Ricky Ponting believes Sri Lanka are scared of Australia and aims to reopen old wounds from the outset on a juiced-up Gabba on Thursday.
Ponting started the mind games early on Wednesday by renewing claims from his recently-released Captain's Diary that Sri Lanka "feared us" before the World Cup final in the Caribbean in May.

Has Ponting ever been wrong though (apart from the 2005 Ashes obviously)? He does it ahead of pretty much any series against a team that he considers to be decent enough to be worthy of taunting. The Lankans should feel honoured.
And its true,the Lankans do fear us. Along with the Poms, Saffies, Indians, Kiwis and any other nation that plays the game.

:rolleyes:silly comments my foot , the truth is the truth . the truth is australia is the best team in the world and it is natural for the lesser likes to fear us . but i give them some credit, they fear us less than the indians
I think "fear" is the wrong word, they may lack belief against us but they are not scared.
When you are the underdog it can inspire a team, but spirits can drop away really quickly if the other team gets on top. Shows the underdog has more false bravado than a belief they can win.
With the exception of Murali they looked over-awed yesterday.

Ponting can afford to make statements such as these because the rest of the world seems so average at cricket these days. You could line up most test teams and most other would barely have one or two who could get a game for Australia. No wonder it's so one-sided. I wish the rest of the world would actually give a damn about cricket, or in the case of those who do such as India, start producing some players. I know that NZ and SA are rugby mad and very few give a toss about cricket which might explain why they are so poor. England basically only cares about soccer, West Indies are all American sports but at least the Asian countries follow it to a large degree.
