View Full Version : Thanks for nothing North fans!!!

North fans you are a disgrace.

Two premierships in the 90's.
Your team has a bottom four list but with heart and effort provides great value for money and always exceeds expectations yet you have just sat back and let your team relocate to the Gold Coast.
Make no mistake you are 99% there.
Why have there been no public rallies like when the Bulldogs were under threat. Fitzroy went down kicking and screaming. FFS Hawk supporters had a massive rally when Croad was traded to Fremantle. Footy is a way of life so surely it is not to much to ask to get a few thousand people to Arden Street to make some noise and make people sit up and think, gee maybe they do care.

It will suck for the other Melbourne sides when North move to the Gold Coast. It means one less match a year that fans can watch their team in Melbourne and increased travel in the AFL.

North fans will go down in history as the most pathetic group who basically don't even care enough about their team to make a bit of noise and try anything to save them.

Why are you saying 'thanks for nothing'? Are you personally hurt that a team might be relocated to the Gold Coast and if so why?

What are you really on about? You don't state which team you support. Do you support one?

Because it will be one less Melbourne side which is one less game in Melbourne for your side. So instead of having the option of going to Geelong v North in Melbourne you will have to watch it on tv or pay to fly to the Gold Coast which most supporters can not afford.

You fugwits still don't get it. Despite the extreme bias Dimwitriou and his cronies still give to the Victorian teams and their stedfast belief that it is a Victorian game, commercial reality dictates that the game is now called the AFL. Revenue streams into major markets dictate that eventually they want 2 teams in every mainland state and 8 in Victoria or "Heartland" as the state has seemed to be named by the writers in the Age and HUN. A Gold Coast team will hapopen and it will be North Melbourne. All this huff and puff from the Nth Melbourne supporters groups and old school VFL revisionists will be totally expected by the AFL and they will have their strategies to combat it. Also for many of the reasons listed before, the AFL holds all the aces. They know this and would be supremely confident of their position. They don't wan't the Kangaroos in Melbourne and they will make this a reality one way or another.

The West Sydney team is still a long way off but it is definately on the AFL's radar. Everyone seems to think the Bulldogs are in the gun but I disagree. The Bulldogs represent the West of Melbourne and strategically are important to the AFL. If anyone was in the gun it could/should be Melbourne. If Melbourne were smart they'd merge with the dogs and then another team such as St Kilda or Hawthorn may find themeselves in the line of fire, but I seriously doubt that.

8 teams in Vic. 8 teams outside Vic. That is the long term startegy. May take another 20 years to get to that point.

You are a ****ing clown.

In less then a week North have raised $11,000 to save our club.

We've created a supporter trust group, and are organising an anti-relocation benefit gig.

One supporter has even gone to the extent of funding an ad campaign on SEN.

Rant all you want but never question our passion.

Sadly there is a long way too go. Hopefully when things get more desperate the scenes of 1989 down at the Western Oval occur at Arden Street.

Correct me if I'm wrong on any of these:

-3,000 people at the grand final of the Gold Coast league.
-Average of around 10k at AFL games on the Gold Coast including travelling Vics and Lions supporters
-Average (at a guess) 8k attendances in the Carrara Koalas days.

I think it's fair to say that the vast bulk just don't give a sh1t about the sport.

And for what it's worth, I'm South Australian born, and live outside of Australia. But you just wanted to have an anti-Vic rant didn't you?

As opposed to the interstate supporters whose teams have to travel out of state 10-11 times each year as opposed to the average Victorian supporter whose team will travel 4-6 times.

I don't give a **** what you call us. ;)

My club has 0% chance of going anywhere. Your club has probably around a 50% chance. I know who I would rather be. :)

It was a serious question though, why does someone that lives out of Australia and is from South Australia have any real issue with where the Kangaroos are based? How would it affect them?

This idea that a team and what it stands for would be destroyed if a team moves is ridiculous. There are plenty of teams that have moved around Melbourne and they are still doing fine in their new homes. They still have the same heritage. What difference does it make if they move to another state? I understand there is the obvious issues for people in Melbourne, however, how does that make a difference to someone that is not there?

One of my mates over here is a paid-up Roos member. He doesn't mind if they move, as long as they don't merge or fold he will keep supporting the Roos.

GGirl you must be too young to remember the save our skins campaign and what it feels like to have your club on it's knees. Time you grew up.

Greennick - please excuse my flippant response. Just coming on the main board while the pirhanas circle can get to you. :o

In answer to your question - the reason why a person in South Australia, the Northern Territory, Melbourne, outback Western Australia or Queensberry St North Melbourne cares about their football club defies all logic - as I'm sure the reasons you love the Eagles, hate Fremantle, defend Ben Cousins and hate Danny Southern for strangling Suma make no sense to an outsider.

It is more than the tradition, the jumper and the memories. If the entity were to move it would no longer be the North Melbourne Football Club. It would not have been established in 1869. The people of North deserve better, as do the people on the Gold Coast should they ever get a team. As long as it is not MY team then I will hate :D them as much as Richmond, Carlton. Collingwood or even West Coast.

Where you even alive when clubs like Richmond, St Kilda and even Collingwood went through difficult off-field periods?

When Richmond had their Save our Skins they called on the general public to save them from extinction, thousands of neutrals like me put our hand in our pocket and bought Richmond membership tickets until the club got back on their feet and gave cretins like you the opportunity to still have a club to support.

We are not asking for anything from anyone. We have steadily grown our membership base since the 90s, with a smaller supporter base it takes more time to grow. We will get there if we are given the time and opportunity to grow.

If you weren't a moron then rather than looking to point fingers you should be looking to support other clubs off-field and leave the rivalry for on-field, what is it at stake is far greater than just my club. We are facing a war for football as we know it. If the AFL dismantles the culture we have in Melbourne we will be no better than any other state.

The ability to see numerous games each week, the ability to go to games and have a great atmosphere with supporter of rival clubs, the ability to socialise in the general public without just having a bunch of clones following one or two teams.

If we mess too much with what we have it will come crumbling down, a few teams being forced to leave here will start a domino affect that wont stop until there are just a handful of clubs left because there are only a handful of clubs that can survive with a majority of games being interstate games.

AFL is happy to create a handful of clone franchise clubs that are only interested in making money because those clubs are easy to control and manipulate. A club like Collingwood exists to win premierships, making money just allows them a greater chance at success, their decisions are not dominated by what is financially the best decision. It is why they often take on the AFL where franchise clubs do not. We don't want to be another franchise club on the Gold Coast. We want to be independent, we want to exist for something more than just making money.
