Its pretty simple when you think about it... If every north MEMBER got just one friend to sign up, they would instantly have another 15 members. Then if every north 'fan' actually converted to a paid up member, they would have another 12 members on board.

So 42 members in total, lets say they need to raise $1 million... Each would only have to chip in a meager $23,809.52 in order for the club to be financially viable again.

Ok the joking numbers aside, wouldnt this be a more viable solution than getting supporters of other clubs to donate to their charity? Get people interested in your club long term, and get those people who are already interested to commit financially.

These sort of superficial assessments are, well, just that. If every North member could get 1 new member each North wouldn’t be in this position. There just aren’t that many potential members around the corner. In any event, even if they could do it, it has to be long term members not just short term guilt members. North need to attract people of their own accord now and build on that for a few decades. On field success is a good start but it has to accompany good management and clear direction.

That’s not to say North members shouldn’t apply a bit of guilt anyway.

Perhaps, but the real issue is that the AFL want a team on the GC. If its not north melbourne it'll be someone else.

There is no 'perhaps' about it. That's all this is. The AFL have given loans to clubs before, or filled their coffers with donations in the form of the CBF. This time they have told the roos that they wont just be getting a hand out, they will have to move if they want the money.

It looks like, like it or lump it, the AFL will have a gold coast team in the next couple of years. It sucks, but what choice do the roos have?
