There was an article in today's HS on page 3. It shows a table of all ten victorian clubs and their pokies revenue. St.kilda is second last, with 83 machines raking in 7.6 million dollars.

Will this number change with the new base in Frankston? Collingwood has the most, with 298 machines and punters losing 27.56 million dollars. Kangaroos have the least.

I thought there was a pokies issue with Morrabbin, hence why the saints want to move. Should St.kilda insert more pokies for more revenue (or at least apply for approval) Discuss.

No Pokies are going in at Frankston, the current pokies are staying where they are. I'd prefer revenue streams that didnt include additional pokies.

They were the issue. the reason that the development fell through under RB was that the local authority would not allow an increase or a transfer, or something like that. FF were going to sort that out, I guess they did in their own way...

It seems unfair that the most powerful club has the most pokies, but money makes money hey?

I agree, pokies are a dark revenue source, but if they do not lose at ours, they will lose somewhere else.

Kingston Council wanted a reduction in machines, in consideration of moving to a more prominent position. The Saints quite rightly told them to get stuffed. I think there is a lease issue with maintaining the social club / machines at Moorabbin - the way the club has been treated by the council, I would be surprised if they don't relocate the social club to Frankston as soon as they are able to without exit penalties.

Im no fan of pokes BUT

we legally got our pokies, met our permit requierments etc.

the club wanted to move them, kingston said now.

there was actually going to be NO increase in the machines. I think the move was about 120 metres

the machines will now stay in moorabin and the saints will move to frankston.

GG kingston.

- can't we increase the number ownership/leasing pokies at different locations, as in, keep the moorabin ones + buy a pub down at frankston & whack them in there? (apologies for disrespect to franger residents)

Its actually very hard to acquire Gaming machines, there is all sorts of cap restrictions, laws etc. which make it virtually impossible to get them at some places. EGMs aren't something that can just be put in, or shifted or just moved from one venue to another.

Probably in the long run, the Moorabin machines will be lost, however now that the club will have some valuable assets from the move to frankston, it will allow us to get our foot in the door with other possibilites (i.e oub shares, social club) now that we have assets that could potentially be worth $3-4 Million +it will allow us to take on more debt for future gain.

there was some talk about Saints buying a venue with an existing license.

that would require an outlay of several million dollars.

not sure that running a pub is a 'core business'.

then again the SC merged with the main business and is apparently running successfully so why not?

it begs the question are we in the football business or the pub business.

as long as our on field is successful, we aren't breaking the law, we are being moderately responsible i can't see why not.

I totally agree it's a dark way of raising money. I for one, would never use pokies. I just simply have other interests than gambling. However, it does make money.

In rugby league, South Sydney have announced they will cease all pokies operations. They will lose several millions of dollars. The difference here, they have two very wealthy owners. Unfortunley, it's an importaint way of raising dollars in all codes of football.

Pokies seem to have becoming ever increasing popular in AFL revenue streams. You can't blame the clubs, as the cost of running a club has risen sharply. It's sucky the wealthy clubs have the most pokies, yet the clubs like Kangaroos and St.kilda have the least.

Thats a tax issue thAT Carlton got nailed by the ATO. It rulled if you have a seperate SC that provides monies to the FC as seperate entities that is a not a not for profit activity and the distribution is taxable

Hence the FC and SC has to be the same entity
