If this is how our season turns out then we will finish the H&A season with 14 wins and 8 losses. This would surely be enough to cement us a place in the top four.
What are your predictions for next year? Do you think that I am giving the Swans too much credit, or maybe not enough?

1 Saturday, Mar 22 (Sat Night) St. Kilda Telstra Dome Away 7:10 pm L (I think we'll have another slow sluggish start... Schneider to kick 3 goals on us)
2 Sunday, Mar 30 (Sun Early) Port Adelaide SCG Home 1:10 pm L (Last time we played them in the early rounds of the season, we were well beaten)
3 Saturday, Apr 05 (Sat Night) Brisbane Lions Gabba Away 6:10 pm W (We have a pretty good record against them)
4 Saturday, Apr 12 (Sat Night) West Coast Telstra Stadium Home 7:10 pm W (No Judd, Cousin, Chick but in saying that, they still beat us when their key players ere out injured but i think Swans can do it)
5 Saturday, Apr 19 (Sat Aft) Geelong Skilled Stadium Away 2:10 pm L (enough said)
6 Sunday, Apr 27 (Sun Aft) Kangaroos Telstra Dome Away 2:10 pm W (last time we played, the Roos were simply too good, but Swans have learnt their lesson)
7 Sunday, May 04 (Sun Early) Western Bulldogs SCG Home 1:10 pm W (I think we'll win quite comfortably; we've got a pretty good record at home on Sunday arvos)
8 Sunday, May 18 (Sun Aft) Essendon Telstra Stadium Home 2:10 pm W
9 Saturday, May 24 (Sat Aft) Port Adelaide AAMI Stadium Away 2:40 pm W (could be a tight game... 50/50 IMO)
10 Sunday, Jun 01 (Sun Early) Richmond SCG Home 1:10 pm W
11 Saturday, Jun 07 (Sat Night) West Coast Subiaco Away 5:40 pm W (Its our turn to beat them twice in a row :))
12 Saturday, Jun 14 (Sat Night) St. Kilda SCG Home 7:10 pm L (they have a good record at the SCG recently)
13 Sunday, Jun 22 (Sun Early) Melbourne Manuka Oval Away 1:10 pm W
14 Saturday, Jul 05 (Sat Night) Collingwood TelstraStadium Home 7:10 pm L (Can't see us beating them)
15 Sunday, Jul 13 (Sun Early) Hawthorn MCG Away 1:10 pm W
16 Sunday, Jul 20 (Sun Early) Carlton Telstra Dome Away 1:10 pm W
17 Saturday, Jul 26 (Sat Night) Adelaide SCG Home 7:10 pm L (enough said! :p)

I can't see us losing to Port Adelaide at home, even if it is early in the season. They seem to have trouble against tough teams like us and Adelaide. Other then that I agree with your predictions.

It was a tough one to make and I had second thoughts about that one. But I penciled that one as a loss as I feel for another Swans sluggish start.

We played Port in round 8 this year at the SCG and beat them by 30 odd.

If you're playing good footy, the draw really doesn't matter. It's a tough start to the year but we have a good run home. I expect us to push for a top 4 spot next year. With some luck, this is achievable.

All losses at Telstra.
Gosh, don't make me suffer again :(
I think we can do it, even against the better teams. We gave Geelong a pretty good scare this year, we lost against WC by a combines 13 points, we bet Port Adelaide. If everyone just hitches up their pants and goes "Right." We'll be fine :)
Anyone see us breaking the Crows hoodoo?

i think its a good chance sydney might drop the first 5 games..
If we start like we have in recent years then theres everychance, but WC are down, i reckon worst case is 1 win, 5 loses..
Ha wouldnt that be great.. not..
And i only really paid attention to the draw today, how is it we play Port, WC, Saints, twice with the first half of the season.. Talk about rigged..

Your expecting a pretty good return on your home games hey. You reckon Geelong is the only team who'll get over you up there?

sort of, but your forgeting about, Collingwood, Adelaide, & St Kilda aswell, all of which have a habit of spoiling the party..

Well, we struggle when we play Adelaide (anywhere), and we haven't looked like beating Collingwood at Telstra stadium for a while now. West Coast games are usually close and my guess is that with all the crap they have to put up with in the summer, they will be fair fired up and doing well in the first half of the season.
So we can easily lose 4 games at home.
The competition is a lot more even now, and I really do think it's going to be tough every week next year.

it's very difficult to make a prediction this off-season.....we're going into 2008 as a bit of a mystery, whereas the past few seasons everyone has sorta known what to expect from us, including we as fans
but this time there's been changes, there's a feeling we're going to be seeing a few new faces in the team, at the expense of a few stalwarts (and the blokes who've already gone), there's hints that maybe roos will be making some changes to our style, and going through the draw i find it difficult to confidently predict ANY results
if we can finish on 12 or 13 wins, and be up there vying for top eight spots, i'll be happy on the proviso we do it with a new-look team boasting some of these new kids
if we don't make the changes i've been advocating for a month, i seriously worry that we'll struggle to break even at 11-11, and i doubt that'll get us into the eight

I agree that it's achievable, however there are many elements that will dictate how our season begins and ends, not least, injuries, recruits and overall performance (considering roosy is changing our game plan with respect to run)...all things being equal we will make the eight and from there we HAVE the potential to do extremely well and let's hope the best is yet to come!
I'd take two wins and no injures in the first month quite happily. Anything over that would be a bonus.
All the Telstra games look like the highlights at home for us this year. The only cracking SCG game looks like the Saints.
But I would love...seriously LOVE to finally get a win over the crows for once this year. :thumbsu:

yes, it'd be nice to beat the crows, i can't remember when we last did
as for telstra stadium, i do believe our long-term future lies there, if nothing else just for the dimensions of the playing arena and for the crowd capacity, i don't like the way the games get cramped up at the scg and i think it's partly why we've evolved into a largely stop-start team (don't use that word "tempo")
i love watching games at TS, although now living down here in melbourne, that's not an option much these days
i believe c'wood will be our measuring stick team in 08 ... they were the team that hurt us the most this season, as far as i saw it, and as i rate them genuine flag contenders next season, and we get two shots at them, i think our fate in those games against the pies will be a good gauge of our progress and standing

I don't really like the telstra stadium, maybe its just me but it seems it never quite generates the atmosphere that the SCG does.
LOL, i've come to hate the word tempo in recent years, commentators over-use it and then its just blown out of context by everyone else. It is time for us to speed up our game, and get rid of that god awful word.
Collingwood wowed me in 2007, and as I was at the game in round 12 (unfortunately) i saw a geelong-esque attacking style in them. With all their young players ready and firing, they are going to be a huge hurdle for us, or anyone to get past.
collingwood, collingwood, collingwood... i hate em..
look, the way i see it, is that they beat us at our own game..
they had intensity all game long, were tackling hard, and more importantly made them stick, were hard at it in contested possesions, and generally wore us down.. sound familiar?
they play well as a unit, and thats their strength..we lift our work rate, and intensity and were on par if not ahead.. im tipping we cream em twice, and then send them on their way out of September..
Eddie your a stooge..

Yeah, some key players did retire but their younger team is much more worrying..
Are we facing a Collingwood era? I hope not, I can't stand Eddie as he is already :p

better get used to it, unfortunately....i DO think they, more than geelong, will be the team to beat over the next 2-3 seasons.....
as for the post about them beating us at our own game, that's probly the expression i MOST hate to hear or read when the swans are beaten in a game
because certainly in the melb media, it refers almost without fail to a dour, dull, low-scoring game, and i feel that's largely unfair to us
but the fact remains that c'wood WERE more intense than us, which in the case of our losses to them in 07 was an indication more of how we've declined than anything else
and is why i use the pies as the yardstick
if we don't make changes, in terms of both personnel AND style, we will simply be cannon fodder for the better teams....

fair call on cannon fodder i reckon, especially in the immediate future.. hopefully with the new faces around, and getting more game time into the young guys we can prevent it..
As much as id hate to admit it theyre got a bright future ahead of them too, and im not looking forward to it..
On getting beat at our own game, who cares how the media perceves us, theyre never nice to us anyway.. its just the brand of footy it takes to beat us. Other teams have to dig in, get tough around the stopages, tackle hard, play one on one, and its an intense style of game.. As you pointed out its a good indication of how we have declined, and more importantly how important it is to get it back..
