a utility who can play forward/back/ or midfield he is hard at the ball has reasonable pace and is a long kick of the footy.

Other players they may consider here are Lachlan Henderson, Brad Ebert, Chris Masten, David Myers, Ben McEvoy, Tom Collier, Alex Rance, Cyrill Rioli, David Gourdis.

11. Tom Collier (Sydney)
I think Tom Collier would be a good fit for Sydney. Collier showed great form in the VFL and at the the championships this year then he was struck down with injury for the rest of the year. Although some people are questioning if he will make it as a KPD at 192cm, i think he could develop into a good player and play a role similar to Matthew Scarlett.

Other players they may consider here are Chris Masten, David Myers, Ben McEvoy, Pat Vezpremi, Alex Rance, Cyrill Rioli, David Gourdis.

12. Alex Rance (Hawthorn)
A full-back, CHB prospect who would fit Hawthorns needs perfectly.

Other players they may consider here are Chris Masten, David Myers, Ben McEvoy, Pat Vezpremi, Tom Collier, Cyrill Rioli, David Gourdis.

13. Cyrill Rioli (West Coast)
He would be an ideal fit for West Coast. When he develops he could play a role in the midfield or as a small crumbing forward.

Other players they may consider here are Chris Masten, David Myers, Pat Vezpremi, Ben McEvoy, Tom Collier, Alex Rance, David Gourdis.

14. David Gourdis (Melbourne)
Melbourne decide to go for A KPP in David Gourdis with their second pick. He can play as a KPF or KPD he is very athletic and has good pace of the mark.

Other players they may consider here are Ben McEvoy, Pat Vezpremi, Tom Collier, Alex Rance, Cyrill Rioli, Jarrad Grant, Jack Grimes, Scott Selwood.

15. Jarrad Grant (Kangaroos)
The Kangaroos will be hoping a KPP or a quality midfielder slide to their first pick. Jarrad Grant although he is not genuine KP size at 191cm he could provide an option both up forward or down back for the Kangaroos.

Other players they may consider here are Pat Vezpremi, Tom Collier, Alex Rance, Cyrill Rioli, David Gourdis, Jack Grimes, Scott Selwood.

16. Jack Grimes (Port Adelaide)
Medium midfielder/defender, he would be a good pick up for Port Adelaide.

Other players players they may consider here are Cyrill Rioli, David Gourdis, Jarrad Grant, Scott Selwood, Adam Maric,Tayte Pears, Sam Reid, Robbie Tarrant, Patrick McGinnity.

17. Scott Selwood (Geelong)
May join his brother at geelong, will probably start his career as a tagging type of player.

Others they may consider here are Cyrill Rioli, Jarrad Grant, Jack Grimes, Adam Maric, Tayte Pears, Sam Reid, Patrick McGinnity.

I based my selections on the four matches i watched at the championships and stuff that i have read about the players.. so go easy on me..;):p:D

That's a pretty good effort in my view :thumbsu:
Would love to get Collier for our first pick, sounds like the type of player that will fit in very well with us.

Cats priorities are key position backmen or a developing ruckman. I think our first pick will be either a Rance/Pears/Grant type or the best available ruckman which may be Bellchambers.

I would think the romantic notion of Selwood joining his brother would only come into calculation if he was available with our second pick.

Definitely needs a second round, Arden Street. :D

Are we meant to guess the other two?

At a guess I would say they would be Cotchin to the tigers and Morton to WC.

I'll release mine once I'm happy with it.

No, I don't have WC taking Morton.

How so?

I rate Cale but don't particularly feel he's what we need at the moment. I go for best available & how I have it at the moment, he isnt.

For sure. We have to pick the best KPP available at number 11. He would be a great get.

I have so much more respect for someone who has a crack at predicting something out of the blue - Even if they get it wrong - Than people who pretty much serve up the same thing that you could see anywhere.

Great effort!

Top 10 is pretty spot IMO.

10-20 a few so-so picks Collier, Selwood, Gourdis probably all 2nd Round picks.

Notte, Dangerfield, Maric are more likely to go in the 1st Round instead.

I'd say he has Cotchin at 2 and either McEvoy or Henderson at 3.

If we're going to guess what sinepari has I'll go with 1) Kreuzer 2) Cotchin 3) debating between Masten and Morton.

Palmer is more an outside mid/shark/opportunist who has the ability to win his own ball when required...would think he would complement your Jones', Mclean's and McDonalds nicely and be quite handy on the end of their ball extraction.

Palmer to the Eagles rather than Cotchin or Morton (the most popular selections in other "phantom drafts"). Interesting !

While it would ultimately be a surprise if we overlooked Cotchiin (if available), it's no surprise that they are interested in Palmer. It's been well documented for some time.

Looks like we are about to hit phantom draft season.

We had so many last year they needed to be put all in one thread because the D &T board was full of them.

We should have a comp to see who gets closest to the mark. Award points for right team, getting within a certain range of the eventual pick. That sort of thing.
