View Full Version : North supporters do realise....

....that when they make a post pleaing for support for the roos to remain in melbourne, then then fly off the handle at one or more of the non-victorian clubs, they aren't exactly going to win themselves a lot of friends don't they?
I'm ambivalent about the relocation idea, but when I open a thread on here and see "We don't need another Freo" or "Perth fans are dispassionate theatregoers", it doesn't exactly inspire me to rush out in support.

North supporters are scrapping the absolute bottom of the barrel by asking supporters of other clubs to buy memberships.

I know where your coming from, over here in Melbourne, North Melbourne supporters are going through a very emotional time at the moment and are extremely snappy when opposition supporters just say 'Off to the Gold Coast' without reading the facts etc...
What can we say when a big interstate club just says provocative things?

The sad thing is that, if other supporters buy a membership one year, they will drop off the next. So in reality, it will not help the club in the long term.

Don't know, don't care. The fact is my club isn't the one that's being forced to relocate/merge/die/whatever :)

This is where you are wrong. If the board gave a damn about the members, we wouldn't be in this situation at the moment.

These are not my words - they are shamelessly lifted from a random website that had done the hard work for me, but they may go some way to explaining to the thoughtless, tactless and less empathetic amongst the posters why they elicit unsavoury responses from North supporters who are going through an emotional wringer at the moment.
I simply would like people to consider external viewpoints before they proceed with their ranting.....
There is a wonderful skill called Perceptual Positions, the skill of adopting more points of view than your own in an experientially rich and organized way. It represents a profound contribution to the study and practical applications of the human mind.
The oldest predecessor of Perceptual Positions is a very simple idea. "Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in his shoes." In other words, you can't really understand someone until you've experienced what it's like to be in his situation.
The ability to see things from the point of view of another is a key skill in understanding people, as well as to healthy boundaries and self-concept.

North / Kangaroos are merely delaying their fate, either relocation or financial closure. Anyone with half a rational business mind will conclude that they aren't a long term propisition, without AFL aid, they wouldn't be able to survive.
It's good that the AFL are making North make a definitive answer because their reluntance to hold a stance is frustrating the rest of the competition.
Their supporters have had a chance to stand up and be counted but they continually have failed to do so. That is the difference between my club, no matter how we go, we go to games, buy memberships & that's why we make money. North supporters don't.
Goodbye North.

I'll bet that many of the North supporters who are crying out on this board to have their club saved by supporters of other clubs, are themselves NOT MEMBERS of their own club.
Until they all sign up, they shouldn't expect support from others

last time i checked north fans were telling opposition fans to get lost because they didn't want their advice. they were also violating the purpose of an online forum by DOBBING IN posts that simply presented a difference of opinion to moderators.
all they want is their money from other clubs, they are greedy for the dollar and nothing more. look at how ungracious they have been all season towards the likes of hawthorn and collingwood. you burn that bridge, it doesn't get re-built in the name of "victorian" football and its clubs.
just like canberra. came in, got what they cold, burnt whatever fans they converted (2000 canberra based ticket holders), and left greedily for a better offer.

if gold coast comes in as no. 17 and north flat-out leaves the AFL then they'll play on in the VFL...in front of all those loyal fans who love the club and not the brand of AFL right?
it would kill two birds with one stone given no VFL club will affiliate with them

the kangaroos football club can survive. hell it can even survive as the north melbourne football club again.
just outside of the AFL. simple really. you going for that? or would you rather make a cheapshot comment about The Chad because you don't have a legitimate contribution to make.

If they don't move Norths will die. No supporters or money to survive in the 'big' AFL league, tough luck, move to your state league if you reckon it ain't so bad.
How did Port sell their soul? Why is Port's history worth less than the bonners?

Most of the posts I've seen on here pleading for support have come from supporters of other clubs. I don'tknow, maybe they remember a time when opposition supporters dipped their hand into their pockets for their own clubs. Maybe they can appreciate that without the support of opposition supporters like Norths, that they might not even have a club to be discussing on BF.
What has staggered me in the last week, is the pure volume of people that seem to be enjoying this. I wonder what these people are like in real life, I wonder if they would have the courage to say in a packed pub pre-game what they are prepared to say in front of the safety of their computer screens.
So many times this week I've been tempted to unload on people, and say something hurtful in response to something hurtful I've read about the footy club that I love. So much so that I've had a look at the FAQ's to see just what I had to do to avoid being banned. So while I don't condone people having a go at other clubs right now, it certainly is understandable.

Moomba, fair call.
Myself, I just want to see the competition move forward and expand to its full potential. In all honesty I would love to see the Kangaroos stay as they are presently in Melbourne and just add more teams . . but in reality IMO it is not possible to have 10 Vic teams viable.
I just get a little angry about you guys start claiming that interstaters have no tradition and we don't understand when we had to give our equally long standing teams up to create a national league, the AFL.
It's a shite state of affairs and it really sucks, but it is the way it is, football exists outside of Victoria.

To be honest I don't have a problem with anyone who thinks that way, and says so. I will happily have a debate on whether a move, any move is necessarily a good thing and I certainly see a move to the Gold Coast as making the competition worse, not better.
I just get a little angry about you guys start claiming that interstaters have no tradition and we don't understand when we had to give our equally long standing teams up to create a national league, the AFL.
Again, it's probably a debate better left for another day, but you can still go and see your local club play each week, and train, and go to all the functions. North supporters won't get that opportunity. And I have to say that the longer this week has gone on the more I feel that I would prefer to see us drop out all together and reform in the VFL. Part of it is the absolute mess that would leave the AFL in having to go through with their pledge to create a new team from scratch in an area that won't be able to sustain a team for decades, if ever. But my beef isn't with the other clubs who would suffer for it, so I look to other examples.
I've always supported Man City when they dropped down division, and got as much joy out of watching them in the third division as I do watching them now. There is something wrong with a sport though when relegation is determined, not on success and performances, but on the p&l. And more than anything I'd like to see us given a fair goto succeed in the AFL, not dragged down by the decision makers at club and league level to the extent that we are reliant on handouts. Lets look at the draw, les have our board tell the supporters what is needed to survive. To date we are all being kept in the dark, it's no wonder people walk away.
It's a shite state of affairs and it really sucks, but it is the way it is, football exists outside of Victoria.
I grew up outside of Victoria, and was in Adelaide when the VFL was expanding. I am well aware of that. ;)

Yeah, coz then when you criticise him, he's a mile away & can't talk back, plus as a bonus you've got his shoes!
Anyway, to get back to the topic, I am one of those pleading to the footy public for short term help by buying a membership. I've done my best to stay civil throughout, but the passion does well up sometimes.
