View Full Version : Is Arden St Really Going to Get Redeveloped? (ie: is it fully funded?)

I haven't seen one article saying that the redevelopment of Arden Street is actually going to happen. I have found where the State Government is pledging 3.7 million towards the approx 9 mill required to do it but where is the rest coming from? I've heard some people say the AFL or Fed Govt but no where can I find this is actually going ahead.
Given that the AFL are at loggerheads with the Kangaroos over the relocation issue you'd think any funding they might of pledged (if in fact they have) might be in danger.

Is it going to happen or is it just a matter of lets rattle some cans and hope we get the remaining 5.3 mill or so?
Any chance the Kanagroos are hoping to stay in North Melbourne would hinge on this redevelopment going ahead. Does anyone really know the facts on this?
If John Howard wants to win some votes in Melbourne, he would foot the bill for the rest.

Well the first part has happened.
They demolished the fire hazard of a Grand Stand. I think they would have been hard pressed to demolish that if they weren't planning something else after it.
Maybe that is all they really wanted to do.

Who knows but I've put the same question to the North board and so far not one person can show me where it states this is actually going ahead (and thats it's just a proposal with some nice drawings).
If no-one actually knows if this is happening what hope have they really got of staying here?

The only redevelopment i would be doing is for it to be played on again, at least at VFL level ......... or i would be moving out to somewhere like Casey Fields or something.
20-30K stadium would be great for North, with lots of small corporate boxes for small businesses......
I've heard some people say the AFL or Fed Govt but no where can I find this.

Nice work on getting that mate. You'd reckon now that the 1.5 mill the AFL have said they'd tip in might be in jepoardy unless you've already got them to sign on the dotted line.

"Non-core" promise ?
According to the Melbourne Times about a months ago or more now it was all ready to start when they realised they hadnt tested the soil, they then did so and found that it was gonna cost about $1m more to build and they would have to wait another year.
The story was very critical, saying that testing the soil is meant to be the first thing done and the level of organisation on the project must be very poor.
