View Full Version : The year we had to have.
The inclusion of Cotchin to our list is worth celebrating by all reports. Add Ready to go players in Morton and McMahon and a young KPP defender (Rance)and our list looks like it has been given a real boost. Putt will take time.
A handy player in the PSD would top off an excellant off season, but the lack of uncontracted players looks more likely we will recruit another youngster who missed out in the ND.
Our Rookie list will be strenghtened also with the first pick there.
Also the players from Drafts gone by will be more developed. Tambling, Deliedio, Pattison, Polo, White( hopefully Meyer), JON, Hughes, Casserly, Connors, Edwards,King will all be another year older.
We have accumulated alot of young skilled players, some will make it some wont, but the more we keep drafting them the more will make it.
The future looks very good.
I hope we grab Collard to add some more spark up forward and in the middle.
Cotchin sounds like a beauty :)

Agreed...pre-2007 we had massive issues in the midfield and backlines, while our foward line looked our best assest.
But know we have improved in such ways:
- Now have Polak, McGuane, Thurstfield and Bowden who can all play in our best 22. Plus we have Moore as insurance and Rance developing
- We have some good clearance mids in Foley and Tuck + Coughlan coming back and Collins and Conners developing
- We have better skilled footballers. With the addition of McMohan and Cotchin plus the development of Deledio and Foleys skills.
- Brown-Pettifer-Richo-Deledio, four string attack looks very potent. Plus add Mitch Morton and the development of Riwoldt, Hughes, Pattison and Tambling, Edwards, etc.
I would say the big problems are still decision making, fitness, and probably rucks (depending on how Simmo is going)

I would say what we need is a genuine goal sneak. We have Brown, Pettifer and Deledio as small-medium fowards, however, with Krakouer gone were missing a the foward pocket who is always at the bottom of the packs. I can't see us developing any current listed players into this role as Edwards, Conners, Cotchin etc. have too much to offer up the field.
Hopefully we rookie list one

Sampi makes sense with the delisting of Kraker

Specialist forward pockets are almost a waste of a spot on the list. Far better to develop Tambling, Edwards, Morton etc into top notch midfielders who swap in the pocket, much like N Brown prior to his broken leg. The problem with specialist pockets like Krakuour, Sampi and co is that they are not quite good enough to be midfielders, which means they are also usually not quite good enough to be dangerous in the pocket. Sampi probably has the talent, but has never had the fitness. Blokes like Milne can provide nuisance value at times and get a few bags, but are a dead weight when they aren't kicking goals. Much better if the player can also go into the middle to cause some damage as well. I don't think Plough's gameplans have too much place for one position players, especially a forward pocket.

Spot on! The risk is too significant.

Yeah a lot of sense - not. He's just a fatter version of Krak.

Think he's any chance to be retained as a rookie MT?

Some would suggest 2008 is another year we have to finish bottom.
We would get picks 1, 2 and 18-ish plus Ben Cousins.
Daniel Rich is a freakin' superstar... but I'm not thinking about tanking unless we have 2 wins or less by mid-season (and Wallace must NOT be sacked).
Why can't Edwards be our FP crumber...He won't offer anything up the field until he is older and bigger, for now let him be our crumber.
Drafting someone to be a crumber is ridiculous.

Rich and fellow west aussie naitanu or whatever his name is, absolute freak and the blues recruiting manager has stated in the paper that if he was 2 days older and made the cutoff for the 07 draft he would have been number 1 this year.
Call me a wanker but richmond must have another sh.it year, take both those lads at 1 and 2 and then we are seriously looking like we have some decent class on our list and can move forward with a quality list

i agree totally with you
but the downfall from another bad year will be to much.
but then again who knows we might do a carlton and finish bottom years on end
as long as we beat Carlton collingwood and essendon i will be happy

honestly it'll be down to us, essendon and the blues next year anyway barring the miraculous.

We will be improvers next year. i think we will finish 10-14th. If we were to win about 8-9 games I would be pretty happy with the result as we would still get a top five pickk, and a 2 top 25 picks.
Yer lets lie down in our Centenary year!!!!!!! not going to happen. Top 8 you watch.

It doesnt really matter if we miss out on Natanui, there will be a lot of good players to chose from next year. Next Years draft will be alot more stronger then this years, so we will pick up a gun either way.
I am hoping we make the 8 next year and i think we can do it.
We have plenty of good kids coming through and they will all be much better then last year.
Dont forget we lost most of our games bar 3 or 4 under 5 goals or less. We were in positions in alot of our games to win but with inexperience we lost. But these kids will have another strong pre season and will push the teams all the way now.
Watch Tambling and Deledio dominate next year. I saw both the other day at training and have both bulked up even more in the upper body especially bling.

If Carlton get away with cheating, why can't we?
There's the devil in me that wants us to finish bottom so we can get that ruckman Carlton wanted in the first place from WA.
Wouldn't that piss em off.:D
2 can play this game!

Wanker!
:thumbsu::p i still stand by my comments, one more crap year and we'll have the makings of VERY VERY GOOD football team, once richo, simmonds, brown are gone we will need real class to cover that exodus, one more year will do it and we may even scrape together some success the following year before we lose some great players

09 will b the yr the tigers will strike, we still need to get rid of 5-6 players on our list. While with the rookie draft we should go for another ruckman like a bellchambers cause putt needs to develop and is going to be a kp foward according to miller. While patto although he was gallant in 07 as a ruck would be better suited as a kpp. The rest we should get another kp defender and forward then a inside mid.
