View Full Version : PRE view on our list managment, October '05 ....
Not sure if I've done this properly (and probably a bit mean to post this) but found this on the PRE board.
Relates back to a thread they had on their board in Oct 05 relative to us having 5 picks in the top 22.

Easy being smart in hindsight but some absolutely wonderful insights in this thread! :D

PRE's a pretty good fan-forum, I just didn't understand why in the past, they had a thread about Buddy that was something like 90 pages long.

Same reason why HHQ/MightyHawk/BF have had 100 threads on Chris Judd vs Luke Hodge.

Reading this it made me remember that my expectation was finals in 2009 :D
I think we have been very lucky with our picks and none of our high draft picks have turned into absolute duds.
Kudos to the recruiting guys :thumbsu:

Big call...
Lets be honest with our players.
Dowler pick 5 yet to give us anything
Bailey pick 16 Knee reco...fingers crossed he will recover and be able to jump
Matt Little pick 25 Dud
Harry Miller pick 20 dud
Beau Muston pick 21...Yet to do anything
Xavier Ellis pick 2...Lets hope this year he plays like a pick 2.
Dowler Muston and Ellis must all make impacts this year or these 3 high picks will be looked upon as a big waste.
Its fine we all say Muston had knee problems, Dowler has a pelvis issue and Ellis wanted to study and didnt do a pre-season etc etc etc. We didnt have to choose those guys. We took the punt on them and fully knew where they were at with injuries.
This is a huge year for those 3.

they keep talking about him then i think rosy merges topics so it is one thread not 100 threads

Xavier Ellis was not pick 2.
He was pick 3 behind Marc Murphy the Dale Thomas.
Yes, he will play like a pick 2 even though he was pick 3.:thumbsu: He just needs to get a good pre-season under his belt.

There's some real gold in there, like this one...
As most already know, except for the Dawks, this years draft is nothing like last years or the superdraft of 2001.
GM and TW know this and even though there are lots of holes in our list, trading decent players (lets face it noone wants players like Tivendale & Hall) for picks in this years draft would be ludicrous.
Next years draft is already rated by many and we will probably finish in the bottom half of the ladder to again have some decent picks. And there won't be any priority picks anymore from next year on.
The hawks will also finish low on the ladder if not last but, won't be able to trade any players because they will either be too old (Spider and Crawf) or too young.
Tigers on the other hand will have some currency with our list and be able to trade with the intention of getting some good talent. (Well thats my theory anyway Undecided)
And the reply...
Good theory tigerjoe. Shows how dumb the Dawks really are.
You gotta laugh :D

I disagree, i think we took them knowing that they will take time to develop and time was what we had after the promising signs of 2005. I think the recruiters actually planned this so that these guys don't hit their peaks at the same time as Buddy, Roughy and co, just so we get a clearer picture on how our salary cap situation was like.

Spot on. I expect both Muston and Ellis to play 10 - 15 games each, but think Dowler may be one mroe year away.
Drafting two blokes with serious injuries seems to have back-fired IMO.

loved this one
I hope we get Junior Rioli with Pick 18.
It would be wonderful to have a young kid with those precious (red) blood lines back in the Yellow and Black
Now doesnt that contradict what their supporters say about him now?:P

What a classic thread. :D
I've got to say that although some of those Tiger fans are complete jokes and what they've posted is just laughable... especially in hindsite... there's also some quality posters who have summed things up perfectly. Some of those Tiger fans have predicted what has happened almost exactly. Hats off to the brains in that thread.
