Courier Mail 22 June 2002-page 41:-

' Veteran Lion Alastair Lynch, who still has one more season to run on his contract, said he may even contemplate retiring sooner if Carey arrived. He said he would reserve his retirement decision until the end of the season but would be prepared to stand aside if it was for the betterment of the team'

'Brisbane Coach Leigh Matthews refused to comment on whether he wanted Carey next season'

There was a picture of Wayne and his wife on front page of the Brisbane Courier Mail on Wednesday informing us that 'they have reconciled'. The front page!?

Since when has the people of Brisbane been interested in Wayne Carey? Most of the people of Brisbane wouldn't even know who he is.

Has the seed been planted?

Ehehee.. that'd be nice for u wouldnt it..

Me thinks Carey shall go to brisbane..

Darren Bradshaw and Martin Pike(I want Pikey back at Arden St:mad::(:p) would be nice.. could do with Pikey coming back, and Darren Bradshaw is on ur rookie list, so wont get much of a chance with u, and he is kicking bags most weeks in the AFLQ according to his profile.. I would love to see him on the Roos list, playing on a flank, or even at FF..:D Kicking bags for us:D

Go Roos

Well, I heard Lynch talking on the "Coodabeens" this morning, and from what he said, it sounds as though the article is taking his comments somewhat out of context.

Lynch mentioned that he would be reviewing his future at the end of the season (as he did at the end of last season). So, basically, if Lynch is capable of playing on next season, and likewise, if the club needs him, then he would most likely continue.

He also said, that the club needs to pick the "best" players that they have available at any particular point in time, and that IF Carey by chance happened to be on the list and amongst the best, then he would need to be selected. However, Lynch intimated that this applied to ANY player who is, or might be on the Lions list come that point in time.

After hearing Lynch's this morning, the article above tends to take Lynch' comments out of context.

God almighty give the Brisbane public a bit more credit than that. I would say 90% of Rugby League followers know who Wayne Carey is.

I'll bet all of the Melbourne people here know who Alfie Langer is.

Wasn't meant as a 'go' at the public of Brisbane, it was a fact that the majority of Brisbane people 'other than Aussie Rules supporters' couldn't care less about AFL.

A perfect example was the Courier Mail's "Legends of Sport" booklet......they didn't even deem it important enough to have a picture of the boys holding the Premiership Cup in it.

Then we get a picture of Wayne Carey on the front page with his wife......just makes you think...why?

You can't have Darren... the ONLY reason he isn't on our list is because of the salary cap. He will be a lion!! please please please

That may be true, but they still know why Wayne Carey is.

Although allot of people are 'sports fans' rather than League fans and they actually show an interest in AFL.

Actually, I was amazed, watching the Brisbane vs. Adelaide game one of my league loving friends actually sat down and took an interest in the game:)

He isn't exactly up against quality opponents!

Still, I don't want to lose Darren. I think the brothers could work well together and I hope we keep them both.

Lets hope we don't get Carey because one of them will go as we won't have the salary cap room and we already have 5 big men capable of playing up forward.

Did anyone see the sign at the game last night that said
'Lions......NO CAREY'.

I think that message was pretty clear.

My two cents worth.........I do not want to see him at our Club.
