View Full Version : What was the first Carlton game you saw...
...where we won ? I was never really a usual football goer until the end of 2005. I saw us play Essendon and be pumped, then Port and lose it in the last, then a few losses in 2006, until I got to see the Essendon draw. Was good, but not quite as good as a win, but I was lukcy enough to be at the Melbourne game where we won by 8 points I beleive it was? Now it doesn't worry me as now I go each week:)
I was in a carry basket when I first went!
I'm 24 now and probably one of my earliest definite memories was SOS kicking 10 against the Roys at PP one day and we had a good win.

I remember bits and pieces of games when I was young, but my first full memory is the 1993 GF, I was 5 at the time.

Not the greatest Grand Final to remember unfortunately.

I think it was Carlton v Richmond at the G in 79.
Not sure, but it may have been a Carlton/Geelong game at Princes Park in the early '80's. We won by about 10 goals.
It was a Carlton Melbourne game when I was about 6 at Princes Park (showing my age...).
The only think i remember about the game was when my Uncle (who goes for Melbourne) from the outer yelled to Peter Moore who was on the wing, calling him a fairy. Moore stopped midplay to give him the bird. Uncle John just turned to me and chuckled.
Am pretty sure we won the game too.
Carlton V Fitzroy in 94, i was 4. Best game however, 99 prelim! FTW!!!!!

First game I attended was at Princes Park when I was about 8, we smacked Adelaide by about 10 goals, and sat next to Craig Bradley in one of the boxes :)

Was against Collingwood circa 1993 at the MCG. Lived in the country so it was abit of a special occasion then. We lost, unfortunately.
First winning Carlton game I went to was a night game agaisnt Richmond in the mid 90's. We won, which was great for me becasue my family is predominantly Richmond.

Not sure of my first game but my earliest recollection was a game against Footscray at the Western Oval.
Early 90's, rained all day and we didn't kick a goal until the last 5 minutes of the game or something like that....
I remember my dad got a speeding fine on the way cause we were running late and a parking fine at the ground.
Terrible day :thumbsd:

I was at that game, I am pretty sure it was 1991 and Mark Arceri kicked our only goal on "Super" MacPherson.
My first game was against the Bulldogs at Princes Park circa 1976 - 1977 and we won. The old man tried to get me to follow the Kangas and mum the Pies but all the kids were all Carlton thanks to our oldest brother (born & bred). :thumbsu::thumbsu::):thumbsu::)
Best game the 1982 GF as I didnt think we had a chance but won the GF after the Tiges touched us up in the 2nd Semi. Best other final was the 99 Prelim, possibly the most thrilling game I have ever been to. :thumbsu:

1982 - Commonwealth Games Exhibition Match - Brisbane. It was at the old Gabba ground, Jimmy Jess could roost a ball from full back to full foward. Peter McConville was our main forward and we lost......

Saw our back to back to back of 06, 07 and 08. The game's a lot quicker now.

I am not quite that old
I can only remember going to the finals when I was young
I remember the 68 GF (I remember Melboune's 64 GF and Beckwith's goal better but that is a long story)
Of course I vividly remember 70 - what a game

Unfortunately the only Carlton game I've ever been to was a pre-season game at North Hobart in the late 90s. We played Geelong. I can't remember if we won, I think we did. I hope we did.

That was the night a Richmond supporting dwarf punched me in the ear for pinching his fat little arse on the Jolimont footbridge after the game. I was so drunk I could hardly walk. He took umbrage at me saying "move it Shorty" when he was walking too slowly. I collapsed on him and we rolled down the embankment together. My eldest son still loves to give it to me at Richmond games when we cross the bridge after the game. He teases me with "Beware of the dwarf!" To this day I hate dwarves.
As for my first game I remember Carlton smashing the filth circa 1974 when I was about 12 at Princes Park. There was about 45000 there. No transferring games to the MCG back in those days. Its too bad we can't have them there again and just ban the Collingwood supporters from getting in.

Believe me there was less respect than that when the missus gave me the "what kind of ******** are you?" speech when I got home. One ear was shaped like a cauliflower and the other was copping a different kind of beating.

Good question - I'm nearly 6'2". Man - they are angry little *******. And he was a Richmond supporter as well. Imagine having 8 year olds looking down at you and finishing ninth every year. A crap life (x 2)!

Foster's Cup game in '89 at North Hobart V Fitzroy. I had a juinor membership at the time which got me into the game and also got the Blues News paper every couple of months, signed birthday card from Sticks, posters and autographs. Great value for was $10.:thumbsu: Remember Sticks snapping a goal from the wing the ground is that small.:D
Also saw them agains St. Kilda at West Park in Burnie, first or second game for Greg Williams at Carlton. Also remember Lockett getting absolutely mugged when he got off the team bus and not signing autographs, wheras Carlton were allowing people into their change rooms. Also against Essendon at North Hobart in '94. It was about 34 degrees that day with fires all over Hobart.
Yet I have been to Melbourne a handful of times and have never seen them win. :(

Dont know if we won though GM>

True about the blues being fan friendly when they're down in Tassie. They have a massive, massive following. I remember at the Launceston game NAB Cup last year, they even set up this signing thing where the players took it in turns to come out and meet supporters and have a chat, sign things etc. God knows what time they left the ground :)
Funny you say that about the rooms, we went down into the North Hobart tunnel into the grounds, they let us in, with just about everyone else, asked my brother who was about 6 at the time if he wanted to go have his photo with some of the players.
Can't ever fault any of the blues past or present when they've been in Tassie. :thumbsu:

A bit too hard to recall or remember, I wasn't even a teenager when it was played. Cannot recall myself ever going onto the ground. It would have been nice to.
I still can't recall who I went with either. I didn't get any autographs or anything like that.:( It could very well have been my Uncle who took me there. Perhaps one of the reasons why we didn't get any was because although he's a mad football fan, he's a Collingwood supporter, and true to form he despises Carlton and has no teeth.:o

When i first started going to the footy they had the AFL Squadron membership which was like $30 and I could go to any game of footy I liked.
Then I became a Junior Blue and got all the jazz that came with it ie. birthday cards from your fave players, clinics during school holidays, etc.

I went to that game, i remember we were about 3 goals down with not much time left, we got a couple of quick goals and Eddie Betts almost took a mark from about 53m out but he dropped it and then the siren went, very empty feeling :(

Practice game at North Hobart v Essendon in 1993.
Managed to escape my dad and being my first game, play had stopped so I figured it was half time, so off I went to meet my hero, Kernahan.
Got all the way up to him and when he saw me he bellowed at me to get off the ground with the deepest voice I have ever heard in my life. Scared the crap out of me.
He was great when I went back out later though and introduced me to the other players.
1982 - Just arrived in Australia in July, no idea about VFL (back then). September flicking through TV channels saw this strange game, watched for a while and liked the team in Blue, from then on it's been a love story with the CFC.
