North and Fitzroy had been allowed to merge. Things would've been different for both clubs and this crap wouldn't have happened (Of course another club may be in the same boat.)

Probably the thing that would shit me most if I was a Roo's fan is that 10 years ago they tried to do the right thing and merge with Fitzroy to give both teams a solid future in Melbourne. Instead the AFL said no, ****ed Fitzroy off and are now pissing on the Roo's.

I think they still have the option to merge if neccessary.
They chose to stay in melbourne, Southport get the 17th licence. They either survive on their own in Melbourne, or merge with another Vic club or die. Just because they refuse to go to QLD does'nt mean they can't explore a merger if thats what it takes. The AFL get their 16 teams still, North stay in Vic, QLD has 2 teams.

Or if North do manage to survive on their own, 17 teams for a few years and then the AFL would put an 18th licence on express just to get rid of the bye.

North saying no and surviving would be the best option for turbo expansion.

This exactly how I feel.

People keep telling us we need to innovate and do more, without realising we have been inovating and doing more for deasces, only for the AFL to pish on us.

No one else wanted to touch Friday night football.

We have been asking for Good Friday footy for over a decade

Apparently, being innovative in football nowadays means buying pubs.

Or getting a business criminal to pump money into you.

Didn't the other clubs vote against the merger in case it formed a super club .

Watch any AFL concessions to a Gold Coast team get watered down by the rest of the clubs

Actually, buying (profitable) pubs is all about having a smart business plan and looking to inject further funds into the club. You may have just been looking at a throw-away line to finish your post, but don't knock a profitable venture that has been great (at least for our club).

As for Good Friday Footy, it will happen eventually, once the religious nay-sayers get over the fact that you can play football on that day and still respectfully observe all the rites.

Why would they schedule North on Friday when no one wants to watch them? :thumbsu:

Being innovative means standing on your two feet and not asking for your members to sign up and saying you're going to the wall. Smorgon did exactly the same thing as Brayshaw on The Footy Show last year and said we were insolvent.

North's board make The Smorgon and Collins boards look good.

Pratt has achieved more than Smorgon in little under a year and righted the ship.

You need to give your fans hope and not talk down your club in the market place. :thumbsd:

I can see the North board saying no to Pratt if he wanted on your board.

You'd take Pratt's money in a heartbeat.
