Why don't you both just merge? Would be a great fit.
- Both working class supporter bases
- Both neighbouring suburbs
- Neither want to move to the Gold Coast or Western Sydney
- Both would be seen as equal partners
- No more selling games interstate - 11 home games in Melbourne
- No more hand outs from the AFL every year
- Increased exposure on FTA
- Play in some big games at the MCG
- 35000+ members
- A pretty handy team as well
- Probably even run at a profit

Discussed at length on North Melbourne and Bulldog boards already.
Obviously the least preferred option, besides relocation. No chance of this happening at the moment, but if North decide to stay it in Melbourne and the AFL grants Southport a license in 2010, could become a real possibility.
God, I hope not.

Thanks for the class analysis, Karl Marx. Seeing you've been on the receiving end of some AFL generosity because of past mismanagement I don't think it's really appropriate to patronise Bulldogs and North supporters like that. But gee thanks for thinking of us!

North Western RooDogs
call me a fool but combining the two teams' fanbases probably still isn't enough
but it'd be enough for another 15 years and The Chad thinks the AFL wouldn't let it happen anyway

I agree but only as a last resort. That way the AFL gets thier toy and no one has to go interstate.

I would never ever support a merged entity, I will support North wherever they are - but a mongrel bitser no chance.

They can be merged, but will still have no money

Do you think merging the Kangaroos with the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs would work?
They both wear blue and white and it would mean another team in Sydney, but I doubt the AFL is ready for some of the crowd behavior associated with a minority of the Bulldog supporters.
If you happen to be referring to the Footscray Football Club, then thanks but no thanks. The VFL tried that on once already and it was a complete failure.
Considering that in 1989 we were on death's door and the league couldn't get it across the line, how much chance is there now when we have record membership levels and are more financially secure now than at any time in our history?

Not gonna happen, dogs are in the best position financially they have ever been in, debt is quickly disappearing (before this year it was only $800,000) and more of which would have been paid off this year.

No I was actually talking about merging the Australian national rugby league team and the British Bulldogs from the WWF. The new team will play out of Amsterdam where there are plenty of pills on hand to pop.

Why would anyone want to merge with the Bulldogs?
Even Fitzroy ran away from the chance in 89, and decided to fold instead merging with the Dogs

Is Pratt going to have enough money left to pay Carltons debts after he pays his fine? Gold Coast Blues has a nice ring to it.

Our near 40k members next year and impending sponsorship deals will cover the debt nicely. :)
And while we're on the topic of names, I've always liked the idea of the West Sydney Bulldogs.

So you don't need the AFL handouts than? Also how many of those members will re-sign after Judd does his groin again and you guys finish 15th?

Hmmmm...seeing as we shattered our record membership in 07 despite languishing down the bottom for the previous 5 years, I'd guess the vast majority.
And we might have needed handouts - but won't any longer. Please do not compare Carlton's position to that of teams of the North Melbourne and the soon to be West Sydney - unlike those clubs, we have a supporter/membership base and corporate support that will not only ensure we survive, but thrive in Melbourne.

Geez, it didn't take too long for that old Carlton arrogance to reappear, did it. Keep on thriving - you're doing just great!

Than why did you need handouts at all? Surely that record number of memberships would've paid your debts, just as you say it will next year.
we have a supporter/membership base
Broke the record again this year
and corporate support that will not only ensure we survive, but thrive in Melbourne.
I believe our major sponser is the largest leasing company in Australia. Also our President/Person who pays all our debts wasn't just fined $36 million for price fixing.

good point - the only club that can make a positive out of losing 11 games in a row. May all your draft picks be Luke Livingstons. (yes, I know, not that the Bulldogs can talk)

Not really.
Look at the post I put up in your Melbourne Kangaroos thread.
Melbourne are doing fine now.
Just cause you hate Melbourne doesn't mean they are doing so bad.
Are no longer receiving handouts next year. There debt is clear and they had a record membership despite a bad year.
