Oasis, the cream of Manchester (Thought that was Boddies)? Or are they just the best tribute band the World has ever known. A souped up version of The Knack?

Neither, but closer to greatness. Some awesome Brit pop-rock goin' on there, and have survived for a long time now. Probably the leaders in their particular genre field.

I thought they were the ducks nuts when I first heard Definitely Maybe on the day it was released (in Oz) at a mates house... went out and bought it the next day (got a T-shirt with the CD as well which was a bonus).

Gave it an almighty flogging!...and the power in the walls of sound created by the guitars was quite awesome.
But by the time of that separately released single "Im Free" they were starting to sound too much like a rip off... supposed subliminal references and influences were too blatent and more fraudulent than anything.

I was going right off them just as they were really gaining momentum and everybody was talking about them. The final straw was hearing the opening riff to "Whats the Story" which is just the Day Tripper riff at a different speed with distortion. By the release of that LP I was so off them it was unbelievable.

I didnt stop liking them because they were now mega popular and I was already over them before i knew that their aniti-social antics were actually the norm. It was just that, if i wanted to listen to something that sounded like the Beatles, I could just put on a Beatles record.

Setting Sun is Noel's best work and thats because he provided the vocals only. Married with Children, Shakermaker and a few others off the debut are still the songs I like best... but it would take some restraint to stop me sinking the boot into a stereo that is playing Sally Can Wait.

Great band, saw them live at Rod Laver/tennis centre Noel is great kept the crowd entertained with his wonderful acoustic set. Cast no shadow is my favourite Oasis song closely followed Don't go away, would like them to tour again (I hear late this year Livid) Liam and his antics are legendary .I look forward to their next album should be good I hope.

Regardles of whether you loke them or not, or whether you think they are a "rip-off" band, they still churn out pretty bloody good pop-rock songs!

I reckon the best thing to come from Oasis for some time was Noel Gallagher's revalation that the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club was his new favourite band, which is cool cause they rawk and are one of my faves too!!

Noel also always loves to talk up Australia's own You am I. Gotta love the man for his great taste alone

I actually think that Noel does have some talent, wasted, nontheless. Anyone under 35 wouldn't realise how dull they really are.

Blur, another Brit Pap band were always the more original.

Indie music really has sunk over the past 10-15 years.

Written for, or about "The Verve's" Richard Ashcroft.

I don't mind Oasis for some light listening, but I wouldn't personally regard them as musical genius, as much as they are just good songwriters and musicians.

Noels talent has been wasted by being in one of the worlds best, and most succesful bands?????????

And how does age make your taste more refined than us mere young people????

Love 'em, love 'em, one of my favourite bands - "What's The Story (Morning Glory)?" arguably the album of the 90's [tough competition from Nirvana's "Nevermind"] and "Be Here Now" -highly underrated.

As an objective person, I can honestly say "Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants" blew goats but their new song is back to the old stadium rock style they do best.

I highly recommend "The Masterplan" to fans if they haven't heard it yet.

Oasis Rock!

Definitely Maybe and Whats the Story are pretty much the two best albums of the 90's. Be Here Now is a grossly underated album and there Masterplan album is a masterpiece. SOTSOG wasnt there best work but it was in all fairness there first album sober...or so i heard.

You all have your opinion...but to me Oasis are the best band of the last 10 years and who cares if they sound a lot like the Beatles, for anyone who doesnt know...thats actually a good thing because the last time i checked, The Beatles were the greatest band of all time!

Oasis? Cream of Manchester? They're not fit to drink the beer dregs of the Buzzcocks, Joy Division/New Order, The Fall, or The Smiths.

Classic. :D

Love Definitely Maybe & Masterplan.WTSMG was brilliantly timed.
The rest, patchy at best.

Thought they were crap when they toured here, hard to believe anyone could have enjoyed that show, they seemed completely disinterested, support act was better.

Must say that they sound better in the UK for some reason,I guess the sound just fits but then again, who doesn't???

Nothing short of a miracle that they haven't killed each other.

The jury's out as far as I'm concerned.Hope they prove me wrong.

No miracle at all. The fights only seem to happen whenver they've got a single or album to promote. It's all marketing hype to get their names in the papers - nothing more, nothing less.

Not all the time. They're always beating the **** out of each other. Even when there is no album being released.

Yep, read "Brothers" - the book written by their brother Paul.

You can see where they get it from, their Dad was a friggin' nutter.

Or you can read "Don't Look Back In Anger" by Richard Kurt to find out what was true and what wasn't.

Oasis don't mind suing (remember when they took action to close down all those Oasis fan websites?), they haven't sued Kurt for anything that he's said in his book.

Yeah, I've read "Don't Look Back In Anger", and there is another one that is very ordinary, I think written by someone who used to be in The Rain with Noel and is bitter.

"And all the lights that lead the way are blinding, and all the roads that lead the way are winding."

Oasis are good. Not great, not crap. Can produce very good songs (like Wonderwall!) but nothing is as good as sliced bread.

Flash in the pan. It's over boys, hope you enjoyed your 15 minutes.

I read an article that mentioned Noel slagging off at Kylie because of her name - Kylie. One of the great thinkers of our time is Mr. Gallagher. ;)

Still waiting for all the singles DVD's to come in from the UK. :D

I think he was reffering to the remix. The original is heaps better, it's actually on the single of the remix (track 4).

And Jod, 'Heathen Chemistry' is this weeks feature album on Triple J and Thursday 10pm there is the Oasis J files. Enjoy. :D

Overated Brit pap sums them up quite well. Couple of good early albums and then utter waffle after that. You've had your day in the sun fellas, time to quit whilst you still have a positive bank balance !!
