ok, well yes im a female, but what im really getting p'd off about is all these women kicking up a stink about "male only clubs" and male only this and male only that. The amount fo times i have driven past Female only places is beyond a joke, yet they seem to think its ok for everything to be female only but men cant have anything to themselves.

Its so irritating.

Do you have an instance that this type of action has happened to you personally?

I salute you vanders. I thought I was the only one that thought this was all getting out of hand.

He is something that will irritate you even more.

I know of a women's only golf club - (women Board members etc.,) and some men took it to the Courts and the men lost.

Girls are allowed to join boy scouts but boys aren't allowed to join girl guides. It's fair enough that some girls are more comfortable without boys around, but isn't is also true, especially at that age that some boys are more comfortable without girls around.
It's rather annoying, and difficult to know where to draw the line. Males and females should both be allowed to have sporting and support type groups that don't have the pressure of the opposite sex. At the same time, there are some clubs that have been mens only that don't have a female equivelant.
It's also rediculous to segregate all of these sorts of clubs, that'd be taking about 100 steps back in progress.

It'd be nice if people could use some of that good old common sense for once. Problem is, I've never seen this mythical quality in action.

It's probably symbolic of the death-throes of modern feminism, which initally was purporting in its heyday to tackle the great inequalites that women were burdened with in society such as income inequality and sexual abuse against women being treated with the seriousness it deserved. Hence, it gained a significant following amongst a large segment of the female population in countries like Australia.

Now feminism seems to be obsessed with 'issues' such as this and how many women should be CEO's of major corporations; issues that 0.1111% of women care about.

The answer to 'Male Only' clubs is to create 'Female Only' clubs.

In the case of the luxury mens clubs women are coming and saying "We want a piece of that, though it has been you men, and your fathers and their fathers who have built this place."

If a mens club votes and opens its doors to women, great! Change and progress forward. But if the men do not want to let women in then the women can go and start their own club. Which they do.

Everything should be bi-sexual and racial free. Equal men and women in politics and on the footy field along with proportional representation for each race ie a chinese person in each team, indian, afghan etc. No more male and female toilets (let women learn to use the troughs), equal male and female boxers/wrestlers/bouncers (women make good bouncers)/ waitresses/hairdressers/masseurs/ mothers/dentists/synchronised swimmers etc.
Bigfooty should not allow male posting until an equal number of women have poted. Mrs Bluey should be an administrator and Bluey should do his fair share of the dishes at home.

If you look at it closely men are actually more discriminated against than women. There are women only gyms, it is much more difficult for a man to make a sexual harrasment case than a woman, women get lighter jail sentences. In a perfect world everyone should go everywhere and sex is not an issue when deciding anything including jail sentences of young mothers.

It's not so simple.

If there is only one golf club in a country town it shouldn't be for one gender only.

If there is a club where influential people meet to discuss public affairs then it should not be gender (or anything) specific.

If it is something where control of something assumed to be a public asset then there should be no memebership restrictions.

I guess I just legislated away the MCC and AFL reserves at the mcg.

When you think about it they are a joke too.

Manly-Warringah Soccer Association in Sydney has decided to allow boys to play in "Girls" soccer teams up to the age of Under-12. They decided that because girls can play in boys team up to that age, they had to reciprocate.

I agree partly with what people said, I agree that if men are allowed into a club so should women but I do not agree that it is 'out-of-hand' it's freakin' progress! I'm sick of damn conservatives! The only difference between the sexes is biological and so it should be, rather than social differences.

Not personally, but it upsets me. The Fernwood chain of gymnasiums decided to revoke all male memberships of my local gym immediately, with no pro-rata compensation. No research was undertaken to see how they would feel - bad luck fellas, rack off.

Imagine if the boot were on the other foot and your local unisex gym decided that ladies were no longer admitted. The owners would (quite rightly) be charged against the anti-discrimination laws and the place would be shut down before it even got to court by picket action.

Yeah and I'll bet that Pru Goward will be right behind that little push. That person (I was going to use another word it describe her) is supposed to be the Prime Minister's adviser on Sexual Discrimination (or Commissioner, whatever), and she seems to have a particular attitude that its the women getting the short end of the pineapple.

Have I missed anything, because I can't recall her once discussing discrimination against men?Originally posted by madboy

What was the reason the men lost?

I have heard of a similar case, but the reason the men lost was because there was only one shower room available...

and while all the talk was about equal opportunity... I don't think it extended to the point of having equal opportunity to see members of the other sex naked

(although I am sure this was a huge disapointment for quite a few members and potential members of that particular gym)

Guys, have a read of 'Manhood' by Steve Biddulph (an Aussie).

Good stuff mainly.

A lot of commentary on 'the Men's Movement'.

A couple of observations about the fact that advertising is generally anti-male (the man in the ad is always made the butt of the joke) due to the fact that women make a lot of the buying decisions, and the fact that before the industrial revolution men worked in or near their home. At the onset of the industrial revolution factories had a lot of trouble getting men to work normal hours. At first men kept hours like they did when they worked in or near their homes. Long lunch hours, took Mondays off if the mood took them.

Nowadays men have to travel far from their homes to work and females have stepped in to claim the home as their domain. Leaving for work while their kids are asleep or rushing to get ready for school, and returning when their kids are asleep, men became estranged from their children and generally detached from the home.

So they started their own clubs. Their occupational guildhalls became men's clubs. Their sporting clubs became male only. Home away from home.

When men are generally 'repatriated' into the home I think their will be fewer mens clubs. But this ain't likely to happen in my lifetime. Or maybe it will with the rise in part-time work, telecommuting etc. But then again only intellectual workers (writers, programmers etc) get the benefits of working from home. I dunno.

Funny that. Manual workers like butchers and bakers used to be the ones working from home while the solicitors and accountants went out to the offices. Now manual workers are out of the home and maybe white collar workers will move back in.

some people have such petty lives as that they care whether its chair****ingperson or chairman, now that really really annoys me!

I really don't see a problem with changing the name of a title that refers to someone in a position. Chairperson instead of chairman is cool.

What drives me nuts is the feminists who need to go around changing anything with 'man' in it. An example of this would be changing 'manhole' to 'access cover'.. I mean, what has that got to do with making anyones lives better? There must more important things to worry about

I know that their was a court case a couple of years back were a club defended it's male only policy by challenging the female judge to also declare women only gyms and clubs illegal and discriminatory as well. The judge wouldn't and the club won. The whole problem is the women who challenge don't actually won't to be members they just want to rock the boat.

Bluey, can't say I liked this very much.....it was "you men, and your fathers and your fathers" who built the places BECAUSE women didn't have a say in the good old days when all the big established men's clubs were built! :)

Slax, oh you poor buggar! Sorry, that's the only thing I could come up with amidst all my laughter! ;)

And with all that said.....I don't care for Ferwood Women's Gym as it cost's WAY TOO much for membership.... I can handle uni-sex gyms where men ogle my goodies ( :p ) if it means $150 less for a membership per year...... JUST GIVE US SAME PRICED HAIR CUTS AND I'LL BE HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

And now I'd just like to quote the Mum from 'Mary Poppins', just to get up everyone's noses:

"VOTE FOR WOMEN!"

:D :D :D :D

Pity that 'man' in 'chairman' actually comes from the latin for 'manager'. Or are we going to change that to 'personager'?

Nah it sounds like it would be a good read if you are into the male movement or female movement, good factual evidence to back up his opinions.
