Anyone else recieve the renewal pack - the good thing is the membership card comes with the form, however the pen included is tacky and piss poor marketing.
Judging from the mailout, all members over 15 will get a free Tie. They still don't get it...

Are they going to send us some decent ****ing stickers that don't fade after a week?

They've slipped back into a more conservative design this year. And I'd prefer my gold one to the platinum one, the only real difference being you get to really stick it up the bandwagoners that have been members for miniscule amounts of time.

The pen's an absolute joke...but i bet i won't be laughing when i have to use it to remember a vital piece of MFC trivia:rolleyes:

yea i got 1 even after i told them not to send me anything as im not renewing my membership because i am getting an afl membership
Why would you do that?
I like the idea of having the different levels. I think it's a good incentive for the fickle out there who would like the prestige of having say a gold or platinum as opposed to missing a year and having to go through the process again. Sneaky, but good.
Do the stickers come once you've paid for the membership?

Just renew it. Pleaseeeeeee. :(

Does this mean we don't get a new card each year? That'd be silly because the consecutive members thing wouldn't change.
I think that the design looks wicked and being a gold member is nice :) Not too many 18 year olds would be able to boast that :D

festa1234 is probably becoming an AFL Member with Melbourne Club Support. So he/she would still be a Melbourne member. As is the case with me.

Does the club recieve money for that? And does it count towards our membership tally?

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think its yes on both counts. So really the guy who is joining the afl members is still supporting the club as much as anyone else who buys a membership.

Yes I'm pretty embarrassed by the cheap plastic pen as well. Sheesh they give a a gold card and then a el-cheapo dollar shop pen.
Sure the club need to raise revenue but please give us supporters something back especially as I don't need to be one as I am an MCC member.

I would have thought that love of the club was enough reason, and that people wouldn't need pissy novelties to convince them to sign up.

If you buy some expensive supporters pack you apparently get a decent pen :p

I didn't see the tie bit in your post until now. Really? I'm over 18 and I didn't get one (though I didn't read the form very carefully)
I'd like a tie as I'd actually use it. As for the pen....yay
I think the tie comes once you pay.

I got the gold membership. Only have to wait another decade until i upgrade! That pen broke for me as soon as i pulled the damn scrolling paper thing out

Your complaining over a pen? No wonder why us supporters have the reputation we do in the AFL. Who really gives a shit .... it's a pen!
And yep the tie, stickers, magnet fixture and all the other stuff comes when you pay.

i'm 14 and i'm on 9 years! 1 year off gettin a gold, what a bummer! 2009 i'll have to pay the big money to get a membership instead of the kid's 50 buck one. looks like more paper runs for me.:thumbsd:

You will only get a new card once you go up to the next level, that is where the expiry date comes in. At least I think it is... next year is my 7th consecutive (Silver) and my card expires end of 2010 so I am assuming.
I think they should have made Bronze the first 3 years to make Silver stand out a bit more but at the end of the day it is good marketing because the sooner new members go to Silver they are more likely to keep renewing as they have their Silver card for show.

You'll get a new card every year with your updated years of consecutive membership on the back.

Me.
Silly buggers sent me a silver card, so emailed them to send me a platinum card. Been a continuous member since the early '80s - can't remember exact year.
Started as normal member, then Demons Club, then Redlegs when they mergerd the Demons Club into the Redlegs. Didn't go to Tridents when the offered that option a couple of years ago. Was going to cost me an extra $400 on a family package to keep the exact same reserved seats!
Three generations of family sit in Redlegs level 2 every home game. Oldest 77 - youngest 4.

Is there anything that goes with the different category of membership? i.e
Silver member 5% discount on merchandise, club events, sponsors products etc.
Gold member 10% discounts.
Platinum member 15% discounts.
If there isn't, maybe it would be a good idea and good for membership renewals?
Also if you live near the LeighOak Hotel(Oakleigh) they have buy one get on free deal for members on meals at their bistro(Monday to Friday I believe).Which is a good benefit.

That's crap. My 'consecutive years membership' will be sitting on 10 for...5 years is it? 15 for platinum or is it 20?
I might 'lose' it a couple of times :p
I agree that some percentage discounts should apply to higher ranking members. It gives a bit more insentive to keep going instead of just a number, as proud as you might be of it.
Anyone a member from last year and hasn't received their renewal? I haven't as yet, but I have seen my Nan's (signed her up a few years ago :).
I'm silver, 08 will be my 7th year. Pen is a bit poxy, but at the end of the day it's just a pen. I liked the keyring from a few years ago. Happy with the tie.

2008 will be my 23rd year, and I havent recieved aything at all. So I get the platinum card?
Think its a bit slack that people who have already gotten them have only been members for 1/3 of what I have. I get a family redleg ticket every year, so why havent I recieved anything?

Thanks for that - totally agree! My Nan will be in her 3rd year (got hers Monday), I'll be in my 7th and am yet to receive.

haha I might have to do the same ;) ...that is the impression I got any way but I may have misunderstood it. JuveRule reckons that you get a new card every year but the membership notice states "From this point forward you will no longer have to wait for a new card to be delivered each year, as this card will last until you reach the next tier, just like a credit card or driver's licence" so I thought that was pretty clear cut. Does anyone know for sure?

Yeah i think i got it wrong, but i guess that does then defeat the purpose of having the consecutive number of years on the back. For example, i'm a gold member (from 98) and for the next few years i'll still have '11 consecutive years membership' on my card despite it being more. Anyway it's just a little thing, the main thing is that i'm paid-up.

Yeah, thought that myself - I'm silver but for the next 2 years mine will still say that I am a 7 year member.
Arrived in the post today... signed up for 08.
