Wouldnt that mean some teams get two byes a year, while others get one?

Sorry I forgot, the bye will be introduced (And will no longer be called Richmond :D) which teams will be able to use as supporter days.
AFL teams and players get more breaks, can be even like the NRL used to do it before the Titans.
It will only occur until an 18th team is ready for NSW.

NRL used to have byes and everyone had same amount, just sometimes 3 teams off instead of 1.
Also 1 extra game a weekend, now thats some extra cash.

Why not have 52 teams? Each team plays each other once and the team with the most "Q"s in their name wins the premiership.
We could play it with an inflatable turnip for a ball and blindfold all the players.

We better sort out the other 16 teams for NSW first then.

Haha, yep.
Especially as he mentions the bye himself, then goes on to talk about the extra game each week. :D

I had to read his post a few times just to make sure that was what was posted.
A game of kick-to-kick maybe?
And three teams having a bye would result in less games of football in the end.

Stuff it, call them the South Stradbroke Island Sharks, and play them from Straddie.
Not sure if the barge will be able to cater for the crowds on match days, but heck, the AFL can build a bridge.:thumbsu:

Hang on, answer me this...
1. Cararra holds 17,000 maximum in the least comfort of any major AFL ground in the land. Is this acceptable?
2. The political will to spend 9 figures again on another football ground arguably does not exist in this State anymore. It took years and years to get Lang Park refurbished for the Broncos, then we got Robina Stadium hot on the heels of that to secure a 2nd SEQ NRL football team, then the Minister for Sporting Stadiums Terry 'the Fox' Mackenroth resigned and more recently so did his commander Captain Beattie.
3. The Gabba has the right to be the home ground of any 2nd Qld AFL team in a deal struck with the QMSFA and the AFL.
4. The Lions had 22,000 members in 2007 I heard and only 16,000 of those were Queensland-based.
5. Can South East Queensland sustain 2 under-performing AFL teams? If the 00's are the Decade of the Lions with 4 grand finals and 3 premierships then why are they accumulating annual financial losses despite crowds remaining strong?
6. If the Kangaroos are getting 22,000 Melbourne-based members and the Lions are getting 16,000 Queensland-based members, then are the Kangaroos likely to go backwards or forwards?
7. If South East Queensland suffers from a lack of corporate support then what chance has a blow-in from Melbourne got of attracting sufficient corporate members to a sub-standard venue in a non-capital city?
I await your responses.

Not interested in responding, just want to know what the crowds will be like at the Bye games. I bet they are bigger than the NRL Bye games:D

The synopsis is done, LD. A club will be playing in Carrara from 2010.
There's plenty of things to consider of course. Afterall it is a new market for the AFL. But know this LD, my dear friend: - League is shit. ;)

1. Cararra holds 17,000 maximum in the least comfort of any major AFL ground in the land. Is this acceptable? No, but the mere fact of growing the game outside of its heartland means AFL long-term support and that is comforting.
True, but if the AFL is serious about a permanent relocation with a locally-based team (cf fly in fly out team) I dare say the Govt will assist.
3. The Gabba has the right to be the home ground of any 2nd Qld AFL team in a deal struck with the QMSFA and the AFL. Agreements can be varied with negotiation..
4. The Lions had 22,000 members in 2007 I heard and only 16,000 of those were Queensland-based. Good point.
5. Can South East Queensland sustain 2 under-performing AFL teams? If the 00's are the Decade of the Lions with 4 grand finals and 3 premierships then why are they accumulating annual financial losses despite crowds remaining strong? [quote] 2 teams = better chance of having 1 of them as premiership contenders in any given year.... but yeah, the region cant support 2 underperformers for too many years in a row.
[quote]6. If the Kangaroos are getting 22,000 Melbourne-based members and the Lions are getting 16,000 Queensland-based members, then are the Kangaroos likely to go backwards or forwards? I dont reckon they'd improve members... they would lose members at the same rate as they gained them, otherwise be a negative gain. Why? No reason for buying memberships unless Cararra is always a 17000 sellout and even then why would 20000 members sign up?
Then again, a Gold-Coast based Kangaroos could play 3 or 4 big blockbusters per year at the Gabba against say Carlton, Brisbane, etc.
7. If South East Queensland suffers from a lack of corporate support then what chance has a blow-in from Melbourne got of attracting sufficient corporate members to a sub-standard venue in a non-capital city? I dont know the answer...

How about we have 16 teams, but we have a reserve team... and every time you get a free against you you get relegated to the reseve team, and someone comes into the side. This way, all players would eventually rotate throughout every team. It would also give players a week or two off to stay fresh while they were moving up the line
omg this isnt real is it? i mean its just sum1 being silly right?

How long did Nick Riewoldt sign on for just recentley? I know it's more than two years, otherwise the AFL would be laughing their heads off at the coincidence, but if its longer than four years, then it might be a non issue. Three years, well, if the Saints aren't successful (how successful, completely subjective I guess) then one can only imagine the support the AFL will give Southport/Gold Coast/GC Kangaroos to snag Roo. It's the most ideal way to kick off the tenure at Carrara. 'Bring the Southport superstar back to Southport' especially if its a major Southport flavour this GC team in 2010.
You can see it now, Riewoldt fronting the media after signing on in front of a GC footy club backdrop, then him dressed in whatever the GC kit will be, out on a sunny Carrara being photographed by every sports photographer in the country. It'd be the mightiest poetic injustice to the rest of the league most particularly St. Kilda, but the most poetic coincidence to the AFL, and last time I checked, they still run the league.
Wouldnt that mean some teams get two byes a year, while others get one?
of course not, dog. i thought it was impossible too, but someone on BF showed me how it could be done. to make it even, there will be a couple of rounds where say 3, 5 or 7 teams have a bye.
it actually fits in with the blockbuster draw system, and it includes (i think) another 11 games a year that arent currently covered by the TV rights.
the AFL can negotiate these games out, say, 11 monday night games exclusive to foxtel, or something like that.
