View Full Version : Dealing with BOGUS North supporters on the radio.

Okay, as I have pointed out already, I am of no doubt that many of the so called North Member pro relocation callers on the radio are bogus plants or opposition trolls.
These types have been flying out of the woodwork since a fightback has been initiated.
As Zebra pointed out earlier, it is one thing for some North fans to have reservations after an 18 month high rotation spin diet of futility, but for those same people to spend their hard earned money and leisure time, phoning up and sitting in a queue, only to Parrot the unsavory musings of Demetriou and Wilson, defies all belief.
Ladies and Gentlemen, we are in danger of becoming victims to an organised coup detat.
I ask all North supporters that ring up any radio stations from now on to give their first names and their 2007 membership ID number, in order to flush out these usurpers.
Please hit the phones and demand that the radio stations also seek to verify the authenticity of callers by asking for membership ID numbers, or otherwise risk the credibility of the authenticity of their callers opinions.
Yours Sincerely

Yeah why don't they just pay people to become North Members, to make it look like the membership also supports the move, would be a lot more effective

Your plan, while it has merit has one huge failing. A person who is completely against the move but has no membership identifier can then be accused of being a patsy for the fightback groups.
Also have you ever thought that it is possible that there is a small percentage of North fans who actualy do support the move.... remember 10 years ago the memebers of one club involved in a potential merger voted in favor of the merger by a huge margin, which if it went through would of removed their individual identity forever. There will be some.... probably not in the numbers that you are experiencing (yes, there will be some fake ones out there who are just stirring the pot) but don't for a minute that 100% of your fellow fans support your views... emotions are a funny things and work differently for all of us.

Any Pro-relocation supporters lose nothing by following this protocol.
It adds merit to their opinions if they ratify their standing.

It's not that I discount the possibility, it's the sheer volume of calls.
The strange thing is, my interactions with hundreds and hundreds of North fans over the last 18 months has never revealed to me one person that was passionately pro-relocation.
Not one.
Suddenly all these people are popping up and utilising their spare time to make public declarations supporting relocation.
Strange thing, that.
Do you seriously believe that an AFL coup detat is not underway at present?
Even sober media commentators are having no trouble reading between the lines as to what is going on.

I'm not in Melbourne so I don't hear the callers but there are people out there that believe that relocation is the only way for the Kangaroos to go forward. I know several people that think that way, maybe they are the only ones out there but it's unlikely.
The AFL may well be employing other tactics to try to get their way but I can't see how people calling up talkback radio and pretending to be Kangaroos supporters helps that position at all.

This stuff is basic psychological manipulation. Politicians do it, corporations do it and on some level we all do it.
Of course this stuff can have a debilitating effect on people of a lesser resolve.
The AFL are attempting to fracture the club at board and membership level in order to paint us as a disunited rabble. Radio is the leading forum for free speech to be heard.
They know if we are united, we cannot be defeated.

Like I said before, you could be right. I still don't see how it changes anything at this point though. If people are going to be convinced not to sign up as members due to what someone else said on the radio then they are unlikely to stick around long term to help the club anyway. Bottom line is that if the AFL are hellbent on getting the Roos to the Gold Coast, or getting rid of them completely, they have the ways and means to do it regardless of whether you are united as a club or not.

Supporters refuse to believe any positives about relocation, you refuse to believe that 70% of North's revenue is coming from the AFL and now you are refusing to believe that some supporters may be in favour of their club surviving rather than slowly dying in Melbourne. Next you will be believing that Vlad has spies at Arden Street that are altering the financial records to make things look bad financially for North and also has people at Arden street deliberately losing membership applications as an excuse to the reason why the kangaroos membership numbers are low.

The only way that the North Melbourne Football Club can survive is by staying in Melbourne. A team based on the Gold Coast is no longer North Melbourne. It can wear blue and white and call itself the Kangaroos and steal our history but it will never be North Melbourne.
Maybe the AFL should release the percentage of revenue that all clubs receive of the AFL. I bet all the other clubs are probably around the same mark especially if gate receipts is included.

Exactly. And it is not as silly as some of the disbelievers on here make out.
It's quite good practice if you want to skew opinion in your favour.
They could then be armed with Rehame reports which states x% of North Melbourne supporters were for or against the move and use it as further means to validate their arguments when the inevitable questions arise.
Furthermore, it could encourage others who are neither here nor there 50/50, 60/40 to change their stance as well.
'If all these others are saying we should go, maybe they're right and we probably should. I'll get behind it too....'
FWIW: I doubt they are all bogus calls, but you'd have to be naive to outright dismiss the possibility.
It's one of those little corporate tactics that are employed from time to time.

And before you won your flag it was HOW many years since your last one? And how was your financial position in 1999 (you know the year the Kangas were winning a flag about 4 years after your pathetic capitulation to Carlton in your last GF for 12 years).
Every one is so high and mighty about the Kangas, but let's face it at some stage every Victorian club (except maybe the Bombers) have been in the financial poo at some stage.

You know full well I'm referring to off-field success. I couldn't care less how long an opposition team goes without winning a premiership (the longer the better) as long as it is financially viable and not relying on welfare for it to exist. Time to turn off the life support.

Both Geelong and Colonwood found themselves in that situation because of bad management as they were headed by people that had no idea how to run a milk bar let alone a professional football club. When we want advice on football matters from someone who doesn't have a clue, I'll rattle your cage.
How will you rattle my cage?

How will you rattle my cage?
Just mention the words 'Gold' and 'Coast', and you'll start running around, bouncing off the walls, like a puppy chasing its tail.

this is why no opposition supporter should buy a kangaroos football club membership
open disrespect, arrogance and elitism.
your club deserves no help from the other clubs it ridicules

I only show open disrespect to ignorant trolls, like mickdog and yourself. You add nothing positive to BF, or to society in general.

i think you'll find The Chad is offering more to the society that is AFL and the gold coast than you.
The Chad has already promised to buy a gold coast membership if the franchise enters the AFL at the expense of kangaroos football club.
The Chad now promises to scan a copy of The Chad's membership when The Chad buys it IF the gold coast franchsie enters the AFL at the expense of kangaroos football club.

Perhaps The Chad might like to do us all a favour and learn how to refer to him/her/itself in the first person.

Let me first say that I feel sick in the gut with what is happening to North. I have family and friends who bleed for the club.
But everytime a North supporter jumps on the talk back scene and mentions the Dogs debt, lack of success, membership base etc etc. then that just *****es me off.
Some old **** rang AW on Wednesday night and went on endlessly about how the only reason the Whitten Oval is being developed is because Howard was trying to buy votes in the West. Yeah good plan, should snare Gellibrand by 2028 at this rate. By that time people would have long forgotten that the Libs gave 8 mill. Don't worry about the other 17 mill that other governments, the AFL and ASF is contributing.
You are an idiot you old fart, all North or any other sporting club needs to do, Penrith NRL also received a grant,is to apply to the Federal government for a grant, there is an official process which Cam Rose and Smorgon followed.
Do you really think Howard would all by himself think of giving an AFL team in the West 8 million? He wouldn't know where Footscray is FFS.
Good Luck North and to all those diehard North supporters we know how you feel.Fight for your club!!!
And to the idiot that rang Gerard and Dwayne, save us the histrionics and focus on YOUR club and challenge ahead. If you want to discuss politics ring Neil Mitchell.
