ST KILDA
1. Allen, Jarryd - high hopes for him, got injured early in the year, might be something good
2. Armitage, David - quality first round draft pick, a few questions on his commitment, endurance, but definately has talent
3. Baker, Steven - auto pick in the starting 22, considered on of the top 4 or 5 taggers in the league
4. Ball, Luke - one of the hardest, most couragious players to even pull on the saints guernsey, heavily underrated by many fans.
5. Birss, Shane - slightly above average GOP
6. Blake, Jason - the coaches workhorse, champion person, fans flog, does whatever the coach asks, questions on his decision making and disposal
7. Clarke, Raphael - had a shocking few years of injuries, starts to put form together and then gets crippled, started to show a bit, at 21 saints have high hopes
8. Clarke, Xavier - 5 seasons of frustration and injury, too couragious for his own good, never gives less than 100%, some questions on his decision making, at 23, a bit more maturity to go.
9. Dal Santo, Nick - average year by his own standards but definately an A grade midfielder.
10. Dempster, Sean - finished at sydney, considered a fringe player at sydney, will be considered a fringe player at st kilda.
11. Ferguson, Matthew - right on the edge of the list, delisted once
12. Fiora, Aaron - a confidence player, switches from being the next judd, to a mobile lemon, has a good few minutes = can be a great game, became more consistent in 06 and 07.
13. Fisher, Leigh - A gutsy HBF who can rotate through the midfield, does a job, much loved at st kilda, tends to be either heavily overrated or heavily underrated by fans.
14. Fisher, Sam - well what can you say, selected as fringe player with potential now considered one of our best defenders
15. Gardiner, Charlie - fringe player at Geelong, given a second chance at st kidla
16. Gardiner, Michael - how many games in the past few years?
17. Geary, Jarryn - big wraps from Casey on this kid.
18. Gilbert, Sam - wow, just wow, many consider even from opposition that he plays more like a 100 game veteran than a rookie.
19. Goddard, Brendon - badly missed in 07. people who saw him early in the season fill in at CHF kick a few, set up a few storm through for 14 marks just cry at how talented he is.
20. Gram, Jason - played 07 with injury restrictions and tight legs, fantastic 06, break through year 05, and serviceable with flashes of brilliance in 07. with a bit of luck and some preeason 08 will see Gram rise again. every time you saw him massage his hammies you winced
21. Gwilt, James - serviceable utility, player around 30 to 32 in the list for quality, with potential to go higher, can play power forward or solid defence, decision making poor with the ball, but has a mighty long kick
22. Harvey, Robert (veteran – inside list) - might be ok with a few games under his belt
23. Hayes, Lenny - A class midfielder has everything in his book, great tackler, decent pace, fantastic peripheral vision, 1%ers, good disposal
24. Howard, Brad - project player, terribad in the seniors, had a few games in the casey seconds. (then so did monty a few years ago)
25. Hudghton, Max (veteran – inside list) - struggled with injury in 06 and 07, fantastic player
26. Jones, Clinton - discussed enough
27. King, Steven - older ruckman cleared by geelong, up to him to see whether he is going to do a paul salmon and give us a genuine option for a couple of seasons, or he's doing a doc clarke and getting his retirement package
28. Koschitzke, Justin - outstanding utility, CHB, ruck, CHF, FF, plus courage to burn.
29. Maguire, Matt - came back unfit after a long lay off, potential is something we all say, but he's shown he can mix it with the best.
30. Milne, Stephen - small forward who averages 1.9 goals per game.
31. Montagna, Leigh - 2005 was serviceable, 2006 was solid, 2007 outstanding
32. Riewoldt, Nick - just awesome, has everything you could want from a footballer, whatever we are paying him, isnt' enough.
33. Rix, Michael - terribad, but gets a job because of a dirth of ruckmen, and injuries to his betters.
34. Schneider, Adam - great pick up, attacking/defending half forward with talent
35.
36.
37.
38.
Rookie List
1. Attard, Jayden - did well highly regarded on his opportunities
2. Eddy, Robert - high regard in casey
3. van Rheenen, Luke - exciting ruckman with potential questions on the breadth of his skills.

Never thought I'd say this dan warna, but I agree with almost all of your summary  ;)

A minor point - Allen injured himself in Round 2 I think it was, so he basically missed the whole year. Came back towards the end.

And I reckon Brad Howard will prove a few wrong - got a smart head on his shoulders.

Top work Dan. :thumbsu:

I like how you highlighted the top 18 in red - I would have included Max in that automatic group

yep bad miss by me.

include max.

my big worry about him is his recurring leg injuries. 07 was a shocker for him, absolute shocker :(

I think he deserves 08 and possibly 09, but the club and max really need to have a look at why his hammies are recurringly going.

taking the auto starts its a fair team :

B: l. fisher Max goddard
HB: Goose s. fisher Gilbert
C: Dal Santo Ball Gram
HFF Schneider Reiwoldt Montagna
FF Milne Kosi baker

R: (insert ruckman), Hayes, Harvey
B: X. clarke, R. clarke, >< ><

on paper it looks a really strong side, then again on paper we were a strong side in 93 and 99...

IMO King will be an automatic starter ... and you've missed Goddard in your team above.

lol i had him in then he dissapeared in a switch around :(

as for auto start, I hope we are honest with our appraisals.

guys like dempster, cj, etc need to play the practice games and prove their right to play.

if they dont impress enough to earn their spots they should play, selection shouldn't be to prove a point, or test their worth in the live season.

We have a strong side on paper like we do every year but it all comes down to whether or not that one of our ruckman can come good, if they both come good we look nearly unstoppable... again on paper...

FB: L.Fisher Hudghton Dempster
HB: Goddard Maguire S.Fisher
C: Gram Dal Santo Montagna
HF: Gilbert Riewoldt Xavier
FF: Milne Koschitzke Schneider
R: M.Gardiner Hayes Ball
I/C: King R.Clark Birss Harvey
Emg: Fiora Blake Rix Armitage Allen Geary Howard Jones Ferguson Gwilt C.Gardiner

Notes:
*Dempster in the 22, he is a good shutdown player, he is a premiership player and he is only 23, he has the height and fitness and speed to become our next FB, he can play very similarly to Max and I think we should start grooming him there.
*Gram on the wing.... everyone knows why, pace and skill and can hit a target in the forward line.
*Gilbert in the forwardline, he can do everything, he can apply forward pressure while going into the midfield as well.
* No Armitage, Howard, Allen, CJ, Geary or Pick 9, from what we have seen they are not good enough however I would be disappointed if there wasn't atleast one of these players that forced themself into the starting 22.
* No Baker or Attard, they will be out for a large deal of the season however I think that they are both in the best 25 and a strong chance of making the starting team every week.
* No Fiora, the guy is no good, he is not as soft as people seem to think he is but he's not good enough to be a premiership player, however if he really worked on his kicking he could become a dangerous winger that could kick 30+ goals and definately be in the starting 22.

I think that this starting 22 on paper has the potential to beat Geelong they just need to play to their strengths and be absolutely ferocious at the man and the ball and that is why I have Birss in the 22, his pressure and clearence work is brilliant.

That side can win the flag, plain and ismple it will really come down to injuries and whether RL knows what he is doing and my bet is that he does.
