A small Dick Pratt story too at the bottom of the article. I have posted it separately.

Who are these girls, forgive my ignorance, but I don't think there from old blighty.

Some pics ?

Anyway, I have a question for all you officianados.....well a proposition anyway.

We are looking at ending up with lots of rucks around the 200cm mark , or there abouts, and it appears the trend is to for "monsters" as the article mentions, now here is the theory:

Would it be possible to maintain 4 highly agile players who can slot in all over the ground and actually play genuine key positions not just capably but genuinely, who can all ruck within their area and simply wear down the oppositions dedicated rucks.

Obviously there are going to be pros and cons on this, however there might be something in this. We are really building a fleet of BIG, players, with Kreuzer coming on this only adds to it. Your thoughts....

Megan Gale = Kruezer

Jen Hawkins = Cotchin

so that means we're getting the Kruezolator.

Aisake and Setanta practically count as midfielders tbh. They're faster than some of the smaller guys at the club. So i see no reason why they, Hampson and Kreuzer cannot all be in the same side.

Would Carlton pull a surprise on draft day? ;)

Wouldn't be that much of a surprise really. Cotchin is a very talented footballer. Not much in it at all.

I think Cotchin would make Fev a better player. He delivers the ball so well to the leading forward. I also think Kreuzer might take away a little from the value of Hampson. You can only have one ruckman at a time. I'd like to see Hampson (eventually) take the ruck for 3/4 of the game and have fill ins/back ups take the other 1/4.

I know plenty think that it is a fine line and drafting for need = drafting Kreuzer. I don't. I think it IS a fine line, I like Cotchin more, AND I think drafting for need = drafting Cotchin.

We just don't have a HFF who can go on ball. And YES a Kreuzer/Hampson combination is enticing but in reality Hampson (I think) will be a better tap ruckman than Kreuzer. Which will mean he will play there a lot more. Which means Kreuzer becomes kind of a back up ruck/resting forward. He will be terrific, but I just don't see that working as well as taking Cotchin works.

I'd rather let Hampson really take over the ruck, and get him a back up ruck (either from that we have now or draft one/trade for one later).

Yeah I can see why you might be changing your mind. I have too. BUT, I am back to where I started on this. I think Cotchin is better. I'd prefer to get the better player. Begin and end the debate there. But if the debate must go on, then...

I think footy is a game for midfielders and kpp. I also don't rate ruckmen as highly. Not even the best of them. Not because of their ability. More because the game simply wears them out. Injures them. Renders their productive years to be far shorter.

I really fear watching Kreuzer turn into yet another injury riddled ruckmen while I watch Cotch burn for the Tiges. This is a possibility I think people pass over too quickly. The game wears ruckmen out.

I don't think there would be a more beautiful sight in footy than seeing Cotchin pass it to Fev.

TOA.

As if its a competition between Hawkins and Gale.

Hawkins by the length of the straight!

Harder question is Hawkins or Jessica Alba. Now thats a tough call.

Its been rumoured pretty strongly the Blues are very keen on Cotchin (see my PD ;) ) and your interest in Kreuzer has waivered since DC.

Although, if you rate them both about the same, you'd be smarter to go with Kreuzer IMO. You have a good midfield already, and you can get more midfielders to supplement that group quite easily. Alot harder to get quality ruckmen to partner Murphy, Gibbs etc in the future, especially if you climb up that ladder like you expect.

I can't agree more strongly with the last statement :). I think 20% of Cotch's ineffective kicks were because Bongo couldn't run to meet the pass in time.;) Fev would be on the end of 8 darts a game :thumbsu:

Yeh I agree there. I'll be spewing if he continues to get injured like Kosi, but I think he is very important in St.Kilda's structure, just like I think Kruzer would be in 3 years time if he can stay out on the park. The fact that his attitude stands out sways me a little more.

Cotchin would be a good player but anyone with half a brain would agree that drafting Kruzer is the way to go, espically when we lost Kennedy. I just hope he grows an extra 3cm.

For the past 3 years we have been drafting a midfielder with our first pick, and the best available talent. It's time we start drafting players that will fill our void around the ground, espically when people think Kruzer and Cotchin are even on talent.

hi guys
andrew embley has been seen at carlton footy club during the week.
the guy wants out and has picked carlton as his first choice, i think the blue baggers are doing a deal quitely between them and embley. will be interesting to see when it unfolds,.......if he does come over..!! then look out we are going to be the power house...the vision i see right now is unbelieveable, what we are going to do in the next few yrs,.....we are going for a kill, destroy any team that comes near us,....you can call me a dreamer or what ever,.......but i see that vision coming around the corner, and im sure alot of my carlton followers believe the same thing..............proud of my club and proud of been a blue.

Damn it I thought I had half a brain!!! :D Hampson fills our ruck void. We need a key forward YES, but the big guy will not fill that need IMO. My 4/9ths of a brain tells me we need a midfielder/HFF. Goal kicker. With polish. Skill. We need skill. We have added to it no doubt. But we still have plenty of blokes who can't hit a target and can't kick over a jam tin. One more bloke to get rid of one of those blokes would be great.

Of course, we don't see it as a surprise because we all know better.

But most of the footy world expect us to draft Kreuzer and know very little about Trent Cotchin (mainly due to the media).

Tbh either will be fantastic.

i believe that we should draft the best talent avalible and apparently that is Cotchin. Kruezer is a great player but got killed in the ruck in the U18s national comp. He will need a great ruck coach to develop him into a good ruckman. Hampson atm is a better ruckman than Kreuzer. IMO if we draf Cotchin he will have a greater impact in our team next year than Kruezer. He'll be terrific across HFF.

That would be because it is the winds who are doing the blowing, with the result being a gale.

The end result is still the same and that is all I care about. :)

Shaun Hampson
Setanta O'Hailpin
Aisake O'Hailpin
Cam Cloke

There's 4 athletic big men, and all 4 of them are capable of playing in other positions on the ground, other than in the ruck.

There are also some very mobile talls in the draft this year - Dawson Simpson, Dean Putt and Andrew Renton are the 3 that I have seen a bit of this year, and are impressive. Not in the Kreuzer class, but impressive nonetheless.
