I found this interesting article on Fox Sports, but a few parts of it really had be confused.

Again, Lee was very good, but, with other members of the attack not always pulling their weight at the same time, Australia’s fifth bowling option suddenly became something of an issue.

So, in a nutshell, when a few of our top 4 strike bowlers struggled, there was more pressure on the 5th bowling option. Am i missing something or would that be the case for most nations?

And this...

Whether the depth in Australia’s bowling is as strong as in its batting will be revealed when Lee or Clark, or both, have off days.

So, to prove ourselves, we have to dominate when our two best bowlers have a bad day? I'm sorry but that's BS in my opinion. If those two have an off day at the same time, then we'll probably struggle, it's as simple as that.

Will the cricketing world be clutching at straws forever?

If Pidge and Warne had off days we would have struggled too.

No doubt we are a lesser side without them but by a substantial amount? I don't think so but we will have to wait until we come up against some real opposition to really give that a test.

Conversely, one could say that whilst our bowling potency has decreased, our batting potency has increased as we no longer have the aging and declining Langer and Marto and have replaced them with quality younger blokes
