View Full Version : Why not North Melbourne/Tasmanian team?

Rather than heading North where there are apparently not many supporters would it be feasible for North Melbourne to semi-relocate to Tasmania? half home games in Tas, half in Melbourne. I'm sure the Tas Government would jump at the chance to waste money on this club (see Hawthorn-Tas) and could basically take the financial cost of the club. Tasmania is already pretty football loving, rah rah rah but not big enough to support a standalone club so if it was a North/Tas team it might work, Aurora is better than Carrara. There would be issues of where they are based, could probably remain at Arden St. and be tasmania by name /finances only (likely).


Haven't put alot of thought into it but it's a way North could survive and stay exactly as they are.

Why? Because last time I checked, the Gold Coast wasn't on the island of Tasmania.

Because this move (if it happens) is about the AFL wanting a team on the Gold Coast.

I meant as more of a survival of the kangaroos if they decide they don't want to go to the goldcoast

Apparently you missed the part about the GC being in QLD and not TAS. If the AFL wanted them in TAS, they would have offered that up as an option. :rolleyes:

Yes, but they have the right to reject the AFL's proposal, and there isn't anything stopping them from selling their name to tasmania... the same as staying in melbourne except with Tasmanian government funds

So for all intents and purposes this is not a move, it is more of selling of home games to Tasmania and for the name to be changed to North Melbourne-Tasmania Kangaroos whilst not being tasmanian at all.
