Which player would you have picked if your club badly needs a key defender and has a glut of tall forwards?

Thorp v Everitt in 2007 (http://www.pro-stats.com.au/psw/web/compare_players?tid1=115&pid1=2007145&tid2=108&pid2=2007074)

Both players are young guns with skill, mobility and pace, yet I feel the Hawks will wish they picked a potential key defender when Franklin, Roughead, Thorp, Boyle, Morton and Dowler are forwards.

I thought about including Nathan Brown in the poll, but Everitt is bottom age and could end up taller than his current height. Everitt will shred teams with his poise, skill and run from half back/wing ala Matty Scarlett if Williams, Morris and Harris play on the KPP and the quick medium forwards in his first few years. Everitt reminds me of Waite who has the speed and size to play CHB, CHF and wing, but Andrejs has the poise, skill and footy smarts Waite would kill for.

A player like Everitt who is mobile enough to play on the wing and at both ends of the ground is more valuable than someone who can only play forward. The Hawks will be incredibly top heavy if Morton, Franklin, Dowler, Boyle and Thorp make it as forward. They definitely lack a midfielder or wingman with X factor and speed to take on the opposition and hurt them from the wing. Muston might be that player, but he has had two knee reconstructions and is another who might play forward at senior level. Even if Everitt doesn't end up playing in defense, I feel he will be the bolter from the 2006 draft who will end up rated a top ten pick and be every bit as good as Thorp in three years.

I think Everitt will be better than Ben Reid because his kicking is first class.

Your thoughts?

Thorp isnt exclusively a Forward, if i remember he got drafted to play CHB, hes just impressed soo much up forward for box hill hes probably just claimed the CHF spot for the future

Obviously you would say Everitt had the better 2007, but he had way more oppurtunity than Thorp, who had to deal with injuries. In the long run i'd say Thorp will be the better player. However it wouldn't suprise me if it worked the other way.

Incidently, that draft will go down as the greatest modern draft ever.:thumbsu:

Definitely Thorpe although I think he should play CHF with Roughead moved back as he just has to much talent as a forward to play defense.

Everitt isn't real KPD anyway. More of an attacking flanker.

Everitt. Thorp hasn't done anything.

Everitt. Thorp hasn't done anything.
A first year Kpp player with injuries not having an impact in the AFL
Stop the presses!

I like that theory.

Thorp.
He has the Brown/Carey/Brereton swagger and an abundance of self belief.

He was recruited as a sidekick, for want of a better word, for Franklin. It was beleived inside the club that the two of them would feed off each other and compliment each other with their skill and confidence.

Roughead or Thorp, one will be a future defender for Hawthorn. They need to do this becasue their defence is shakey, on of these 2 might have the potential to have a back 6 built around them.
