Who are going to be the big improvers at the Lions in 2008? I reckon Anthony Corrie is going to step up. Leuenberger should continue to get better too. Dan Merrett i think will be one of our top 3 most important players especially if he can improve on his 07 form. Joel MacDonald is another one who i reckon is going to have a big season. Never really thought much of him as a footballer but he has changed my mind this year. JB will hopefully be better with his first full preseason in years (touch wood:o). Bradshaw couldn't have a worse season than this year. Probably coz he didn't play a game. Stiller and rischitelli willl hpopefully make more improvements, but i reckon the biggest improver will be Troy Selwood.

thoughts?

I was just about to ask this very question after reading Quig's maginficant work. :thumbsu:

And I had Corrie in mind as well. I reckon he could be a real gun in the midfield for the Lions if he gets a full pre-season in him.

The big improvers for mine:

Corrie
Clark
Begley
Sherman
Sheldon (will play in the seniors next year)

Sheldon is the main one i forgot. I reckon he's going to be a very good player for us.

Corrie and Brennan.

Followed by J Mcdonald and Troy Selwood.

Got a feeling that Brennan is on the verge. His second half of the year was better than it looks.

Clark is my tip for next years big improver, if they can get his body right like they did with Brown this year he will play 20+ games and kick 35+ goals IMO

JMac for me. I think he'll be ready to step and play inside mid full time next season. That will free up his spot in defence for sherman to step into.

There are so many good players that could be in our best 22 next season, I am very excited.

Personally i am not saying anyone will be big improvers because I would rather the whole team improve together and make the finals!!!

Can't wait to see Bunno get back to the sort of condition he was in before his back injury felled him.

Travis Johnstone bud. Never too late to improve.

Saw him stumbling around blind drunk on the weekend...didn't exactly lift my hopes.

Agree with most on Corrie...seemed to step back into AFL footy seamlessly last year. A good preseason and be great to see him tearing up the wing.

He's on holiday.

Granted, but given that most of my Melbourne-supporting mates weren’t crushed to see him go because of his off-field attitude (regularly spotted out ‘til all hours and whatnot), I was quietly hoping he would change his spots and set out right away to prove his old club wrong for trading him.

I’m not suggesting he won’t/can’t - I’m simply saying that watching him almost get run over by a cab as he stumbles along the middle of the street doesn’t lift my hopes that that’s gonna happen.

You don’t have to agree with me…they’re my hopes after all. ;)

I’ve still got my fingers crossed for next season.

I’ll put my money on Hooper being the big improver next year.

I think Clark will be the big improver injury has clouded his ability/potential the kid has the attributes to be a beauty.

I also think Charman will have a better year also, he was good but down a little on his 06 form.

Corrie, Sherman and Hooper will also improve.

Apart from the constant hope that Brennan will take mark of the century, my tip is 'Watt' Tyler. And maybe Colm ...

Lukey Power will have a better season,2007 was not one of his best...

There's probably good reason to list a whole bunch of players and why they'll improve next season.

I'll just make a note about fitness: at the start of 2007 we were still paying the price for many serious injuries in 2006 so that many players had limited preseasons.

In fact, of our 46 players, only 29 were available to play in the intra-club. Of the 17 that missed, I would rate 10 of them (Bradshaw, Brennan, Brown, Clark, Drummond, Hooper, Lappin, Macdonald, Roe and Selwood) as 'best 22' players. Entering 2008, it's looking a bit better at the moment (touch wood) with I think Bradshaw and Garner the only players who'll have limited preparations.

I think an overall improvement in our fitness and natural development of young players will really take us places next year.

Sorry Grim, don't rate Harding at all; think he should be delisted to take another player in the draft

A guy who runs 2.79 sec over 20 mtr and was ranked number one between for a few rounds in the entire league through scores from clearance deserves perserverence. :)

Plenty to like with Harding.

Fast, balanced, explosive... and has proven at AFLQ that he can find the ball and also kick a goal.

Club would be crazy not to keep persevering with him.

what the ?
there is plenty to like about Harding!

Speedy, strong, and superb! One of the strongest guys on the lions list (and no, not just for his size)!

I predict another lions fab 4 dominance in the mid next year:
Adcock
Johnstone
Black
HARDING

Jamie Charman - hopefully fully fit and play all 22 games would be nice and if so will go close to AA.

ive always liked him too. just needs to get some consistency about his endeavour and hardness at the footy. sometimes looks strong bodied and hungry, other times looks flakey and indifferent.

Fair enough, and he certainly isn't guaranteed of a long successful future at this stage. But I see a big upside to his game and while he does have a number of areas that need improvement (in particular his endurance), I see them as being fixable.

So lets hope you're wrong.;)

I agree in part, i dont think he should be delisted however I dont think he will reach the potential he may have and thus never be more than a fringe player.

Hope I am wrong.
