A left footer from Barham-Koondrook via Bendigo under 18s Guerra established himself as a solid defender and occasional midfielder in 2001 as Port had a fine year. Hard at the ball, and determined in conests, he had a traditional football upbringing as he was playing against men when he was 14. Even in the under age level, Guerra showed a willingness to use his body as a battering ram.
He was a handy and solid player for Port for most of 2002, but his form tapered and he lost his place for the finals. He had a far from satisfying 2003, spending plenty of time on the bench. He sought fresh fields and was traded to St Kilda.
After an auspicious start to his career at the Saints, his form again fell away and found himself at Hawthorn for the 2006 season, where he still plays.
