Just wanting to know who you all think is going to be Australia next spin player. Warne bein the best player we have have had.
MacGill will play for Australia for maybe the next 2 years.
But after he goes, who is going to be the next spin bowler to step up

Currently Australia's spin stocks are absolutely deplorable. I thought the Cullen's might bring something to the table but Dan's gone backwards and Bailey has done nothing special. The only spinner in this country who has done something is Aaron Heal and TBH I can't really see him ripping International batting lineups apart.

Not only because he is the next best after Macgill but also because he is oviously a very good looking young man.
Also Dan Doran has something. Prolly gets more turn than anyone apart from Macgill so he has something to work with. Is underbowled at QLd.

Me! :p
I'm an alright leggie. Can turn the ball a fair bit.
These young bucks, all these Callums and nondescript SA spinsters are all ordinary. Stuey will be all right but Warne leaves a void in this department, unsurprisingly.

i doubt he will still have a cricket career in 2 years.
We don't have a spin king in our system at the moment.
We have blokes that MAY improve enough to play test cricket, but there are no spinners capable of filling a quarter of the void left by Warnie.
MacGill will play this summer, but is a shadow of his former self and will get murdered by Sri Lankans and Indians.
This will create an opportunity for a young spinner to be given an opportunity next summer... if none present then Roy and Pup may temporarily get the gig and Watson may provide additional bowling depth.
Out of the current bowling stock I'd favour Aaron Heal ATM, but he is only the best of a very inconsistent bunch.

Chris Simpson for ODI but not for tests.
It will be a while before we get another brilliant spin bowler.
In our history we only have about 3 brilliant spinners in Warne, O'Reilly and Grimmett.
Instead of looking for the next Warne when we don't have atm, we should search for the next Benaud

GB Hogg is looking good, he might even be a selection!!

I think Heal will be Australia's next long term spinner but not a spin king.

nobody has shown the potential.
Heal look slike he may be a 100 wicket+ bowler.
Apart from him the stocks are thin

Be a big stretch to call Hogg a spin king in the class of Warne. Not even Hogg's mother would go that far

Not sure, I still think Bailey is the one.

No one, no one will be able to be the Spin King like Warne.
MacGill is the closest to a Spin King we will get.
Cullen Bailey is too young, Dan Cullen is over-rated, had one good season and was played prematurely in the Aussie team.

Great post.
I also agree with Likka that MacGill despite being a shadow of his former self is still the stand-out spinner in Australia.

After MacGill and Hogg have had their fun, Cullen Bailey will be ready to step into the Aussie team in about 2 years.

Hoggy will be around for another 4 or 5 years. He still beats everyone in the australian team in the beep test.
Good enough for me!!!
top bloke too :thumbsu:

He was my vote until he left WA to a team with Stuart Macgill in it. What a dumb move.
There are no Warne replacements, and probably never will be. Heal is showing a bit tho.

Ive got a left field selection for "next spin king" - David Warner! He is rookie listed NSW player, played a couple of one dayers last season and spun the ball a long way! Not a bad bat either. Is 21 blonde and gets into a bit of trouble (suspended from Aus acadamy earlier this year) remind you of anyone?

Absolutely SPOT ON.
Considering we probably won't have another as good as Warne while all of us on here are still alive, we need to lower our expectations a bit.
MacGill and Hogg are great bowlers, but after that it falls away very sharply.
I'm happy saying that Dan Cullen would get the mother of all pastings if he played against Sri Lanka, Pakistan or India, and there are no others that fill me with joy coming up either.
Let's hope someone makes a big breakthrough soon...

why is most of ya's all doom & gloom on our future tweaker prospects. One of our prospects is gonna be an utter gun real soon or when given the oportunity for Oz. There is nothing more sure.
The way i see it is......Panesar averages 30.80 in test cricket. If the poms can produce a spinner with that average (remember its the poms we are talking about here) then we will naturally produce better.
Us Aussie's are just more naturally tallented at cricket, its in our blood.....so just remember..............
- Nature vs Nurture......nature always wins ;)
So dont worry.....whatever spinner it may be will reveal himself soon enough.

Certainly not either of the SA lads.

I think it's pretty clear that Australia need to be patient with their younger spinners. A top quality wrist spinner may be top of the wanted list but someone like Aaron Heal shouldn't be overlooked if the numbers are there in domestic cricket.

Michael Munday of Glenelg looks a good prospect, but then he is English ;).

That about wraps it up for Phil Jaques then!

We have been brainwashing him since birth on our land. He is so brainwashed that his blood has actully turned into about umm say 3rd generation aussie. ;)
