Pretty stupid question, but I'm bored and it was something I was thinking about.

Why is cricket regarded as a summer sport? It can pretty much be played at any time of the year, but you would think it would be more comfortable to play cricket in winter?

I always liked playing games when it was cold, I hate fielding in the heat and its always easy to just throw on a jumper if its cold. :D

Also, batting in the heat sucks, wearing a helmet when its 40+ degrees?

i reckon its got something to do with rain mate, and how you dont play when it rains, which until the drought happened alot during winter

Same question - why is football (particularly soccer) played in the winter? Shorts and shirts in winter, long pants in summer (cricket) makes no sense

Yeah, there would be many more days lost to ran if played during Winter.

Because bears shit in the woods and Jack Newton swims in circles.

What a bizarre thread... is someone coming down off a massive weekend "Benny Bender"?

Yeah, there would be to many tests rained off and some games may only play 1 or 2 days. Would be a waste of time

Exactly. And while winters may be dryer but cooler in England they are very wet, and the game was invented here after all...
